Players have no direction. Woeful all round. Sad day to be a supporter of the club.

how can you say that? They have at least two directions- backwards, and then mostly sideways but still essentially backwards.

Can some one please try and convince me why I should drive all the way to North Harbour and back to witness this shark? Those players should be givIng fans a refund for that dire performance.

Well that was woeful. I have no idea why Watson started instead of smeltz, really struggling to follow that one. Having said that, whoever plays up front, we never get the ball near them in the box.  But for me Lia and Watson were well put of there depth tonight, although I appreciate the team cohesion was so awful that it is was hard for anyone to impress. If we had smeltz on, at least we would have had a penalty taker, I said after Tuesdays game that kosta ain't a penalty man any more than Krishna . Nearly coughed up my wiener when roly got man of the match. We had no plan b, why we didn't change subs and approach a hell of a lot earlier I have no idea, so that we at least looked like we were trying to shake things up. We absolutely deserve the wooden spoon for that rot.

I actually feel a bit sorry for Des and Chris. They obviously aren't ready to be at this level yet, not many mid 30s coaches are.

Bullshark my god some of you are hard to please. He worked his arse off and some of his little touches are great he kept working hard and frankly if some of the others worked as hard as him we might be better off. Remind me again how many goals the so called stars have scored this season.

The Phoenix got their asses handed to them by better players AND a better team. There was a stark contrast between the Phoenix' link-up play and City's. we looked like a team of strangers compared to them.

Tonight pretty much everything about the Phoenix that pisses us off happened:

  • Being shark at scoring penalties
  • Creating plenty of chances early, not converting, and then being toothless for the rest of the game
  • Getting hit on the counter attack after a good chance from us (Roly's 1v1)
  • Playing a young player out of position as a full-back (whom looked as though he almost got a shoulder injury too)
  • Delivering sub-par set-pieces
  • Defending poorly (especially after the second)
  • Not being able to string together more than 3 passes in a row (unless going backwards)
  • Having our heads drop half way through the game, resulting in an uninspiring, frustrating performance.
  • Having all these problems listed above go UNSOLVED for 2 1/2 seasons.

I honestly don't see us finishing in the Top Six, especially since we have the most difficult run-in compared to the other Top Six contenders.

In my opinion I think we need a big change for next season. Maybe even a change in the core leadership group of the players, to try our best to get rid of our 'Phoenix Syndrome.' You could almost tell that the players knew they were going down after they missed a few early chances. Something needs to change about the philosophy and culture of the club ASAP.

In saying this, I'm still Phoenix 'till I die and I would much rather have a club I can come here and angst about than not have a club at all. Just a shame this is another write-off season. (If we make the play-offs beers on me)

I was told there are 11 contracts up for grabs this summer, Well it cant be any of those on the field because they certainly were not playing in a way that indicated they wanted theirs renewed.

Unfortunately working your ass off doesn't mean you can't turnover the ball when it is played into your feet

Not saying he dosnt make mistakes but EVERY other player in the team makes them.Just saying he dosnt seem to get credit for some of the things he does do. Not as if we have guys lining up to come here and if the rumors turn out to be correct it seems some want to get out.Our attack has been mostly rubbish for some  time apart from the odd result here and there. The one recent consistent part of that is Greenie  might be good guy but im afraid its time to go.

Well it seems like I picked the right game to miss. Thanks for the photo guys, letting me inject a little Nix into my big day. And strangely enough I thought the "is she really going out with him" chant was awesome, and she was absolutely mortified.

After I heard the score, to make matters worse I could see the City players celebrating from the balcony at my reception.

Manny's head was smoking at the post match interview! Did not know he could speak. Great scoop by Siggi. After butchering the penalty I knew we get destroyed. This is season is done and over. I'm not expecting anything anymore from that team. Hope I get the occasional surprise.

That is one sensible comment here.

Ernie might have been a better coach than the dynamic duo, but even he could not get much out of this team and decided it was time to do something else. Young inexperienced coaches coaches are all fine as a holding option for the rest of the season at best, giving the management time to consider potential options for next season.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Dont get it what it is about our so called best squad that just isnt performing.Or has the league moved on that far ahead of us that we just cant compete dont think its that because we have shown briefly at times that they can perform. Something stinks

I was disappointed NOT to see this email in my inbox this morning

Dear valued Phoenix fan

I want to take this time to sincerely apologise for the utter plate of garbage that was served up to you last night.  It is unacceptable especially in front of our home fans.  And the fans that make the journey from outside of Wellington, and I know there are a few of you. There is no excuse I can offer you.  We were poor and embarrassing to watch.

The whole team is on notice, whether they are safe in a contract beyond this season or not.

We want to stay in this league and have a lot to offer, though I realise it is difficult to see in the present moment.

I want you to know we are working hard behind the scenes to ensure this never happens again.  We can't do this without you, so I'm asking for your patience and to stick with us.

I invite you to share your thoughts and I will ensure every single letter is read by our team so they have a better understanding of the people they are letting down.

Regards,

Your Wellington Phoenix

Actually it is both, which is why this is a perfect sharkstorm once you add inexperienced coaches into the mix.

The rot seems to have set in just after the licence extension fiasco was resolved.

The latter.  Some noise out of Phoenix towers would be good right now.

Agreed with this comment. If you are forced to play Ridenton at RB, when he is not a RB, and bring on Singh when you chasing a game, you do not have depth or quality required in this league. Both are promising for sure, but if they are as good as we have got for the occasion, we are not a top 6 side.

I was in shock and quite devastated when I got home last night and checked the score. I'm not alone with that feeling.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

and another question I have - why is it that almost every great player the nix have brought into the club seems to lose all the amazing ability that caught our interest? Kosta, amazing at Victory, but for us he shows moments of brilliance and then is largely sharke!, finkler than same, add in all the other stars who have come her and failed over the years.

Because they are surrounded by better players at the Victory who make them look better than they are. Finkler and Kosta were never 'great' players. I like Kosta, but his finishing and composure was never great, even at Brisbane/Melbourne.

Kosta was a cog in a well oiled machine. He's a creator of chances for Berisha and others and he can use them as a distraction too...it was the same for us when we were on top- the defenders had to choose between Burns, Bonevaica, Krishna, and McG all at the peak of their powers...they couldn't double mark Roly out of the game cos the others would run riot. Which in theory shoulda happened this season.

Ah right

As someone else said though, that's the role of a good coach- to give the players the self belief to try things, to not be intimidated, and to believe they will win from anywhere, even when they are behind. In our great season, even when we were down I always expected us to come back...Should he have told them they were average?
