No way! It wasn't the result we wanted but even when it looked like it wasn't going to be our day I still really enjoyed that game. We are playing such nice football now days.

I agree with you both,  we should won, and it was a poor crowd,  I also enjoyed the game and we are playing nice football

Ref also sharkhouse.  Roly and manny axed all game.  I was reminded just how easy it is to dislike Simon....

To be honest; was one of the most frustrating games I've watched. Happy we got the draw, though; so could've been more frustrating in the end I guess!

CCM definitely played the role of the ugly orcs pretty well.

And I even had a fatalistic feeling Matt Simon would grab a shock winner in the 93rd minute, so overall I'm not unhappy.

Il take a draw. not gonna moan and cry about it. happy with the point. look on the bright side of life..we didn't lose. don't under estimate any of the teams in this comp. the moment you do - u become an arrogant dick

We should be happy with the performance, if not the result. At some point in the season you are going to drop some points you should get.

Agree with that.  I thought that was the most fluent and fastest paced passing game we have played.  And the combinations were looking better, particularly how Rodriguez interacted with the rest of the midfield, which I think hasn't been quite gelling.  Deserved the win, but that's football.

Could still be in 4th at the close of tonight on GD.

Mistake by Moss, nice goal by Roy. Result feels a bit like a loss. Some really great football. Auckland are not interested in Phoenix, we should ignore them next season.

Now I know how Brisbane fans must feel when we used to steal points off them after being totally dominated for a whole game. If consistency (like championship winning Brisbane) is what we are after I think it was almost there, sometimes the goals don't flow but you can tell if the Nix keep playing like that, we won't have much trouble scoring in most games we play.

The good: We really can play attractive football, Rodriguez (getting better and better) and Roly (turns players with the same ease Ifill did).

The bad: Our finishing (yes we do need a striker to be a title contender) and our set pieces (we never look like scoring).

The ugly: Eden Park (cavernous hole).

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Meh.

As far as I could see, we were very good in the first half, but one-dimensional. We were bunging it down the left flank for Krishna to make the late cross every time, and they were ready for it. Most annoyingly, we should have scored at least twice but for a fine performance from Liam "Drunken Keeper" Reddy.

But I'll take 7 points from 3 games.

We had so many 1st half chances. Roy could have finished with 4 for the match.

Well I am very disappointed with all of those who posted that we were going to win by a big score.  YOU jinxed us.

Shame.

well I walked away with 15 to go hoping like another time that we would score when I wasnt in the room..just watched replay after dinner and am happy at the draw given the way it was going.  Vintage passing but also vintage not a striker until Roy finally got one.  Good goal as it needed vision(or was that hope) skill and timing.  Great assist wee mac.

We need a plan B...

Credit to CCM too. Although we managed to get through their defence many times they defended well, often got in last ditch tackles and didn't make the same kind of stupid mistakes that MC and the Jets did. Also much as I hate Matt Simon, if you are going to play that sort of game then he is just the sort of poaching striker you want: one defensive mistake, one chance, goal.

Was like watching the old Lawrie McKinna Mariners from years ago.

Could see a strong target man in the box being useful in that kind of situation. Otherwise annoyed.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

The Nix will still clearly be second highest in the goals for column after the end of this round. Sometimes, like today, they dont stick - but after 19 goals in 10 games, our first ever club hat-trick and only the second ever player to score in four consecutive games the continual moaning about our lack of a 'striker' is bemusing...

Yes we created chances, but at other times some of our passing and first touches were down right bloody disgraceful.Until we can get some consistency in this area we are just kidding ourselves.Think last weeks result was talked up to much and we are at the moment just unable to perform to the same standard on a regular basis.

Outside of the spanking of the Jets and City we are averaging a little more than a goal a game. We have blown 2 points today and have not picked up any points against the top 4 teams, in part,  because our conversion rate is typically low. In my opinion we will not be a genuine title contender without a striker - not only because of the improved conversion rate but also because the better teams will free less comfortable pushing numbers forward.

Sometimes i really do not understand what people see when they watch the game - as if anything other than a commanding win is the end of the fudgeing world. Our passing, possession and accuracy was well higher than last week against the Jets - you think we should be consistently poorer??

Meh, today we played like Adelaide played last night. A bump in the road, but with the added bonus of stealing the point that ADL missed out on.

More and more, the players are gelling too.

I could say the same thing, like you i to wonder what some people are watching.Great thing about this game is we all have a different perspective on things.End of the day that was the Mariners  our test will come against some of the bigger boys and im sorry im not as confident as some of you.But i hope like hell im proved wrong.

Disclaimer this position is from someone who is gutted that he lost a sharkload of his punting gains over the last 2 weeks on tonites game.LOL

How the hell did Mariners finish with 11 on the pitch

How the hell did we not kill the game in the first half

Why the hell were we playing in yet another different and piss poor strip, are we billboards for hire now? Embarrassing, home games at least are for yellow and black

Fever were in a fairly good voice tonight, shame that therewas no cover to kep it down and focussed.the big main stand was quiet as for most of it. A couple of chants but nothing else. Nice to catch up with everyone though. Roll on the 28th. I am glad we got a point but we really should have put it to bed  before 30 minutes. Now for a night of The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

who gives two sharks what the strip looks like, if commercially wearing that strip helped the nix's finance in some way then great.

Completely agreed. Burns has obviously done very well but I think he's more suited to a support striker.

Fair point. I do wonder how long the 'pass to Roy on the wing and hope he wins his 1on1' option will work. Really liked our goal though; terrific finish - made it look far easier than it actually was.

Is that what our attack is? I feel our attack right now is actually very balanced. We seem to have a good mixture of pace from the wings and then Bonevacia provides a good threat through the middle. I don't have any concerns about our attack at all. My biggest concern is that we are still conceding some soft goals although our overall defence has been adequate.

  • We all see the game different but everyone must see that we play the game too deep Rodriguez want to go deep and pick a pass from the defenders plays it to right back or plays a square pass to Riera  who then passes to Mcglinchey who is still in his own half of the park looks up nothing in front of him but 8 mariners players the midfield has to get more up the park to support the forwards ,Erine must see  by now that Mcglinchey is a number 10 plays in the hole creates chances for the front 2 links with the midfield higher up the pitch .remember last week when Rodrisguez goes of the ball started going forward more and the goals started coming ,even with a couple of minutes to go  today he is still going deep and playing the ball back or square ,but still  had enough chances to win the game .
