Their midfield is simply outplaying us at the moment - Lia and Manny are off the pace. Manny especially is having one of his 'off' games - he seems to have one in every 3 or 4. Ernie hoping that Ridenton's presence makes a difference through sheer numbers in midfield. Hasn't so far.

Watching Boxall, I have to agree that for a guy thats meant to be great over 20m, he is not that mobile.

Bit harsh - think he's done alright considering he's had 0 support and he's up against one of the most mobile attacking players in the league; not to mention the fact he's quite obviously built like a centre back.

I know it's not Ernies style but I hope he is tearing strips of the boys.

124 pass attempts -87 completed -not good enough

Why all the blame? Adelaide have been playing shit good football in the last few weeks. At the moment they hit us with their intensity and accurate passing. Bit like what we did to them when they came to play against us here a few weeks ago. See what happens later in the game. If they score early another one, that would be an uphill battle, but if we score instead then it's a whole different kettle of fish.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

70% pass completion rate. I know Adelaide been pressing high but just not good enough.

2-0, manageable. think we can do this.

Exactly.

Reality of the situation is that without Riera we are always prone to getting overrun in midfield. Not much we can do about that.

Only if we know what to do next! So far we haven't got a clue clearly.

Really impressed with Adelaide.  They look like a really well coached team.  That's not a sleight on us, we've got some good players and we look really well motivated, but I like Adelaide's structure.  When they get it going it's hard to defend against, they spread the play so wide to both sides of the pitch and probe for gaps.  Unfortunate for us we didn't get to play them when they were shit!

Was watching Manny and Lia and they look like they are in dreamland. The pressure on Siggy and Durante is huge.

Kenny is having one of his Totori-esque nights and Carlos looks defeated already. Massacre 2nd half if they don't pull themselves together.

We had Muscat , Lia, Hernandez, Cunningham, Huysegems all playing Straight  down the middle, so its no surprise Adelaide have chucked it wide and found gaps. God knows how Boyd was supposed to do anything about it.

Agreed.  How often we hear lousy Fox commentators like last week saying how the Mariners "just were not good enough", without mentioning that we played well. Same here, except that this time we have to say Adelaide is playing well under Josep Gombau.
And we do miss Riera - I hope we can look to an injury replacement option (Chris James, wherefore art thou!)

The midfield has been playing like they did against the Heart.....they need to close down quicker and get onto of their players.....its leaving our wide guys too exposed. Whats happened to our passing?.....they just need to slow it down and keep possession for a while.

Must say...Adelaide look a class act.....they move and pass really quickly. If we don't seriously pull our finger out this could get embarrassing. Still we have proven we can score goals...if we can score first second half???????

Cracking game, gotta admire the play of Adelaide, we need to up the ante and sharpen up on the passing and movement, bit shell shocked by the intensity but they won't be able to sustain it. Suck it up, close off the gaps and stop chasing the half chance challenges that are exposing the backline too easily.

Agree ,Adelaide know they cant allow the Phoenix to settle into their passing game  so by using a mixture of pace ,physicality and accurate passing  they have had us on the ropes since kick off.Once again missing the backpacker in the midfield to break up play and deliver short accurate passing up the middle ,Boxall looking donkey like against the pace of the wee Argie cheat and Boogard having a field day against Hernandez !

Not that I really know enough . . . but- seems we are playing too narrow, so gettin beaten on flanks, and not tight enough on marking, so they turning and beating us too easily. still time to redeem ourselves.

Caira seems to have a bloody good first touch- first half controlled some fast long balls really well I though.

Its clear that our defensive game in the mids is pants without Riera.  I also prefer to see Manny at L/R Back then DM.
