Well they only played 83 minutes. So $13.80

HAHA that's gold.

There's an easy but slightly unfair rhyme there. Only slightly.

Callan Elliott did indeed look very good, good, high energy athlete with an eye for a good pass. Fenton and Fox had a solid game too. WU didn't really trouble the Nix too much and we should have won by more.

TAHW pulled up just before kick-off, not serious though, looks like just a muscle issue.

A great night, my 9 YO was absolutely thrilled by the approachability of the Nix players and coach. A really good marketing exercise by the club, more please.

Pretty sure the Miramar game was 80 minutes too

Any reports on the trialists? Quite keen to hear how Wallen went in particular. A real shame about TAHW but hopefully it's nothing serious and he gets another chance soon.

The only trialist that really stood out for me was Callan Elliott. Josh Wallen did look good in an understated way, sat quite deep with adequate distribution. Jack Henry Sinclair can play a lot better than he did, and although he's not really a trialist as such (but is probably "on trial" of sorts) Louis Fenton looked good, apart from having a penalty saved.

When you look at the players who got on the pitch only really Singh, Burns, Libby and Fox would be regulars. Ryan Lowry played a full game, as did Oli Sail. I guess Sail is our first choice keeper right now, he certainly did nothing to suggest he couldn't handle the role permanently.

Nix, Leyton Orient and Alloa Athletic supporting schmuck.

The good thing about Elliot is that he is young enough to play for the WeeNix if he was not required for first team duties. Surely that boosts his chances.

I may have missed it, but have pre-season fixtures been announced?

"we are working on our pre-season trip to Beijing in July and have a few other pre-season plans that are being looked at."

From the news article about Libby & Dura re-signing

"The team (Singapore u23) will be taking on Macau on Jun 27, as well as play a triangular tournament featuring Australian club sides Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix in Singapore on Aug 4." https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/sport/singapore-under-23s-asian-games-hopes-dashed-after-loss-to-10452866

Are we gonna have to pull out of this now since we have Bentleigh on the 7th August?

Pre-season so far as I can work out:

17th July = 'rapa
July = Beijing
4th Aug = Singapore u23/Glory
7th Aug = Bentleigh
19th Oct = A-League Starts

Tony P said on Twitter that the Glory travel to SW Asia after their FFA Cup game on the 7th August, so maybe the tournament vs the Singapore u23 team has been pushed back?

Still haven't seen any mention of when we are playing that game in Beijing this month tho.

I'm sure we can find a waiata or two.

I only ever suggested one chant in my life on here, it was a year or two ago, and I stand by it. Should we ever sign Hudson-Wihongi, then it surely has to be;

Poi-e, Hudson Te Atawhai

Poi-e, Hudson Te Atawhai

Poi-e, Hudson Te Atawhai

POI TAKU POI E!

I know it mish-mashes his name a wee bit, but it just rolls off the tongue... perhaps the Hudson part could be changed to something else, like "we've got", not sure. But there's gotta be something there...

Actually on further reflection, the "we've got" thing might be a lot better...

I know all Nix fans have been trained into being super-defensive, but we really have to try and get out of that mode imo; it's getting really old.

I don't log in often to here any more but just wanted to THIS! this because it's spot on. There's defending your club, then there's being blind to absolutely any criticism of players or the club when it's justified.

There is some good news. A guy I work with went to his first ever Phoenix game with his kid and told me last night that he'd definately take his son to another game with the Nix. Encouraging words.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

How about yourself? A good place for early retirement I believe.

I think Palmer would cause a lot of ground movement by himself.

Looks like there will be no updates about the closed doors game vs the Roar today.

Permalink Permalink

Brisbane have announced they will be updating the closed doors game with the Nix tonight

Permalink Permalink

Roar came out an hour a go saying there wouldn't be too.

"It’s important to note a couple of items about visiting teams.

"Firstly, when these Hyundai A-League clubs organise a pre-season match in our state, we are their guests. Therefore, these clubs choose the venue to host a match and direct terms on which a practice match will be played."

“Our club is designated as the visiting team for these fixtures and on most occasions, these clubs choose to hold the match behind closed doors.”

BRFC endeavours to have as many open pre-season games as possible, however we must respect those Hyundai A-League clubs who wish to play behind closed door especially as their guests.

“We’re often asked about streaming pre-season games live. For full transparency - Fox Sports hold all streaming rights throughout the entire season including pre-season. Where we can, our club will reproduce footage where we can throughout pre-season within the guidelines imposed upon us,” Pourre concluded.

Great! Back to losing again. I know 'Rudan out' is meant to be joke, still no buying into, so far it's all words.
