If, for example, England's Newcastle United came to Reebok for a playing strip deal, Reebok wouldn't insist on Newcastle getting rid of its black and white stripes.  Instead, they would welcome Newcastle with open arms and ask "how can we please you?".  It would be a significantly better looking A-League if clubs were able to compete against each other in designing their own playing strips, rather than having this dictated to them by the FFA and Reebok.

The difference here (and it's a huge one) is that Newcastle will sell 200,000 shirts a year, whereas even the Phoenix would sell maybe 2000, perhaps more in V1.  You can't make that comparison.

Look, we can whine about it all we like, but the FFA have a VERY tight deal with Reebok and it's a plastic league that is heavily regulated to ensure costs don't explode.  It's also part of why we don't have Yellow.  The Mariners have yellow and when you have eight teams, why bother with having a clash ?  Each team has it's own colour and identity to build.

Live with what we have, and love the strip we've got, at least we have one.

I actually really hate that Inter shirt. The players look like they're about to go on a Crusade, not go and play football.

Don't Seville or soembody wear a similar one?

I vaguely recall someone telling me that somebody on a footie forum somewhere was accusing Inter of being racist because of that strip and the Crusades connotations. Mind you, I think I was pretty drunk at the time so I might have imagined it!!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Off the top of my head I was thinking of Parma, just checked it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parma_F.C.

Here is Rossi playing for Parma last season

Yeah, they do. It all started with Parma, their kit from the 1960s was white shirts with the black cross on the front, and they brought it back a few years back, and obviously people at Inter and Sevilla liked it and decided to duplicate the design themselves.

I think calling the clubs racist because of it is going a bit too far, I just think it looks stupid. I just hope the 'historical' trend doesn't get a roll on, I shudder at the thought of Scottish teams wearing tartans and kilts or Scandinavians donning thier Viking helmets and leather skins. Or Bayern playing in lederhosen.

Yeah, but what a goal.  Made Hendry look like a complete muppet as I remember.

EG, it might pay to remember that there are quite a few Australians who visit here and will bring up 2006.

Of course, gloating about Socceroo wins is a banable offence, but they could still have a lash.

What if was a Scot who visited here and mentioned certain Socceroo wins? (He asked, desperately)

Like Jag, I too have nightmares about that one. I keep waking up in the middle of the night screaming 'keep your arms down Joe'...he never listens though...

For the record though, we didn't lose to Australia, it was 2-2 in the end, but not enough for us...

Or how about EURO 2000? I seem to remember another wonder-goal from that tournament by a certain Mr. Figo...
