Caira omitted. Carlos, Manny & Boyd return.

Oh and I wonder who gets the least experienced referee again ....

Nix under Shaun Evans, P3 W1 D0 L2

Hmm... my prediction is looking stronger by the minute. Just wondering whether he'll go for Brockie or Huysegems up front.

I wonder if this may be the last season we see Paul Ifill lace up his boots. Like Greenacre, he can choose to go out with his head held high if it is soon. The unsavoury debacle across the ditch concerning Lucas Neill or Harry Kewell makes me think of excellent players who chose to hang on for too long, despite their body not allowing them to play to their full potential anymore.
Iffy still has a lot to offer the team, probably from off the bench for a couple more seasons. Should get his NZ passport, so won't be an import but would have to take a pay cut.

Bloody typical, pay New Zealand workers less.

Ok well Ernie can't spin that as 'the young guy needs a break'. That a form thing for sure.
Personally, I thought Caira was shaky at his best. How is that Lochhead non-signing looking now?

Yeh especially if we need Manny in midfield because of injury issues. Lochie as a guest?

Especially all our football experts who said how terrible Lochy was, and actually think we'd be going better with him on the park at the moment...Having said that Caira has worked hard, and I appreciate his effort, but it's been a tough ask. He hasn't been able to get forward much.

think Hernandez should start from the bench...Huysegems at number 10, Hernandez on for him at the 55th minute...

Brockie had a great run and a better pass to set up Huysegems for the first goal last week. He made the goal.

Agreed. I said the same thing about Caira a week ago but this move looks even more so.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Strangest thing, I've been having the same thoughts about Dani Sanchez in another thread.

I am not as good at analysing individual stats as others on this forum, but my unscientific gut feeling is that Sanchez may have done well under Ernie. He was probably one that had problems fitting into the "direct football" mindset of Ricki. Paradoxically it is Ernie that cut him. I am not saying he was excellent, but was not terrible either - might have been an option to provide stability in the centre as an AM.

Where would you play Sanchez, he's just a worse Hernandez

Time for some bullsh*t hypothetical formations. How about this:

                      Moss

Leo     Sigmund    Durante   Manny

                   Lia     Reira

 Ifill            Huysegems         Hernandez

                       Brockie

Crazy I know, but Full backs have been a serious concern for us lately and it's time to try experience over youth.
Also Huysegems is just as good as Hernandez retaining possession and think of the wing creativity! Also Hernandez gets frustrated and starts to give the ball away a bit. Lacking pace on the wings but we have a front four who should be able to create and score (in theory) and to be honest I'm not sure Kenny's speed is ever going to actually eventuate.
Would probably rather have Manny in the middle... but Reira's coming along ok.

Or maybe start Fenton and bring Ifill on to face tired legs.

Probably in the role that Hicks and/or Riera eventually slotted in. Could be a useful cover for Hernandez if he gets injured. Runs well, does not foul much. However, I am, happy to see Hicks - a local player - on the field, if as suspected Hicks proves to be no worse than Sanchez.

Looks like Fenton is expected to stay as fullback-in-training.  Moving him upfront now may confuse the hell out the lad.

We need more than Lia & Reira in the midfield, so would expect Hicks to come in. Glory exposed them and the Roar are that much better, we struggle badly without the extra body in midfield.

                Moss

Fenton Siggy Dura Manny

          Lia Reira Hicks

              Waffles

        Brockie    Kenny

Roar have the best midfield in the league, by far. They will tear us to shreds if we don't pack ours out with as many players as we can.

Now up to $3.70 to beat the Roar.  Draw looks tidy at $3.50 as well.

Phoenix likely: Moss Fenton Sigmund Durante Muscat Riera Lia Hernandez Cunningham Brockie Huysegems #WELvBRI
I would throw Hicks into the midfield for Kenny or Waffles myself.

Perhaps Ernie could adopt the infamous "Ricki 1-9-1 formation?" or 1-4-5-1?

Really liked Steiny in that No. 10 role last week. Buzzed around the midfield and held onto the ball well. Hope to see him drop back a little and get on the ball vs. Brisbane.
