Dodd, what can you expect from him? Some things just dont change, Another season from him like last year??
I wouldn't mind it so much except he was laughing straight after it.
Still I'm happy with the way things went. That first half showed some good football and hopefully the excitement will spill over into a decent sized crowd come the BIG kick off. Just dont ever let Dodd take another penalty.
PS: Hearfield hit his penalty brilliantly.

Pretty damn harsh. Penalties are just a lottery - they are not a measure of a players skill. Does Smeltz suck because he skyed it? Is Bertos a great goal scorer because he slotted it well?
I thought Dodd had a very good game. Won pretty much all of the 50/50 challenges.
I'm one of the ones who dont give a sh*t about pre season so while I am a bit gutted because we lost in that way it is not the end of the world. A few good things came out of the game - Muscat was terrific, as was McKain. McKain is so comfortable on the ball that it settles the rest of the backline down when things get a bit nervy.
We were missing the link between midfield and the striker/s for most of the game until Daniel came on. Was our biggest problem and one that we have all predicted. Gao doesn't take control enough and tries to push passes when they shouldn't be pushed. Should be used as an impact player.

Muscat, McKain, Hearfield had very good games. I thought the first half was quite well structured with some patient build ups. Kwasnik will do well for us two. He and Smeltz looked like they needed to communicate more though. This season is going to be a most interesting one alright and I think the club will do themselves proud.

Good showing from the phoenix. Showed signs of lack of concentration towards the end there when Dodd lost the ball pretty carelessly, get the bad stuff out of the way during the pre-season as they say though!
Good showing overall, Melb did look pretty good when they strung a few swift passes together.
McKain is a hell of a defender.
Gotta sign Muscat if that was his chance to prove himself!
Kwasnik has potential, did some good things, maybe not his position.
Hope Gao doesn't get too many silly yellow cards in the season that may get him suspended etc.

I absolutely despise penalties. That's what a lifetime of following Chelsea, England and the Nix does to you!!
Melbourne looked distinctly underwhelmed to have won. It means nothing. Winning a cup on pens takes the shine off for me - whatever the history books show. We're clearly in much better shape than last year though and that's all that matters.

Great game, Gutted at the result. On the edge of my seat most formost it. But i get pissed at penalty shootouts for a final.
Can't blame Dodd either, as has been mentioned its like lottery.

The Phoenix will be a very difficult side to beat this season. Our defense is light years better than last year. We have recruited some top quality players.... I am really excited about this season.
I listened to this game in an internet cafe in France....it was so bloody exciting that I was shouting my self hoarse and the owners asked me to keep the noise down.....
It must have been great to have been there....the YF sounded supurb.....great work guys
