Not the coaches - the fourth official only thought they were using 4 subs so it was discussed.

Aleague sanctioned game - Very proper like.

Well that would be a shock with his history...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Pointless fuckin game. Injures players and players/coaches argue. Now we are one step behind. In Rotorua as well...Of all places...

This is shocking. I'm so shocked. Never saw this coming.

Yeah. Let's not play any pre-season games - too much chance of injuries before the season.

Hardly pointless. Real pity about Fenton. Hope he is not out for too long.

agree with the game having a point - but to lose fenton for 6 weeks during it is the worst possible scenario

Queenslander 3x a year.

I would imagine that our all white full back Leo, would have to be the next cab of the rank?

he's a striker - according to merrick - pity it appeared to be lochhead who injured fenton

From the video clip, it looks like Fenton tried to muscle Lochhead off the ball but fell awkwardly. Just one of those things, not sure why any one is trying to blame anyone.

Just got home, now some ramblings in the order they flash into my mind: Completely Fenton's own fault the injury, was a shocking and amateurish tackle that had him fall awkwardly, you could see straight away he'd dislocated his shoulder or similar. Didn't think he was going awfully well up to that point anyway. Rufer isn't afraid to throw it about for a young fella, I think he is Jonathan Gould's love child - looks very similar to Matt. Hamish Watson, geez he is a changed man, the loss of weight has made him a much better player. Carlos has a lovely touch but he is a bit chubby isn't he? I think he would struggle at a higher level because of his fitness. Siggy was close to man of the match for me, was also captain for the day. Leo had a good game I thought and on that display deserves to be a Phoenix starter. Brockie also looked sharp I thought. Lockhead also looked like he could still dot he job in the A League. Mathew Ridenton - sign him up right now, he was dynamite. Clapham, again played well, sign him too...... Durante looked composed. Both teams pretty even and the score was a true reflection of the game, bit boring though. I know there were 5 Nix players in the A team, but there has to be enough talent in NZ to field a 2nd A League team [with a few Aussies and the imports].

On the coach thing, it looked to be more than that. Started off with RH with Conger, then EM came over to the 2 of them at the NZ bench, lots of back patting between R & E then a little later on there was some banter between the both from their respective benches and it looked to be more than them agreeing to gang up on the 4th official - might be wrong tho..

Had fun at my first Phoenix game.  It was cool seeing the national team and club team all at the same time even if it was just a friendly.

pointless fucking post. Could have injured himself training at Newtown Park.

when merrick says in the post match interview that carlos isn't fit, is he referring to copping an injury and could be rehabilitating or simply downright unfit and has to inprove his stamina? bit of a worry if this is the case and we're only a few weeks out.

I believe it was a bit of confusion over how many subs were allowed to take the field.
Have a player ratings post coming up on Stuff later tonight for those interested, just my take on the encounter and the players performances.

Could well be right, NZA had made a few subs at that point and Ernie didn't start throwing his bench on until much later. If that was your write up that's on Stuff now, I agree with it wholeheartedly.

so would we get a point off Brisbane on the basis of that performance those who saw it?  Its a worry that of our Costa Rica stars one wasnt playing and the other played but might not be match fit...

I thought the game was a funny one. Very hard to tell how well we'll go against the Roar because we had players in both teams. Others that have seen other games and training would be in a better place to make a prediction I think. Cunningham wasn't even on the bench, did anyone see him at the game or at the coaching sessions yesterday? Not sure how fit Carlos normally is, he is pretty casual and I don't recall him losing puff during the game. He is very economical in his movement and if he's always been on the big side, he's probably worked out how to get the best out of himself in that condition. He would be brilliant if he was fitter and making lots of runs etc. As I said before, he has a lovely touch.

hopefully ernie can talk him around, I mean would you rather be a run of the mill midfielder or one of the leagues best fullbacks+ scoring goals.

At least we will be playing at home and not in Brisbane. Difference in temperature between Wellington at the moment is about 15 degrees.

Kenny has a minor injury. Expected to be 100% for the first game.

No and I know you're next move here but one game does not maketh a Bertos. I'd rather a Ridenton being developed than persevering with a past his best Bertos

We do need a bit of experience in the squad...

Right so I was not there and have read nothing other than this thread *qualifier*

The Fenton injury, for Ernie, is a problem. The way I read if, he has Fenton pegged as his starting RB but he now needs to find one that will do a job through injury, rehab, and then regaining fitness. Middle November.

So it you slot in Manny (let's flesh this out) you need a DM. The flip side is that you back sherminator from match day 1. Is he up to that? Bertos, if he wants to go against his word but the way I viewed it, was he had Fenton, sigmund, dura, Caira as his opening line up minus FIFA duties.

Is this a huge deal? Are the alternatives reasonable? Does this one injury expose us? I would like someone who has seen the team and has visuals to tell me. ATM I have not got an opinion

Grumpy old bastard alert
