To the person that has always though that he knows more about football than anyone else--  'that is a very disappointing line up'

What do you think now?

To be fair, all of our luck basically came in one game. We had 4 chances and buried them all. That hasn't happened all season.

Our squad is still weak - it just so happened that WSW were also missing a bunch (all of the Spaniards)

Sweet.  Two strikers, five goals.

Maybe we should do it again ...

Nice!!! Watson does very nicely thank you, and credit to Ridenton - much fewer errors today.  Thought we still lacked ability to control the game, and we needed fresh legs in midfield not up front!!!

Can we break a record today? Longest no win streak? Biggest loss? My favorite would be biggest win to catch up all the missed chances from the last 10 games.

Biggest aways win? Hattrick +1 Great, now we have to keep going.

Pow pow pow pow..great watch at x30 after evening out and so many rewinds.  Might keep the metrics up for next home game.

Really impressed that Alex Jones is still supporting us on twitter etc - if I was him I'd be sulking right about now.

Clearly Alex Jones is more capable of understanding that "shark happens" and not needing to scapegoat someone/anyone than some others :D

Do you think we could be top of the league playing like that? Thought McG was more influential that Roly. We still spent time turning back, but we got reward from moving forward quickly.

Congrats to Blake Powell - awesome finishing - thought Doyle and Watson were terrific. Maybe Ridenton's best game yet - tactically we were well setup - happy to absorb their dominance of possession - but counter quickly with killer early ball delivery. Only works when you take your chances, but today was that day.

Few negs later on as we got tired - notably the Fenton moment - but who cares !

Well done Nix and YF, and even Brandon! Away at the league leaders in the heat and humidity.
Player notes....

Mossy Two great saves to keep them out and then rarking the team up constantly to keep them focused. Maybe should have stopped the 2nd goal.

Manny  Strong
Fox Some sloppy marking when they run in behind, but strong in the tackle and with the head, Looking confident now.
Dura Kept the defence fairly well organised, some excellent interceptions
Doyle Another excellent game. Two assists, I hope it was just cramp

Riera Top game, tackled, covered, ran
Roly Drifted in and out a bit. Was yelled at mercilessly by Moss
McGlinchey Lovely cross for Powell's 4th, Good pen. Good game
Ridenton Very solid, his best game for the Nix? Great cross for Powell's 3rd.
Powell Outstanding display. The perfect first half hat trick. Excellent skills for each of his 4 goals.
Watson Excellent debut. Very strong holding the ball up. Fitting straight in.
Fenton Some good work down the right but caught out badly for their goal.
Stevens Not much impact but one lovely cross
Appiah Hard running earned a deserved pen

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

So now that Powell & Watson have shown their stuff does Ernie stick with his first choice midget strike force once they're all healthy?

This game has just been classic A League all round. Great goals, horrible misses, poor refereeing, 2nd getting a hiding from 2nd to last.

Just need some RBB flares and a washed up, overrated marquee to top it all off

Maybe the transfer drama for Alex Jones has created our much needed 2nd striker.

That is when AJ fires playing along side Ka-Powell

You put your left foot out

And you shake it all about

You do the Blakey Blakey and you turn around

And he shot the Wanderers down down down!!!

Whooooooa Blakey Blakey

And he shot the Wanderers down

i like eating my own words .

Anyone bet on a win for us and if so  how much did you make  ? id love to know what the odds for a 5-2 victory for us would have been lol .

hopefully they can keep the form going and we could possibly make a run to the final six . or is it not possible ?

this is the positive news the club has been looking for for the past ten weeks so hopefully the fans will turn up for the next home game

Fenton is not a defender...

If he plays as a defender, then he's a defender.

Having Watson made a huge difference.

He's a strong player who is able to hold up the play effectively, and when he releases it, he makes positive runs. But most importantly we had two players up top regularly with one providing a physical / ariel threat which sucked the two CB's in and provided Powell with a little more space.

I look forward to next week with Rod back in the middle to provide us with a bit more pace in the middle.

Back to Back.

Almost impossible we are 9 points behind Sydney with 24 points to play for, however one of those is a six pointer. Win that and we only need to make up 6 points out of 21 possible. Or win two more than Sydney in 7 rounds.

Doyle's crossing and passing has come a long way this season. Goes to show perseverance pays off with young players. He used to crap himself on the ball but seems to love it now.

Fuck this stupid game

Permalink Permalink

Doyle has been fantastic of late, hope the injury isn't serious.

Permalink Permalink

Doyle has always been handy with the ball, its his defending and stupid free kicks he gives away that give me the sharks and like most leftys he can put in good crosses but the defending is a worry.

Permalink Permalink

Really? I always thought the opposite. My judgement of Doyle was that he was always awkward on the ball and never really comfortable playing a pass but decent defensively.

From what I saw last night Hamish Watson may develop into a Matt Simon style striker - physical and pacy, while not necessarily very skilful (in a way that Ifill or Bonevacia are skilful). On the plus side, in contrast to Matt Simon, Watson is not a dickhead.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Yeah this. His passing stats were usually a lot lower than the rest of the team. From what I saw of him in the ASBP he usually I pretty good crosser though.

I thought that Watson had a decent game and does at least offer a physical and pacy presence

I will always think of this as our "almost" game. We've almost done most of this all season, but never quie clicked.
