Another crappy home / away game. Time we canned this idea as people around the country are probably leaving with the impression we are crap and football is boring!

Not enough urgency today by a long way. Be lucky to get a draw at this rate.

The best sides all have arseholes. Maybe we should make it a requirement ourselves and drop the no cocks policy.

Rubbish. We have been well worthy of at least a point in the more this half. Stop being negative.

Jeff we have been extremely average yet again. Realistic, not negative. Early days but the start to the season has been mediocre at best.

How many shots on target did we have?

We had the best shots on target to goal scoring ratio of any team in a-league history tonight. Dewhurts told me so.

Again,I just want to reiterate that you don't win football games without shooting. I like what Ernie is doing but you gotta be careful you play for possession only as TS a double edged sword.

Well. At least the crowd got their money's worth.

You know what that looked like to me? Nix 2013 v Nix 2010. The LOLry were doing exactly what we used to do well - pace down the wing, crosses into the box. I loved the look of Nagai and Sciole (sp?) on the wings.

And for the third game in a row, I think we have shown that the current Nix are not nearly fast enough to play the game that Ernie wants them to play. True, the passes are begining to stick. But what's the point if, before the ball carrier can do anything, he's surrounded by three or four opponents? Reira (and Caira) are playing well and some of the triangles were great to watch. But that's all they were good for. Watching.

I honestly do not see how the Nix can start winning if we don't go back to playing some kind of direct game. Perth were, for the purists, much the inferior team (except for their wings); but they just physically stopped our pretend-Barcelona stuff in midfield almost every time. Our goal was stupidly lucky, a bad call from Vuko. Thank heavens for that or it would have been our first home-away loss.

How long do we have to go before we pass the "record without a win" stakes? All through the match thread, you guys - correctly - point out all the way that Ernie has no idea what to do if his favourite tactics go wrong. Perhaps we need to admit that Ernie has no idea what to do, period. I really think the guy's days are numbered unless he throws this attempt at turning us into a fancy-passing team out the window, and goes back to what the Glory did today, and did well.

That was shite, I've watch better conference football here in the UK. Not sure it was worth getting up at 4am for.

Am very worried about Wednesday/Thursday.  Apart from Moss who played well today (had a fair few shots sent his way which would have been good for him), the other All Whites in both teams had poor games.  Durante scored (he didn't have a clue about it lets be honest) but him and Seamonster were both found out for Perth's goal and Seamonster should have forced a save from his header at the very least.

Ifil was pants too, didn't seem too keen to run today excepting that ankle tap, ditto Fenton, he ain't no RB.

The passing is much prettier and there is a definite game plan but we simply don't have the players to be a top 6 team IMO. I shudder to think what will happen when/if we lose Carlos for any length of time.

I'm not especially angry because I'm resigned to this being yet another 'season of transition' but it is dispiriting to see that we aren't any better than the likes of Perth, Heart and the Jets.

I think there were definitely some good signs, solid defence, Moss played very well, midfield looked fairly organized if sloppy in the second half, but...

This Hernandez guy...I don't know what this guy was but he doesn't look like much, looks good in dead ball scenarios but it seems like Ernie has setup the attack with Hernandez as the link from midfield to strikers but he doesn't have the legs or the will(it seems) to do it.  It seems like Hernandez is going to start no matter what and hopefully he finds his game but I wouldn't bet on it.

I think Ernie needs to try something new...

Well I am not as down as everyone else.

We started well (in comparison to any other time this year) In the 1st half, I thought there was a concerted effort to get Carlos on the ball more and it showed. When we had possession, we looked like a good football side who knocked it about albeit lacking penetration in the front 3rd. When we did not have the ball, we looked a bit lost. At first, Perth look lost for ideas then it was like a light went on and they remembered Fenton was playing and hammered the flanks. The 1st half was a stalemate but I thought Moss was busier and we defended crosses poorly.

To start the second he dragged Fenton and that fixed a lot of problems. No longer did we get dragged out of place because Muscat stayed with the back 2. This FB getting forward crap will not work for us I think and it showed how much better we were when we had a FB being just a FB. Its not a good look for Fenton though. The tards attacked him last week and Perth exposed him today. Ernie has put the house on him but the reality is, at the moment anyone but Fenton is a better pick. You pretty much have to ride out these growing pains and it will not be the last of this pain we get on that position. Bertos was nothing like that for even the anti Leo fan.

