I expect desperate, hard-won, marginal victory over the depleted Jets.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Going on the stuff article there are injury doubts for Doyle, Rossi, Parkhouse and Lowry while Fox will be suspended - who to partner Dura and Tratt in defence?

Ridenton at LB, Fenton at RB would be my guess if that's what it came to. Is Fenton still injured?

He came on against Victory late in the 2nd half, replaced Parkhouse

Sinclair and Wood.

What is the situation with us moving our academy players into the squad? IIRC we have 22 signed in the first team, do we have 3 youngsters outside of that we can use or can we use any of our academy players?

Yeah, but is that like when we have signed temporary keepers to sit on the bench or when we had Clapham and the like on the bench - not part of the 'Nix in anyway but signed temporarily or does it also include our academy players?

No idea. But Sinclair was on the bench in round one, so something works.

Yeah think we can promote from our youth side  just can't get them from elsewhere (like when we got Lovemore and Clapham for a week). Which is pretty similar to what other HAL clubs do.

Yep, teams have to promote from NYL/SS Prem sides for their injury replacement unless they can prove to FFA that there are exceptional circumstances (which Sydney FC did a few years back to sign Tiago Calvano from the Jets which was completely dodgy).

Same thing applies.

I guess FFA dont expect teams to be good enough to have international players in their team, which we are probably proving to be true tbh.

Yeah but that was before we had the WeeNix. Since they came in, FFA imposed the same conditions on us that already existed before with every aleague club other than us.

One of the recent news articles has Merrick's preferred defensive formation as Doyle - Durante - Rossi - Tratt with Lia screening the defense. I know the arguement for and against Lia is getting old but I thought I would do some quick analysis and a comparison with other DM's that have so far played four games for their team. Don't get me wrong I like Lia as a player; loyal, part of the leadership group, hard working and robust - but I just do not think he is the right player for the job.

Some stats:

Kilkenny R. Griffiths Isaias Dimas Lia
Minutes Played 360 296 360 360 345
Chances Created 3 2 6 4 1
Tackles Won 5 7 6 6 5
Tackle Accuracy 100 58.3 100 85.7 55.6
Clearances 9 8 4 7 8
Blocks 2 0 0 1 2
Interceptions 6 7 14 11 11
Successful Passes 200 106 157 221 124
Pass Accuracy 87.7 80.9 72 83.1 78
Passing Opp. Half 81.3 75.7 61.8 73.1 73.8
Successful dribbles 0 2 7 1 0
Fouls Won 7 2 9 14 7
Fouls Conceded 6 9 9 7 8

I then ranked players in order of most effective to least effective; the results being:

1) Kilkenny

2) Dimas

3) Isaias

4) R. Griffiths

5) Lia

There's obviously a lot of different ways to read into the statistics, but its all objectively right there. The question then becomes, who to play in that holding role instead? I was working late last night and finally got around to watching the AW's v Mexico and though McG was fantastic when playing deeper - plenty of energy, covered the pitch well and was far more involved than he has been recently for the Nix. I would have either Roly or ARod beside him and Finkler as a traditional AM with Watson leading the line.

might be worth a try with Mikey....would need a fit Rossi IMO

I used to play with one of the young players who came off the bench last week for the Jets. Used to swap being goalies at half time many times.

He better not dominate us.

Parkhouse probably isn't good enough defensively to play left back long term. I do think he has shown a bit going forward though. He could be a good option to have on the bench because of that.

We need a list of people who are ready to play. I lost track who may or may not on Saturday. What about Rossi and Doyle? Bring back Siggi!
