Yeah, we Australians dont cheat all the time. Sometimes would be an acceptable amount to chant about and very rarely but only when necessary would also pass, but not always!!!

Same old Aussies

Occasionally cheating

You will never change my mind, ever since a certain underarm incident. Always cheat, when you might lose.

I think you may find that was actually within the rules at the time

Why does Andy Haden's jumping out of the line-out against the Welsh to rescue an All Blacks 'victory' never get raised in the same conversation as 'a certain underarm incident'?
Obviously this is a rhetorical question because New Zealanders never cheat! Yeah Right!

Of course they do. I'm English. I don't give a shark that the Welsh lost
I raised the issue, to highilght the NZ blindness to cheating by NZ teams
Border was a 'cheat', Haden was a 'cheat'
All teams 'cheat', play to the ref, the rules, especially in rugby.
A great loosie is always a hero to the home team and a cheat to the away team

Is loosie a technical term? Or is it in fact what the slang term "loose" leads me to believe it is?

Loosie must be a Pommie term for loose forward, open side, No 7!
Examples of recent heroes/villians, Neil Back, George Smith, Richie McCaw

McCaw and the former AB Michael Jones spent/spend more time standing up in an offisde position, no wonder they got/get hammered. Not that AB's ever cheat. Never ever.

Hayden was a cheat.

Problem?

We used to have a rap for physical football, but in recent times oz or the oz-based a league teams seem to have more thuggery in them than we do.

We've got the cultural definition cleared up and corrected my mistake.
Hopefully, we can now agree that Andy Haden cheated according to the rues of his sport, whilst Greg Chappell acted within the rules but not the spirit of his sport, to ensure a victory for their respective countries.

Obvious avoidance of any allegations of New Zealanders cheating or 'cheating' in sport

I'm not looking for a cheap shot! All countries have shameful examples of cheating/'cheating' in their national sports

I don't understand why is it ok for Kiwis to bring up the under-arm incident, then act as if NZ sportsmen have never cheated/ 'cheated', pushed the limits of the rules or interpretation of the rules by the match  referee

Hopefully this CWC, will not expose any cricketer of cheating.

I think that might seem a bit harsh on Krishna but I think that both WeeMac and Roly have struggled to assert themselves the last couple of games and having an extra midfielder behind them will help them. Krishna is still a great option off the bench, and gives us the option to either straight swap for WeeMac or Burns or go more attacking by bringing a midfielder off.

Really....and lose our one striker we actually have.  He just had a bad day.  Was put clean through by roly and on other occasions beat players with pace and others missed chances.

I think Burns and Krishna are both equally "strikers" the way Ernie's been playing them, so I disagree that Krishna is our only striker. Also, yeah he had a bad day, but he wasn't great the previous week either. Really though the decision isn't about Krishna, but about getting some help into midfield to help our more creative players (Roly and WeeMac) find more space.

I disagree that Roy Krishna's form is a concern. I think he's been a shining light in both Penrith at at the Wreck. He is one of our more creative focusses right now. His pace is a constant threat. He has not been "poor" in my opinion. He's been very good.

I do however agree that his finishing has not been ideal.

Ok, but finishing is his primary role. Anyway, like I said it's harsh on him but I think the balance of the side is off at the moment. Newcastle will play defensively and physically and I just think our midfield needs more in there to counter that. The only other player who could make way would be Burns and I think he's just been too good this year to drop to the bench. Plus if Krishna is on the bench he can come on and use his fresh legs against tired defenders. We haven't scored in two games against two of the weaker teams (in terms of league place). Luck is a factor but also our team has been outmuscled in the middle of the park which has made it harder to create clear chances. We don't have a big targetman to bring in but an extra midfielder might give us more options and allow our creative players to get more time on the ball.

I love the Hayden thing.  Always the first shot vs Blinkered oval ball morons claiming football is people who dive and cheat... follow that up with league kickers going down under the slightest brush to win free kicks and then Union halfbacks.

They get apopleptic.  It's great.

If your referring to the test against Wales the penalty wasnt given for Hadens dive, mind you right Haden was a bloody cheat.

you have to be joking? Lia playing the pivotal role in CM is daft, he has not been up to that position for years now (if ever) If you want an extra midfielder then bring in Ridenton/Hicks/Rufer they at least have youth and pace on their side.

Aha, and this is your fundamental mistake.

When we chant "same old Aussies, always cheating" we aren't also saying "and Kiwis never cheat". That is a ridiculous assumption.

Kiwis cheat with the best of them, no doubt. But, fortunately for chanting enthusiasts, the Underarm Incident is a key one in NZ's sporting history and so we get to keep leaning on it for fun.

It's for the lols though. Which is why it's such a shame that one Aussie ex-pat on twitter got her knickers tangled over it. We're just having a giggle. The right thing to do would be to a) laugh and b) have a dig back.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I think you have misunderstood me if you think I'm saying Lia should be some sort of creative pivot in midfield or something - he'd be in there to tackle and screen and take some of the defensive duties away from Roly, A-Rod, and WeeMac, so they could be more adventurous. I'm not a Lia fan by any stretch but I don't think any of Ridenton, Hicks or Rufer would be better than Lia. We lack physicality at the moment anyway, and to hear it from Ernie he rates Lia as a leader on the pitch too. We've actually had some succes playing with that exact lineup already this season
