why stop with rossi? lets get mossy and dura in there too!

but seriously, if we cant sort out our shark in the mids, it isnt the worst idea.

That would depend on where you are both standing at the time...

Well well

Coach Ernie Merrick is set to shake things up with a selection bombshell, dropping influential midfielder Roly Bonevacia to the bench for the first time in the Dutchman's time at the club. Bonevacia has started all but one of the 59 games the Phoenix have played since he arrived in Wellington and that was through suspension. His relegation to the bench is a major statement from Merrick that no player is untouchable.

No Doyle, Parkhouse or McGarry - so Fenton? Who is playing LB for the Weenix - any good?

Forgot about Lowry, is he available and what has he looked like for the Weenix?

isn't he injured too?

got clattered in a two footed challenge by Howieson. Walking wounded   and was in some doubt a little earlier in the week.

Roly certainly cost us against Victory. I'm always staggered to think that he came to us as a defensive player. I see no sign of it.

hardly a bombshell id say, hes been diabolical. They are talking about Fenton replacing Tratt, cant see that making much difference. Looks like we are gonna get this

                  Moss

Fenton Rossi Durante Lowry

                   Lia

Barbarouses    Finkler   McGlinchey

      Watson  Krishna

I much prefer the shape of that, hope Watson is up to it

Good formation if Lia and Finkler run the hard yards. I too, like Watson up front. I think 2 strikers is better than one.

Not sure what the problem is with Tratt to be honest. Can't see how we are supposed to develop players into positions that we are light on, if they don't get consistent game time because why? He had a bad 25 minutes or so when we were down to 10 men and the whole team was a bit shark? The same thing happened with Fox last year, dropped after one bad game where the coach could have had faith in him and he could be far ahead of his current development.

A strike partner for Roy is a good idea, especially a unit like Watto.

That said, you know Roy's got a strike partner who he scored a bucketload of goals with.

Agreed. Also, Tratt is one of the few players this year who's actually been a highlight. No idea why he should be dropped now when he's looked at times like one of the only few who gave a shark on the pitch.

Apologies if this has been asked/answered somewhere else already (that I can't find on a quick browse), but does a normal ticket allow entry into the SS prem game that is earlier?

I agree, and seemingly so does Ernie.  Here is the link:  http://www.nzherald.co.nz/wellington-phoenix/news..

to Ernie's quote below:
"Our best backline is Tom Doyle, Andrew Durante, Marco Rossi and Jacob Tratt with Vince (Lia) in front of them and we've only been able to do that once, for half a game. That's a major problem."

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Or, perhaps given we are so light in the centre of midfield we could consider playing three  CBs. McGlinchey did well in a deeper role for the All Whites with the protection of an extra defender behind him. Could be something like:

                           Moss

             Fox     Durante      Rossi
Fenton                                        Parkhouse

I'd be happy if we just scored a goal in this one. In fact, a 3-2 loss would be fine, that is, we scored! Not once but twice! If it's 0-0 does that save Merrick's job? Across the ditch, I'm starting to hear rumblings similar to 'it's time to bone the Knights'.

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

those rumblings aren't starting they've been there since the start, a team has to be last it just happens to be us. Besides we have a contract so who cares about "rumblings"

We have to win this though, a scoring loss isn't going to cut it at home to the jets.

    Barbarouses                    Krishna

the problem there is that Barbarouses and Krishna play like wingers, and will do so despite the presence of wingbacks. No target man in the box for all the crosses that go in. I think Watson brings that muscle and striker presence that the other two lack (small, pacey and skillful) and i believe he'll bring it on today given the chance. I do like the back three idea, but i think we'd need a Riera 2.0 to pull it off.

Also McGlinchey does look better playing deep imo as a passer, seems like he cant keep up with the pace in attack and gets overwhelmed easily.

But when he gets into the box he usually delivers quality passes and retains possession very well.

So Litfin and Ridenton starting for the Weenix, so won't expect them in today's match squad. Not looking forward to seeing our bench, though I'm feeling weirdly optimistic, 2-0 win against the Jets.

More fireworks off the field tonight, than on the field!

Suggest you don't arrive last minute to the game tonight or you are likely to get stuck in traffic with those trying to find a park for the Wellington fireworks display @ 9pm. As the A-league stops for nothing (FIFA). I guess there will be more people sitting on the west side of the stadium tonight in the second half as they will get a spectacular view of the fireworks....Hopefully, at 9pm if will be close to the 80 minute mark in the game and shirts off...
