Have only ever in my lifetime left a football match early once.

It was a Carling Cup match between Arsenal and Rotherham in the early 2000's when the Arse were 1-0 up in the 90th minute. Our group decided to beat the rush and head back into central London for a few brewskis before heading home. We had just reached the Highbury tube station when we heard a very faint cheer and we figured that Arsenal had just won.

When we reached the Sports Cafe on Piccadilly wearrived just in time to see Rotherham miss a lose. The Arse won 7-6 on Penalties.

Have never left early since nor will I in the future

He seemed to be looking back to his best pre the Australia vs Germany game, since he came back from that he hasn't looked as good. Although to be fair I think he's being getting a lot of attention from other teams;  he seemed to be man marked by 3 defenders at times tonight, at least that should open up space for other attackers.

his modus operandi at present seems to be dribble until he looses it.

Great second half at the stadium.  Croud getting into it.  Near Nix of old back after the static muddled stuff and dopey goals again in the first half.

Stuff, Brosque just evened it for Sydney.

  • At half time I thought we were "unlucky" to be down from two opportunistic goals.
  • After we opened our scoring I said to Jnr Jnr that we were going to win 3-2.
  • Jnr Jnr thought that Roly or Boxall were better MOTM candidates than Fenton

I went for Roly, but after Jnr Jnr's observation I think Boxall also did very well.

Jets pulled one back after a quick 3 to Sydney.  2-3

Permalink Permalink

The first hour was diabolical.we aint gonna score playing possession football at that pedantic pace. Our midfield was nowhere to be seen.the forwards were okay when we finally got the ball forward, but khrishna really should have done better several times. The key was taking off Rodrigues.Albert improved straight away and we suddenly had more options and we were able to switch it quicker.the structure was all wrong until then.should have murdered them in the end.thank heaven kenny knew where the goal was.

Well, what now? No doubt there was a mental hurdle the team had to get over today and they didn't achieve that will the starting XI. It was done with 3 reserves. What does Ernie do? Start with the likes of Kenny? Drop McGlinchey? While I loved our comeback and how overwhelming we were at the end, we wont be as successful against the likes of Sydney, Victory or Adelaide. I'm really nervous about what we do now - nervous in a good way, thats why I love sport, intriguing I reckon now we will see the genius of Ernie I hope.

Who was the guy in the zone when we were 2-0 down in the 2nd half who tried to kick start a chorus of "We're gonna win 3-2" and no one joined him and a couple even gave him some shark about it? Yee of little faith. ;) I knew I should have whacked a twenty on us to win when the TAB were offering huge amounts at 2-0 down.

It was friggen cold out there too. Disappointed Fortean Times missed the train too.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Yeah just a friggin disaster from my end. Still good result. It's the sort of display from Cunningham that I always felt he had in him

Certainly the first half was a continuance of our short passing forward and backward getting us "nowhere".  Boxall showed a lot of energy.

As others have noted when Fenton came into mid we suddenly had momentum out of the defensive area and things happened. Ups to Ernie for having good second half plan B this week and for trying by dropping Manny.  A Rod isn't the go forward answer tho.

Still cant fathom why at goal kicks you nearly fit all players in the centre circle..why don't we try and get width and then draw others out to create more space.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

I think WeeMac seems laboured and isn't dropping into space as well as he did earlier in the season, Which I think is why Ernie swapped Roly into the no 10 role and pulled WeeMac deeper and wider. If WeeMac isn't firing though then we rely entirely on Roly for midfield creativity. Also, if WeeMac isn't making runs to pull the defence away from the middle of the park (which is something Roly didn't really do when he switched into that role either) then there's no space for Burns or Krishna to cut back into and no one making runs back out to give options, which is why they always just seem to dribble into defenders - there's more defenders in there holding their shape and no WeeMac making runs to give them an option to pass back out. When Fenton went into midfield he seemed to be making a lot more runs than WeeMac did.

On the subject of Fenton, that MOTM match award was stupid. For a start, he was directly responsible for one of their goals with a really basic error - playing the CCM guy onside because he didn't step up with the rest of the backline. Also, he just wouldn't use his left foot. There were several times where he got into space on the left and got tackled or cut back and lost momentum because he just wouldn't use his left foot. Not that he had a bad game overall, but it definitely wasn't the best performance of the match.

Great game to watch in the end though. Shame the croud suffered from poor home performances in recent weeks and the windy cold weather and Friday night kickoff. Hopefully we get them all back and then some for next week's game!

Think I Remember Weemac and Manny have realativly new babysit the house this disrupts a lot more than things in the home. A lot of patterns change sometimes results in energy lose. May be way off but once you go through it you know.
