Just killed Sky Sports this morning - read my comments on other thread.
Interestingly. I've been thinking.
Sky pay more than the rumoured 180k - I've had that confirmed from reliables sources. Ok so $200k NZ dollars.
Plus Sky do coverage of all the Phoenix matches at a cost of up to 40k a Game. I reckon that means Sky are effectively paying between 800 and 900k for the rights each season, not the pittance witch Gallop and his cohorts would have you believe.
The coverage from SKY has been cheap"O forever, What do they charge for turning on the lights $35000?. Even the Aussies wanting us to stay in the league hate the SKY coverage and can see its cheap"O. There is no way in this world SKY's total input would be close to $800k. Whoever told you that hard news is blowing wind up ya date.
But if I am wrong - Why is SKY not correcting or putting the FFA / Gallop into place??.
The $40k was not the cost to Sky per game, it was the cost to FOX to produce a game in Australia... Fox total production costs for the season, divided by the number fo games the cover works out at $40k (AU$) per game.
The equation is the same as what Hard News presented.
If Sky didn't renew the rights, FOX would have to start producing 13.5 more games (in NZ) each season. (13 one season, 14 the next).
13.5 x $40k = $540,000
Plus the figure Sky pay for the trights = the total value of having Sky having the rights.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
