Kurto up front by himself is a bold move.

      Dura Taylor Doyle

Fenton                       Cacace

   Kopa Mandi
         Singh

 Krishna Williams

Lots of question marks here. Doyle/Fox, Mandi/Rufer (considering Mandi's fitness), Williams/Burns. Kopa has also been injured, and unsure how bad that has been. I wonder where/if Nichols fits in anywhere too. I'd be pissed if he's starting instead of Singh, who is the #1 reason I am excited for this season.

I think you pretty much nailed it with this line up. Like you said though fitness/injuries could dictate.

Has it been confirmed that Durante is going to captain the team for the opener (and indeed the season)?

I've noticed that they've been promoting Steven Taylor a lot during the pre-season (and why wouldn't you?), and he was the Nix rep at the season launch the other day.

Would they 'split' the captaincy and have Dura as 'club captain' and Steven as 'team captain'?

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/10...

"Rudan said last week he would not be implementing the traditional leadership team in his squad, saying he doesn't believe in them - every player has to be a leader in his squad."

Still need a captain though even if the persons only extra job is to call the coin toss.

That, but with Rufer for Kopa who hasn't really been playing for the last couple of weeks.

That has to be the most attacking Phoenix team ever.

Buses for trains on match day on the Kapiti line from Porirua to Wellington apparently. Do the club even check in with Metlink?

Take it to the I Need My Ride Bitch thread, this is for pre-game hype ;)

Seriously, though, I don't think they do. Or Metlink don't think we get the crowds.

Perils of holding games on public holiday weekends, I guess.

but in real seriousness, how do you expect the club to control what the FFA do re scheduling - "Hey, FFA its the nix here, a company in Wellington is not running trains on this coming Sunday, can you please move our game to Friday?" You can imagine the "go get fudgeed" response.

It's not a dig at the FFA. Bus replacements for trains seem to occur rather often on Phoenix matchdays, though.

At least the buses don't go on strike until Tuesday.

While i agree think work on the train tracks over labor weekend is something that has happened before. Not the first time by along shot that we have a game scheduled with no train service. Does seem at times that there dosnt look to be much thought into the scheduling of some games.

Pretty sure all 4 lines are buses that weekend, so I suspect it's not all maintenance.

Given there was maintenance on Kapiti for 8 or 9 weeks out of 12 from mid-April - mid-July, I'd have hoped they'd be done by now.

Well if it's signaling or something like that then it would take out all lines.

Hope we get 10k. That'd be a good effort, considering our last season. To be honest, even 8.5k isn't bad.

If it's that bad, why not just cancel the loan??

He is right, hearing the same things about Kopa and he is already down the pecking order behind Mandi and Rufer.

Rudan hasn't said in public he doesn't rate him. That would be a bad move. But...

- He said earlier in the pre-season 'we haven't seen the best of [Kopa] yet.'

- Subbed him off for Rufer vs Bentleigh.

- Last week said 'certain people are on notice; doesn't matter if you're a visa player or not, you have to perform.' If this was referring to a specific import player, it probably wasn't Taylor, Krishna, or Kurto.

That all said, I'd like to see him play some more.

This cracks me up from the official site player profiles section:

BIOGRAPHY

Wellington Phoenix signed Michal Kopczyński on a season long loan from current Polish Champions, Legia Warsaw in July 2018.

One of the most gifted and talented players to grace the Hyundai A-League, Kopczyński has the history to suggest that he will be something special that fans can really look forward to watching.

Well they are hardly going to say "Kopczyński is a shark signing and the Nix are wasting a visa spot signing him."

Fingers crossed we can cancel the loan in January, then, and Mandi turns out to be good enough to run the midfield on his own.

Had this been a Test match or even a Super 18, Would the maintenance still be going on?? NO. Yes, the scheduling might have been better, usually we cop our game at the same time as Bathurst and this year we avoided that, only for this crap?? Sometimes I wonder at the Council, and other Local bodies and Services like the railways. They say they like the Nix but then hurdles get put up. I wonder what ripoff prices the stadium trust are putting on the food and beverage places around the stadium this season. Prematch Subway or Maccas.

Back to the game, I am really racking my head around a cautious start or an all out assault. For the first season ever, i just can't figure or assume. I like Rudan, he has a I want to be Number one approach, not Number 6 will do.

all of the above are highly possible, trains and welly buses go on about how they support the nix but year on year they have maintenance and strikes and key points in the season - nothing the Nix can do, but maybe the council could be more helpful.

Eitherway, its a known thing, so if peeps want to get to the game they will, parking aint that bad in town, buses are usable and will get you there and home. I'm amped and cannot wait!

So we've got an import that the fans think is a load of shark, the coach is rumoured to think is a load of shark and he is on a loan deal, that can be cancelled.

I'm struggling to see what the hold up is here on sending him back....

Would be a wee bit harsh when he has uprooted his life to come to NZ - surely you'd at least give him a couple of months.
