So our plan for the All Whites is to naturalise some Spaniards?

Same wibblebutt.

At risk of starting a war.......who else is impressed with Lia at the mo, he has gone from the worst on the field to a vital cog in our midfield machine.

me, he has really improved in a short period of time.

I remember when Kevin "Thommo" Thompson hobbled out of a Miramar Rangers training session with a self diagnosed ruptured archillies.  He was back playing within a couple of weeks.  I see this as being good news for Iffil.

I thought he was a bit anonymous against Sydney, but he has been better since Riera has played the deeper of the two.

So people still think we should have signed Thompson? He honked the place up last night.

I made a sarcastic comment about it.
He was ordinary in the game but I think on the balance of the season, he has been no worse than a Lia, Cunningham etc...
Ernie may have made the right move but again, Thompson is a starting player across 3 clubs. How many of our players would be able to say that if they transferred.

I think Lia has been far better than anyone had expected this season. He still makes the odd typical mistake but makes less of them and does a lot more good things. Pretty sure he was minging in pre season but has put in some good shifts in the last month or two. Maybe Riera's form has helped him too. In saying that Lia is probably partly responsible for the games involving us turning into 50/50 hack fests at times.

Fuck this stupid game

That's balanced although Sigmund is far guiltier for bypassing the midfield

How old were you....age makes a big difference? Ifill will be 35 next year....and he has had a long history of injuries.

Not sure that's accurate. He doesn't have a history of serious injuries.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Don't think I did, here is the full original quote just in case:

At least he got morphine. I busted my achilles playing, went to Wellington hospital A & E at 4pm on a Saturday and got seen finally at 11pm. They eventually gave me some Panadol. Worst 7 hours of my life. I was only a teenager and played for years after, no problems.

Mega bummer for the Nix. We have lost our best player. Should see an injury replacement in the January transfer window. Can we get an import to replace an injured import?

Agree with this too. I have never been a huge fan of his but have to admit he's been consistently good over the last few games. Really gets stuck in and breaks up a lot of the opposition attacks, and is linking up well with the guys in front of him too. Haven't seen many crazy wild passes from him either.

i think Vinnie responded well to Ernie's tuition. At the risk of incurring Doloras' wrath, I will go as far as to say that Ricki tended to neglect using midfield players as "playmakers" and this is the change for the better that we're seeing with Vinnie today.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

No, I'm not wrathful, that makes sense. Ricki did tend to over-rely on Tim Brown and was at a bit of a loss without him, I thought.

@mainland ... that seems to be a plausible reason for the change in his form, guess it just took him a while to adapt to being so involved which would explain his pre and early season woes.

I put Lia's improvements down to the coaching / managment he is getting now.

Injuries and "serious injuries" are different. Ifill has always been injury prone. Surley you can't argue with that ?
I read this morning that Paul is going to do the rehab and wants to play football again. Either a-league, ASB, or in the park. He also wants to coach the juniors. Top bloke.

A win...PRAISE THE LORD!!

I thought we were pretty decent, but some of the chances missed yet again had me almost pulling my hair out...Stein right at the end being possibly the worst of the lot! BUT, we took one of the chances, and it was a nice finish.  3 points at last, but still got to work on that finishing!

Huysegems was probably best for me, despite some of those misses.  Riera was good, Cunningham put a lot in.

Ifill's injury looks bad, could be the end for him if it's the achilles.  We really MUST sign an injury replacement if he is done though.

Great atmosphere too tonight, not heard a roar (for the goal, and full time) like that at the stadium for a long time.

my god, I can actually hear a smile in that post :o)

Because it is the festive season and we're all in agreeable mood....plus we probably all benefited from a bit of a hindsight.

And sadly I think it is a fact. Tim gone and Plan A went to pieces. As we all know, there was no plan B.
