Yep they said there were delays, also said that was 1am nz time.

Unacceptable. They should've left Melbourne the following day and headed straight to Newcastle.

Absolutely disgraceful result this is. This isn't just a loss, but a loss that could well alienate fans even further.

Do you feel alienated?

I don't. Just sad, disappointed, and a little bit jaded.

We had an injury crisis this season and instead of putting hand in pocket the owners left Merrick with kids who are good but not ready. I read Gareth Morgan in the paper saying he has more money than he knows what to do with, well I have a suggestion...

I don't know if I do, but when you hear the team didn't show up (literally) until the night before, it's these sorts of things that people wonder why they even bother turning up. Is the club taking the piss? I have to admit, I turned the TV off when I heard that. Unless they were flying Malaysian airways I don't see any excuse for these 'travel delays'.

Embarrasing.

Come on, losing 5:0 is just pathetic especially against a team like the Jets.

The season is well and truely over, I dont wana hear anyone say we're still in this, we don't deserve to be top 6 as simple as that.

Earnie and whoever is in charge have a lot of work to do in the off-season because this is not good enough for the only prof. football club this country's got...

To be fair, we've had a lot of injuries.

Need to improve our defense first and foremost. They look like kids sometimes...

See ya all next season

There could have been any number of reasons but really should have travelled Thursday.

Remember to fly to Newcastle takes:
Wellington to Auckland to either Sidney or Brisi etc to Newcastle.  It does'nt take much for major disruptions in that itinerary.

If you were going to Newcastle from Wellington, you would hardly go via Brisbane.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Not so sure about that.

Yes most of the team are very inexperienced but the likes of Ifil, Durante, Sigmund, Hysegums (can't spell his name!), Hernandez, Brockie, Muscat and Lia have plenty between them.  Most of them played today and none of them had a great game, not even Durante.

And while Moss will not have as many of them, he's been pro for nearly 10 years

Fly Wellington to Sydney and then its only 160km from there, jeez take a coach.

Hardly a difficult operation.

Probably not, but who knows.  These are the people who organise to fly the afternoon before a game to a smallish city in another country a good 3+ hours flying time away, not including transfers, customs/immigration and checkin time.  If as someone else said fly Wellington to Sydney direct and bus it you then still have traffic.

No, you can fly Wellington to Sydney direct, and I have been on a flight with the team when they've done just that.  Incidentally, that was on a Thursday, for a Saturday game as it should be.

As for the team, we have been unlucky with injuries, but to lost 5-0, 5-1, and 5-0 again in quick succession is very poor, regardless of injuries.

Re: the injuries, are the physio team doing something wrong or has this genuinely just been bad luck?  Our players seem to get injured pretty easily considering a 27 match schedule must be one of the easiest in world football.

Brockie laughing his ass off at the final whistle. Fuck off mate.

Way too harsh- I think he was talking to the player who had just scored the volley, and may even have been taking the piss. And many are former team mates of his, so he will be pretty friendly with them after the game.

Piss poor performance but still a mitigating factor.  I think the plyoffs disappeared with our second hiding and draw with Perth.  Any chanc after that sailed away when Kewell dived in the box.

Wellington to Perth, I can understand some tiredness but for a 3 hour flight to the east coast  of Oz? I wonder just how much that affects professional players. But having said that, arriving late at night the day before a game isnt the brightest idea. As said, they should have flown over on Thursday.

Still I think the Queens summed up our season this year: "Anus Horribliss". We haver a good coach, we have a few youngsters now with a seaon behind their belt. I'm picking Boyd to be awesome next season. Sure, like most everyone else I get pissed off with inept performances by the chosen team, I get pissed off with piss poor refereeing. I don't mind losing to a side that out plays us with sheer skill, but I do get pissed off when it is a team we should really be competitive against.

Wellnix need to loosen up the purse strings and bring in some decent pros under the age of 29 to help improve the teams standard. Hearing Gareth go on about his millions doesn't help. I wish I had a few.

I'll be there on the 30th for our last home game along with 5,000 others and I'll be there next season too. I just hope the owners are just as passionate as us hardcore fans and come to the party.

Chins up everyone, we still have a professional football team to cheer on.

The commentators got it bang on with 5 minutes to go. They said "the Nix look like they have hit the wall this season"

Ernie has done a great job patching the team up but in reality the constant stream of injuries and suspensions and the constant need to shuffle players has finally come to roost. We are making too many demands of too many young players who are still making their way in pro football. Youngsters can put in good games but it takes a while for them to build up to be doing it match in match out. At the beginning of the season not one of us would have expected we would be depending on the likes of Hicks, Ridenton, Krishna, Watson and Timmins to get us through in tough away games.

I feel pissed off and deflated because it looks like we will finish the season at the arse end of the competition again. But I don't really want to blame anyone...we just don't have enough depth of experiance in the squad. As for this game..... some of the senior guys did not put in a good shift. Boxall looked at sea at CB....Muscat had an average game, Stein was quiet again. Can anyone tell me what Boyd had done to get hooked off again? because he looked very likely in the first 50 minutes...he also put in a good shift tracking back in defense. Once again he was pulled for Brockie who for the second game in a row did SFA

It is a double edged sword. Travel early then you miss the home life routine.

Agree. It is cheaper to get us a few decent players in the off season (even if they just ride the pine) than starting a new club in Auckland or for that matter building a new stadium.
