For anyone planning to attend the vigil prior to the game. It's now been moved to the Basin Reserve at 5:30pm for a 6pm start.

Warriors openew the gates, free entry... NIX to do the same??  Nice gesture by Warriors regardless.

And the Warriors kicked the Bulldogs butt. Good omen for the Nix?

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

What an understandably unusual few days. As a Christchurch native seeing “Christchurch terror attack” really plucks at the heart. I normally don’t watch the news or get involved in world events but obviously this is different. It’s all very saddening and strange and there’s still a processing period going on for most of us I imagine.

I’m looking forward to us all coming together this evening for something we all love and getting behind our team. Talk of linking arms in the 49th I’m down for, some of the songs that have been proposed I’m not familiar with but I’ll hum along.

Thankful to the club too for not calling the game off as well because, speaking for myself only, this will be a nice distraction.

It’s funny how when things like this happen sport becomes a lot more insignificant. I’d like to go ahead with the chant for Rudan but I’ll understand if no one feels comfortable joining in.

The tune being one I’m sure we’ve all heard I know it as the one Chelsea fans sang at every game in the 12/13 season after winning the UCL (I’ll post a link below).

“We want you to stay, we want you to stay

Go on Mark Rudan

We want you to stay.”

(Ten times)

https://youtu.be/pHmbkxfn2PA

I’ve never started off a chant but I reckon we sing it a couple of times during the game and when he’s near us.

I keep trying to find the right words for this.

Today is not about the result.

Today is about NZ's football community giving a big f*ck you to evil and hate, and showing our Muslim and refugee brothers and sisters that we are here and they will always be welcome at our games and in our lives.

It would be fun to see Stensness get more time.  Along with Burges he added a lot more energy, and effect, to the Nix when he came on.  The intercept for the 8th goal, then a header on target... Not a bad 10 minute debut.

Stensness is DM and also a decent CB, hence being on the bench as cover.  It worked well replacing Mandi with him last week although, IMO, it should have happened earlier and likely would have probably prevented the two CCM goals.

CCM showed last week against us that they can hit the ball so not sure how preventable those goals were. They also showed the same quality this week against the Jets (which surprised me), and WSW may give more of the same.

WSW may be somewhat depleted but I would expect a tough game and Stensness might not be sturdy enough to do more than a late sub. Speaking of late subs, it would be good to see more of Sheridan if the game evolves in the right way.

Apparently Taylor still in doubt? Will we see Golec on the park?.

I think sturdiness is the last thing to worry about with the Stensness kid.  I have watched a lot of the reserves games, and he's a tough unit, against the the biggest out there.  Having said that, I think Sheridan also deserves some decent game time.

Looking forward to getting a good look at Burgess in person this evening. Been wanting him to play more for quite awhile now. Unfortunate about Taylor otherwise no surprises with team selection.

Absolutely massive crowd at Basin Reserve, and I'd say there'll be many that won't be at the Phoenix because of it.

very sparse at the cake tin. Lowest crowd of the season easily.

Watching the match on TV at home a couple of blocks from the Linwood mosque.

Appreciate all messages of sympathy and support here from Nix supporters.

Of course we lost the NZ national futsal goalie in the Dean Ave. attack.

Football and cricket are the prefered sports of most Muslim immigrants and there were a few junior and senior footballers killed.

Hate and racism has come close to home literally for me...

Armed police still patrolling up the road few blocks away.

Hundreds of people are still coming and placing flowers at intersections in this area.

I had chatted to some of the very friendly Linwood mosque worshippers outside the mosque when passing by in the past and recognised some survivors.

I was really moved by seeing on TV just before just how many thousands of people went o the memorial this evening at the Basin.

Also nice to se the gestures from Phoenix players, staff and supportersat tonight's  game.

Boy, do I need a break from the tragedy around me by watching this game tonight...

Go the Nix!!!

Nice to see Roy's gesture on scoring - on the TV One news before they had an item on this game going ahead and said that Roy has a Muslim wife. Two Fijian Indians died in the attacks.