We had the better of the 2nd half and it was close for finishing on a couple of occasions. Ifill has nailed that 1st cab off the rank spot and I really hope he is happy with it because his talent is maximised to the limit without extending him each week.

I thought Lia showed improvement again, Hicks gave us the ball player out of the back (Riera still does not play forward) and as pointed out to me, Carlos really did nothing within 30 yards of goal despite being useful when he got the ball anywhere but..

What do we do next up against Sydney with players that will have tired legs? Well if we cannot get 3 points there, then we have some real fucking problems. I think for the sake of the growing pains, you start with the same team again but I think Hicks to replace Riera and give a bit more link and transition from back to front. Lia, Manny and Riera cannot do that. We look like a very different football side to last year and the long ball is very much dead which is a good base to build off of.

More improvement this week but I expect some short sighted usual suspects to beat their same negative drum about how shit we were.

You have some bloody good points at the start but then your Ricki love blinkers in again.

Please explain to me how half time subs equate to no idea and not wanting to change from favoured tactics especially when he has said 'I have found out that the front 4 I want to play does not work'. Seriously. Just come out and say now "If we win the league, Ernie will still not be as good as Ricki and the players will win it inspite of evil Ernies tactics"

5 games in and you have tossed the bathwater, both kids, plug, soap and fittings on the coach. Jesus.

I agree with most but getting rid of Ernie will not fix the problem. He have to be brutally honest and admit that if we want to be in the top 4 then we are going to have to get rid of at least 4 players, with better ones to replace them.

Why add Cunningham to squad then leave him out of matchday team/bench?  We have no variation and no pace at the moment.  So if the fast passing is not going to get us goals..and there are insufficient through balls for Brockie to run onto Im not sure where the wins will come from.  I still maintain Fenton should start left mid and Cunnigham on the right and bench either Heysegems or Brockie.  Least Bertos tracked back when he went forward but he stayed back more than Fenton does.

Total lack of invention in the final third is our main problem. Far too slow and ponderous. I guess part of the issue is that most of our players are used to just hoofing the ball into the box at all costs after 5 years of Ricki.

I think we need a quick striker. Brockie and Stein ain't quick.

Carlos was well off form today and looked in a bad mood for most of the game.

Not convinced by Caira either to be honest but time will tell on him.

Thats probably the better point Leggy than what Doloras made.

I think Stein wont be resigned. He is a good footballer but he is not used right period. Lia is getting better but it still not really the man we hang the midfield on. Fenton is learning his trade and I feel for him cause he will have the microscope on him each week and teams know he will be starting and he is learning. I am not sure the midfield mix is right and what role Carlos really plays in that.

You also have to understand. He has inherited players he can't afford to pay away. Would he have signed Stein and Lia? I am not going to use the word transition because I still see a play off side there but there are some players that will go next year, that he is just stuck with this year and will bring in some players that are more suited. I feel sorry for Stein cause he is has talent but is just not used right.

Understand your fraustration, but these are weird times. Lots of deals being done off the field, about who can play on the field. WC has to take precedence. Lots of players not wanting to get injured today. Ernie gets his house burnt down in Melbourne. Erne has had no pre-season, and "pre-season" is what we're doing right now. Thought always a point would be the best we could get out of today. Don't judge until we get back to normal at Westpac -post WC. Facts are we've never looked better playing in Oz than we have so far, but in NZ we play like the homeless, and that's exactly what we are. Bring on Westpac. Nothin like waking in ya home bed.

Shit I actually agree with you.

The front 3rd does not click and its the Brockie Stein axis that is wrong. I think its Stein that sees the bench and KC is used as an out and out paceman like Archie Thompson.... (not a bad idea that)
Caira is still borderline but there are minor improvements each week and he has not had a howler yet.

Aside from this game, the AW players on display today were overall very poor.

On that performance, Brockie, Siggy and Smeltz would not get on the pitch in Mexico. Smeltz is not fit and the ice pack on his groin probably says that he should not even be on the plane tonight. Brockie, well God help us if we have to rely on him and Siggy got done a few time by diving in and quite frankly is just too slow.
