Such a bloody shame about the cricket.

Club is absolutely flying, playing at home for the first time in a while, deserve a big croud.

Those on the fence will no doubt side with the cricket over the Nix.

Deserve 12k+, will probably get the average.

I think even expecting an average croud for this game is pretty ambitious. The cricket has completely captured the public imagination. Also, metservice are forecasting rain for Sunday in Wellington, and the cricket is on free to air tv.

What would we do without Piney

All things considered, that isn't a bad team. I don't think Griffiths can run out a game, so lets hope we're 6-0 up by then and Appiah can get a run

As a broadcaster you would think they would want people watching their event on tv. This game will have the lowest ratings for any a league game this season on both sides of the ditch. An example of a broadcaster who wants to give maximum sponsorship time out is TV3 swapping X Factor from Sunday to Monday & Tuesday even though their target fan base wouldn't even be cricket fans.

Exactly. They could put some Home and Away or Packed to the Rafters repeats on during the cricket. Or if they have to stick to "sport" some F1 or Surfing or Triathlons that go on for ever

Fox been an Aussie broadcaster probably thought we had no chance of making the final so thought it better to schedule a NZ game then as opposed to an aussie side against another aussie team... when they'd obviously make the final because they are Australia.

Fox are broadcasting this game as they do every A league game. The draw was done by the FFA not Fox Sports.

So what exactly is stopping the game coming forward two hours? Spotless cant get the staff to cook their gourmet fare? We can do without that if necessary. Transmetro cant run the trains to the same schedule that they run whether there is a game or not?  FFS even the referees probably want to watch the cricket

I don't care about cricket, happy for NZ if they win. I'll be at the stadium even if it's rain, Westpac has a roof.

Fox Sports are heavily involved in the creation of the draw. They have more say in it than any of the clubs.

About 6000 tickets were already allocated for the game, but 90 per cent of ticket sales come from walkups, Phoenix general manager David Dome said.

Really....90% of what given we have 4000 season ticket holders?

As far as I'm concerned, there's no problem any more. Since Aussie are in the final, the Black Caps are going to get hammered so there's no point watching and I can dig the Phoenix game.

Think that means excluding pass holders. So of those who buy indidicual tickets, 90% are at the gate.

Phoenix first and foremost, bandwagon jumper 2nd.

Well done to the Blackcaps but Football is my passion. It will be the first home game to date (after 8 seasons) where the Phoenix is top of the table  so there is no way I will be missing this.

Living in Christchurch, I'll be watching the Phoenix at 5 pm and the cricket afterwards from 7 pm on Sky TV - the cricket doesn't start until 4.30 pm NZ time and the first couple of hours are never very interesting anyway.
I don't see a problem.
Go the Phoenix and the Black Caps!!! Two potential champions over Aussie teams!!!

At A Glance

Cricket World Cup Final, New Zealand Black Caps v Australia or India, Melbourne Cricket Ground, 4.30pm (NZDT)

Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC, Westpac Stadium, 5pm (NZDT)

Fans to wear BLACKCAP supporting attire.

Cricket World Cup final to be screened pre-game and half time on big screens at Westpac Stadium

Mezzanine Bar to screen cricket post game until innings break

Corporate Lounges and concourse screens to have both games live throughout

Live scores on the big screen.

Live ground announcements during the match

I would LOVE it if, as a surprise, the Nix played in Black Caps shirts for this game.

Or the Black Caps played in Nix shirts for the game!

If ever there was an excuse to not drive down from Palmy to attend a Nix game, this would be it but no, I'll be down there as usual. I may then head to the nearest pub afterwards to watch the cricket. I have no idea what time I might get home but will be at work on Monday morning.

Seriously, why does he keep saying this shark? Pretty hard to blame this on selective quoting.

"As a club we can't deliver much more than win. If people still don't turn up then it's almost shut up shop and go home time because you can't balance the books unless people turn up to the games."

"However, strong fan support of 15,000 or more for the next four home games could see the books break even."

He is talking per game, right? Good luck with that!

They should install a big ass movie quality screen on the field, dim the lights and people can watch the cricket final after the game. That would be a nice experience, maybe even I would possible stay for that. Probably to late to setup and do marketing.

Then I done get at all why we're berating the FFA for not granting us a 20 year license.
You can't claim on the one hand that the FFA are b*stards for not giving us the license when we've got some of the most stable owners in the league and then on the other hand threaten to pull up stumps if a few thousand don't turn up to the remaining games.
