Congratulations on breaking the win drought, it was long overdue. Sad about Ifill, looks like the end of his playing days for a fine player. I really think Brockie needs to be benched. At least Stein threw himself into the game and fortunately his goal fell to his left foot. I'm still disappointed in Hernandez's wild shooting for all his nice touches.

The obvious answer to Ifill's absence and the Phoenix's need for another attacker is Clapham. He's on fire in the ASBP and would certainly put away some of the numerous chances the Phoenix are missing at the moment. And he's a local who won't require an import slot. Tade also scored a couple of beautiful goals in the cracking 4-4 game at Kiwitea Street.

Really been impressed by Reira last night, however 99% of his passes went backwards. would great to see him throw in a few turns and feints.

Not sure how carlos won the alex tobin points, he look disinterested and took poor options.

But we fuckin Won!!!! now lets bury the Heart on friday!

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Pathetic comment.  He was doing fine. How can you possibly say that injury wouldnt have happened if he has been on as sub??

Bockie for mine still looked a little disinterested, the touble we have now with Ifill injured is there is only Tyler as a logical striker option with Stein. Which means we have 3 front men who couldn't score in a brothel.

yes,  a bit of a concern!

I came out of a cast in ten weeks and was right to train with v light running/walking about 4-6 weeks later.  Man you feel like you are going to snap it again any time for a couple of weeks when you first come out of the cast
going well and with good treatment he could well be back inside 8 mnths
but have one go, then have the other go, is not uncommon, depending if it is general fatigue or one of them got a bad tweak some time
I went thru three casts, disintegrated the first two walking as much as possible on them, theory was that the cast held things together, but keeping some movement up maintained a degree of strength and helped healing.  Seemed to work.  Accupuncture seemed to help also - the Doctors were pretty amazed how quick I came right

Really annoyed about some of the negativity. FFS we just won our first game. It was a fun evening, lots of action, YF were in good voice and the crowd really got into it. Does anyone who thinks Sydney were shit actually take time to think that our play made them look shit. We closed them down in midfield and pressed them well. They couldn't get their game going. They were coming off 4 wins and we beat them. This is the A-league....there will ALWAYS be crap passes and poor shooting. Just celebrate and enjoy your team winning!!!!

How old were you....age makes a big difference? Ifill will be 35 next year....and he has had a long history of injuries. But lots of players have returned after doing an Achilles....Beckham for one.

At least he got morphine. I busted my achilles playing, went to Wellington hospital A & E at 4pm on a Saturday and got seen finally at 11pm. They eventually gave me some Panadol. Worst 7 hours of my life. I was only a teenager and played for years after, no problems.

Mega bummer for the Nix. We have lost our best player. Should see an injury replacement in the January transfer window. Can we get an import to replace an injured import?

Yep, we have disrupted Brisbane, Wanderers, Sydney, CCM.  The three player midfield is working for us, Riera is doing a great job, sitting deeper, 92% pass completion, who beeping cares if a few are lateral, and wider we have enough pace to handle most teams, apart from the odd occasion like Perth's Sidnei who cut up a still learning Louis.  Manny, Louis and help from Kenny generally has been enough.  And the front third are also pressing fairly high and pretty well, so the ball into the midfield is often one we can break up.

As someone else said, it is the very quick sides that cause us most problems.  And our own shooting.  Plus those forward players are still not instinctively anticipating each others play, though its improving slowly.

Very enjoyable evening at the Ring, a couple more goals would have been nice, we were playing Sydney short of two key players, but we'll take it.
Definitely better with Ifill on, but sorry fellas, even before the injury he was past his best and likely to take injuries.  But he will take some replacing.  To get up to sixth we still have things to fix, but it's still on and it will be interesting who we bring in to replace Ifill and how that changes the mix.

I was a bit older than Ifill is now when I did mine.
lols I drove to A+E.  First time I tried to hit the brake I hadn't really figured out what I'd done and went to use the ball of my foot as usual, a bit tentatively - so nothing happened as far as braking went, except lots of pain, foot just flapped.  Nearly went straight thru a red. One foot driving from then on.   Had a similar wait to you - got into A+E around 7pm and got discharged around 2am.  I think I must have a high pain tolerance 'cause I can't say it was too big a deal, though I did not sleep well the first couple of nights, but it was def a complete rupture.  Went down with the legendary "bang" and "what the f was that" and could barely move and you could see the gap between the two ends under the skin when they were checking me out.  But I hobbled off and drove to A+E.  You and Iffs must be pussy cats ;)
Too much info I am sure, but it was just a hopeful, he-might-possibly-do-better-than-8mnths post, though my guess is we are unlikely to see him back.

