I think him, ball, McCowatt and uli will develop relation ships. Just needs game time. But there were glimpses of him and uli linking well. Just need to build an understanding.

Really enjoyed what I saw. Bit frustrated we couldn't convert those half chances. They were definitely there and the football were playing is vastly superior to last year.

I still get angry when I think about that Davila chance!

I am a bit concern about his speed though. Fitness is one thing, ability to move fast enough without pulling up with a hammy is another.

To be fair though, I had the same doubts about Ball early on as he was clearly out of practice and low on confidence, but has recovered nicely and seems to have finally got the hang of what Talay wants him to do.

Hooper looks pretty fast for a guy who's not match fit and is injury prone tbh

It could be that Talay does not want to risk an early overburn and is easing Hooper into match fitness.

By now he should start coming on for the second half. Another option is to make him play first half (if, as others have stated, he is fast enough) and then sub him off for Waine or McCowatt if they are not on the park by then as yet.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Just loving the attacking options that Talay is building and given where we have come from with only 7 player. You can't be anything but happy with what's developing.

Even when we should have won this, it's just satisfying to see how bad Victory was. They continue they form from last year. We on the other side played so well and with confidence. If we continue like that we will have a great season.

I thought the nix were unlucky not to win, considering how significantly they dominated Melbourne Victory. Devlin was outstanding and my MOM.  Payne and DeVere were excellent in handling Kruse. I usually love McCowatt, but I felt his decision making was very poor when he came on. Sydney will be the biggest challenge so far, last time I saw them they were against the Roar amd killed them. This will be a real test for the defences with Le Fondre , Barbarouses and Ninkovic all very capable

Really happy with how Payne is going. He looks really comfortable at the higher level.

There is something of Ben Sigmund about him.

Perhaps next season Payne will start there and Fenton might start as the Right Hand side midfielder he was when he first started.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

In all honesty, I'd be surprised if Fenton didn't retire at the end of the season. He's been through so much, all originating from the same problem area. It must mess with his head to some degree.

Of course, it goes without saying that I hope he proves me wrong. Had a great season last year
