At this stage last year after 5 games we had 4 points.

But goals for were only 3 and goals against were 9. That was after 3 home games and 2 away games. We played NJ, BR, WSW, MC, AD.

Only 2 of those teams made the top 6, and they finished 4th and 5th.

So this year after 5 games we only have 1 point.

With goals for 5 and goals against 9. After 2 home games and 3 away games. Have played WU, SFC, PER, MC, MV

3 of those teams are currently in the top 4.

There is reason for optimism.

I gave it a "This!" for sheer unfettered optimism.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I know our defensive record is rubbish but I can't believe the TAB is paying $23.00 for the 0-0 draw. Might put a lazy fiver on it.

The big difference between last season and this is that last season there were essentially 3 wooden-spooners in the league. CCM's and Brisbane's point tallies were bad enough for a wooden-spoon pretty much any season, and WSW's was thereabouts too and they finished 8th. We really made hay against those teams (and the Jets, which basically got us into top 6) last year, but I get the feeling that the league is a lot more even this season, and getting the kind of points tally from the games against bottom 3 or 4 teams that we did last season is going to be more difficult. Which means that we will likely need to get some wins against the upper tier teams as well to have a shot at the top 6 and we likely haven't made a great start on that front, even though it's early days.

Just to bring in an appropriate amount of pessimism for this stage of the season.

This is internet misinformation- season ticket holders have the same rights at this game as any other fans for a bye round

We don't face CCM until Rnd 13 and Jets until Rnd 16 & we only face them twice during the season. So if we don't start picking up points vs the top teams, we are gonna be miles behind before we even face them.

Definitely doesn't help us that nobody's taken points off Bye FC either - how many times do we have to play them this season?

AND we play Brisbane, Victory, Perth, Sydney, Wanderers, Western United an extra game - which is 5 extra games against the current top 7 teams.

We also don't play CCM or NUJ until next year.

After we play competitive games against this season's top teams (Perth, Western United, CCM) we'll be ready for the Jets....

What I meant to say, is that we've already had 55 messages by Thursday for a non-existent weekend fixture.

Usually there isn't even a thread until Wednesday so we'll have even less messages by Thursday!

This Bye FC may be the budget solution for a second NZ club in the A-League.

Just another player in your game for two
You may hate me but it ain't no lie
Baby bye bye bye
Bye bye
Don't really want to make it tough
I just want to tell you that I've had enough
It might sound crazy but it ain't no lie
Baby bye bye bye

You know, someone should put up a web page honoring the memory of Sery Elie de Campos. So many people won't know his hilarious story.

It only seems to be told in old YF threads, but this is what I remember: Sery Elie de Campos was announced as a new Phoenix trialist coming from the Ivory Coast. Eagle-eyed forum posters looked at his YouTube videos and realised that they showed a completely different African player. The club was alerted and de Campos, or whoever he really was, never got off the plane.

The funniest thing was that it took a ridiculously short amount of time - literally minutes - to figure out that the guy wasn't legit.