We are truly going to miss Ifill.

To be fair though, you would say that. You were one of them that was calling for him to start. He's an old man FFS. This type of thing was bound to happen.

The thing is that Ifill "passed his best" is still the best in our team.

He has started before and lasted 60 mins or so. Why wouldn't you start him as part of the strongest line up?

All academic now.

I don't want to argue about it anymore. The fact is, Ifill is probably gone for good. He won't play this season and I really don't see Ernie re-signing him next year. This is the last we have seen of Ifill i'm afraid. Thanks for the memories xoxo

You may be right on a couple of those points NUFC but Ifill deserves more respect than that, especially given that there is a very high chance his playing career is over. Show some class please.

This and 34 isnt old for the a league. it really isnt. i still think he has a season, maybe 2 in him.

What got me was the innocent way Ifill did it. No contact, not over exerting himself. He just turned to move and down he went. Really feel for the guy. I wish him a speedy recovery. Whether or not he is up to playing again, I do not know but a nice guy and a positive for the Phoenix as a club.

I do agree with the call that we need to get someone in as good or better and younger in January's transfer window. Esssential for the team overall.

Also a special mention to the fans that as soon as the stretcher came out, cheered him on. Excellent from the YF, realising it was  serious injury. We love you Ifill we do has never had a more important moment to be sung imho. Glad too that he heard it and acknowledged it in his twitter post. You're a legend Paul.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Don't get me wrong, he's my favourite nix player. I just don't think he will get signed on for another season. When I said he was an old man it wasn't an attack on him I'm just stating the facts of a pro footballer. He is one of the greatest a league players we have ever seen and I will miss him just like all of us here.

I wish nuf_nz would not be not starting jn the forum. Normally I ignore trolls, comments are a mostly annoying and I avoid not to read them, but his remarks about Ifill are very cynical.
He's a fit, well trained player and those thing can sadly happen.
I hope we see him playing for us again and wish him all the best and a good recovery.

I don't even....... What did I say that was so cynical ?????  He's old ? You're getting your knickers in a twist over that ? He's my favourite player I wouldn't bag him. I've even met him on a plane ride from Melbourne to Wellington. Shook his hand, had a chat and he's a really nice guy. Please don't make judgments about me you don't even know me.
Rant over.

Lucky match wear combo found. Might have to ditch the hat for the rest of the games this season.

Agree with this too. I have never been a huge fan of his but have to admit he's been consistently good over the last few games. Really gets stuck in and breaks up a lot of the opposition attacks, and is linking up well with the guys in front of him too. Haven't seen many crazy wild passes from him either.

Still not really getting the Lia love-in to be honest.  I think he's one of the weak links and Riera is carrying him!

No way a weak link, when you compare his work to

a) inability to score from many chances
b) inexperienced fullbacks when both Caira and Louis were on the flanks

Interesting that some of you are talking about Riera in such positive terms. Even a suggestion he's carrying Lia in midfield. Well take a look at another Spaniard at ACFC (crikey, don't tell JV) - namely Christobal Marquez. I mean some of his touches during the cracking 4-4 draw with HBU on Sunday were sublime. One chip over the Hawkes Bay defence into the path of the onrushing Tade which was beautifully dispatched was absolutely inch perfect. He also scored from a very acute angle which most players would have given up on. I think Marquez is certainly good A League standard as an attacking midfielder. With Ifill sadly out of the picture for some time, does this free up an import slot in January?

Well strikers are a fickle breed, it amazes me how they can't score in a brothel when in a drought but 1 goal or 1 won can spark them back into form. Im not sure that this will be the case with our lads but for me that is all that is stopping us from being a title contending team, if we had finished half our chances to date we would have won most of our games and the odd defensive howler wouldn't have cost us points.

Yes I was. If  a player aint good enough to start then they shouldn't be in the squad as far as Im concerned. Im sure he was good enough.  Just cos you may not be quite as fast and fit as you once were, don't mean you can start without getting a terminal injury.
