When you have players like Mac and Roly who are excellent players but want to have 4/10 touches before passing.

What is Wee Mac excellent at?..he has his dead ball moments but play thru him is slow and breaks down..and those missed chances

The team is shooting itself in the head.

His first touch is good, he is sharp, he needs to move the ball quicker. Overall, he had  a poor game including being hustled off the ball too easily.

Too many players being asked to play roles that are not natural at...

McG plays to centrally especially with Bonevacia pushing through the middle. It automatically shuts off our width, not to mention the fact the Stevens or whomever we play wide right seems to always push central as well.

Something has to give.

Do we have any natural wide midfielders?.. and Fenton doesn't count. He couldn't be his own .... let alone a player this season.

Bit harsh fellas

Seen the side play a lot worse than that

3 bad misses bit us bad

That was 3 points dropped for sure.

The NZ malaise of being unable to develop creative players continues and our collective ability to cross a football remains utterly appalling. That the Phoenix are the face of this lack of skill is unfortunate but hopefully correctable. It's not like the problem wasn't noticble 40 years ago.

For my 2 cents worth. The zone was very flat and fairly quiet tonight. And for the first time, I saw fans sitting down in the zone, perhaps in quiet resignment to the fact the game was crap yet again and no wins in 9 was on its way. But why else was the zone quietish?

Why? Perhaps they are tired of giving everything they have at every home game within New Zealand and getting fudgeall back for it.

They players play like they want the club to die or at least have the season end. We could have won that game 5-4 on the chances and we managed to screw up them all including one that was so easy, the guy in the wheel chair 25 feet from me could have scored it.

This is just so frustrating and sad. I really feel for my fellow fans having to out up with the crap on the field, the crap off the field, the FFA fuuck around etc etc. Ive met some great people whose passion and effort and friendliness has been unquestionable, yet now days they seem to have lost that edge at the games. The crowd use to be like having an extra player on the field but not now.

The sooner we find out 10 more years or not, the better. Put us out of our misery or enable us to plan our support for next season.

I note too that the clubs public releations lost another opportunity too. At half time they could have brought out our new striker for an introduction to give us a lift but alas not.

I mean, not at Paradise seafoods Kelburn levels, but still better than you'd expect at the stadium, and a definite improvement on what they had last year.

I saw BBQ stall outside 24 and 'superior' food on offer in the mezzanine. It actually looked quite appetising all of it. Trouble was, there were no queues at all and no-one was buying it cos no bugger was there, they probably shipped it all off to meals on wheels after the game.

It's not that bad, is it? The game was mostly enjoyable aside from the obvious fact we clearly have no potent goalscoring threat. No Krishna, Burns, Huysegems, Ifill, Greenacre or Smetlz. Put any one of them in the current side and the Nix would be going OK, I think.

The fullback issue appears to be sorted (no better or worse than any other team), Fox looks that good to be a more than capable CB replacement and the midfield has more young talent than ever before. The academy and reserve team appears to be creating players that don't look out of place in the first team. So the Nix couldn't score in a brothel and all that - injuries and unlucky recruitement can happen to any squad. You're full of shark if you thought that Fornaroli would be scoring for fun in the a-league before the season started, its a lottery and can make or break any team.

Overall the Nix appear to be stronger than they have ever been, results and table position aside. If we won the lottery and Sarpong ended up scoring goals, who knows what would have happened. I'll still look forward to every game and hope that the end of the license saga comes to a positive conclusion sooner rather than later. For those 'fans' that have given up or lack the passion or whatever, I'm sure 12 months from now and far into the future we won't remember the bad times and your posts will come across as ridiculous whining and a childish embrassment.... but thats what football support is all about I guess. Just ask Leicester supporters.

This season we've been short 4/5 attacking players we had last season , that's all.

Ernie apologised to fans after the game, he also said that Jones told him he can't wait to get on the end of some of the service that the mid field is providing. So he's confident enough to be a sticker.

A couple of positives for Jr and me. Fenton looked quite good in the first half , as well as I've seen him play for quite some time. And the Tuatara outside Aisle 28 was good.

Other than that , utterly forgettable. Ridenton was appalling when he came on . There seems to be a group of players who do OK at ASB level but simply just aren't good enough to play in the A league. Boyd from 2 years ago springs to mind. Ridenton strikes me as another. Not getting at him in particular , there were others who were equally awful . And that the main issue- how many of our squad would get into another A league outfit? Roly and at a stretch Wee Mac. That's it. Simply just not good enough.

that's a bit unfair a big chunk of the squad would of course count as foreigners.

I'd say Lia, Durante, Fox, Muscat, Powell, Bonevacia, WeeMac, Krishna and Riera would all get gigs. Not all of them would be starting players though but all of our foreigners would be.

Bloody hell djtim you have to tell us where you brought those glasses because i want a pair before i attempt to watch the replay and im sure there are others who will want some before the next home game.

That was dire and there were basic errors being made all over the park and to pretend they wernt really beggars belief. Players passing to no one others failing to run on and expect a return pass, under hit or over hit crosses, expecting the miracle pass after making a senseless leads.

Is it any wonder the zone went quiet after starting well,it gets bloody hard to keep the enthusiasm up when we get served that shtye week after week.

Just caught up on the game in the UK. Another blank and another loss. Nothing will change until the final 3rd is sorted out. Krishna has been a massive loss and it's hard to see where the goals are going to come from. Not convinced Jones will be the answer but let's give him a chance. That said, the goal was shocking defending - Glory players queueing up unmarked!

Thought our buildup had lots of things going for it, and didn't belong to a side second bottom. Agree any A league half proven finisher would have us much further up the table, and would've won us that game by halftime. Looking forward to next season if they get a decent finisher to backup Krishna.

If you asked me to describe the Nix in one word, that word would be "uninspired". Hopefully Jones can spark a fire in the team but I doubt it. Looking forward to the off season If we're still gonna be here that is...

I shouldn't have said "better than you'd expect".

The stadium food has some really good options now, as does the beer.

I can't think of any particular improvement needed, except maybe a healthy salad or similar option.

"Ernie Merrick's shower song"

The great thing about all this - in a world where it is always the Manager's fault, no one seems to be sharpening a knife and looking at Uncle Ernie.

He must be quite frustrated. I would presume two things now. 1. he is looking to happier times next season, or 2. there will be a tense and terse Welnix meeting where he says - "I can't win the A-League when the club does not spend money on quality players".

Is Ernie now part of the problem of "She'll be right", should he be more vocal and demanding? - or, should he threaten to resign over player constraints?

What do others think?

Its a bit like a household dying of starvation and the mother of the household says there's a truck load of money to spend we will be ok.

No point in having the money if no one can be arsed going to the supermarket and you are dead in the morning.

Things were worse, far worse, off the pitch yesterday. How did twenty singing and chanting Perth fans get from one end of the concourse to their 'stand' without any response* from Phoenix fans. If we had such a thing as a Football Fans Crimes Tribunal (FFCT) we'd be facing some sort of 'class action;.

* bar myself and my mother (see pic below) which hardly constitutes a 'response'.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
