Some super football.... Was Vinnie the catalyst?

Mossy 7 Nice save to keep Jets out early.
Manny 6.5 Did well on the right and quietened Carney down on the left
Siggy 6.5 Good combination with Dura
Dura 7.5 Led team well, some strong work
Doyle 5.5 Did well at times, but Carney opened him up a few times too
Riera 6.5 Holding it together
A Rod 7 Some excellent link play and almost some killer passes
Roly 8 Assist, assist, assist
Burns 9 Irresistable at times
Mikey 6.5 Missed how many chances?!
Krishna 8 Danger on legs. What a goal.
Fenton 6 A bit nervy in defence but pushed up well
Lia 7.5 Was it our Vinnie who changed the game, or pure coincidence? Played well whatever
Kenny 5.5 Kept the energy up

Ernie 9 Love the all out attack philosophy, good subs

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

LOL. 4's maybe. We were plain awful for the first hour. Distressingly so. Then Vinnie came on, and Roly went forward to be alongside Wee Mac and BOOMSHANKA it all changed.

Which is extremely puzzling because Rodriguez had been our best player on the park before that.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

I thought we were excellent all game, but that we looked weak at the back when they came at us until Ernie tweaked things at halftime.

Yeah it was amazing how quick they could counter us, but I guess with Fenton well forward and Durante and Sigmund a little slow it should be expected.

Roly was very close to 10/10 for me. I would give him 9.5.

I half agree with BWTCF, first 20 we looked good, then between 20th minute till Lia sub we where a bit average, then we were awesome. I think we maybe a bit lucky we were playing a shark house team otherwise we could have been punished worse. We need to play like we did at the end more consistently and finish more of these half chances as other games those WeeMac misses could have come back to haunt us.

I do think overall though, the guys played well and now have a good belief that they can win it even when down or not playing at 100% and Ernies substitutions look like they were a master stroke made at the right time.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.

Ernie is the king of substitutions.

Always very bold and usually spot on.

No way were we awful at any point. Watch the game again. Saying we were 'plain awful' for the first hour when we created clear cut chances is fudgeing stupid.

We had a 20 minute period at the start of the 2nd half where we weren't creating anything, but played well otherwise.

Just watched the game, after following it while I was at work, overall we're playing some excellent stuff. A little patchy through the middle of the game but I'd put that down to the ebb and flow that usually occurs in most A-League matches. Could have nabbed a couple more goals, but then again with a little luck Newcastle could've too.

Good game, encouraging signs, and a great chance next week to put a bigger gap between the top half of the table and the also rans... I mean bottom half.

I agree, we weren't awful but it did seem like it was just going to be one of those days when the opposition managed to finish off at least one chance while we blew all ours. Credit has to be given to the Jets, especially Carney and Hoole in the first half, who exploited our somewhat lumbering defence. Once we equalized I had a good feeling we would go on and finish it, which is not a feeling I'm used to with the Nix!

My MoM would be Burns who was consistently dangerous from the word go and caused them all sorts of headaches. Although I guess you'd have to say that Roly had the most impact on the game since he had a hand in all three goals. Bloody brilliant to see Fenton back in the fold so soon too.

Is there an a-league team that doesnt have a somewhat lumbering defence? I've seen all teams get cut-up badly by fast counter attacks this season, I dont think the Nix are special in this regard.

yes, credit where it is due, Lia to the rescue.

When Lia came on the formation changed up. Just before he came on the pitch you can see him shouting, probably to Mikey and Roly, and using his hands to demonstrate the change in formation.

By the looks of it Vinny slotted in besides Albert which allowed Roly to push further forward which he did setting up all 3 of our goals.

Its actually quite amazing he had such an impact pushing up for just a few minutes. Easily our best player on the pitch that game.

Interesting to see ratings for Dura and Sigmund. Though Siggy was far better. Dura was loose on this marking leading to Griffith's two chances (crossbar, and the Moss save).

I find that most people don't pay attention to the CB's unless they make obvious defensive errors that lead to goals - you'll often see ratings in these kinds of threads very similar for both Dura and Siggy even if one played obviously better.

The one that hit the crossbar only came about because Siggy shanked a clearance IIRC so he's at least equally to blame with Dura on that one. Other than that though he was covering a lot of ground and making a lot of important tackles.

CB usually work as a unit, so it's common that they thrive or fall together...
