No, not funny if you have Mexican friends in the States. :-/

Its damn funny, dont be so precious

Are your Mexican friends in the states illegally by any chance - if not the wall wouldnt affect them at all.

I'm sorry, I think this comes under the heading of racist bullshark on this forum.

Anyway: solid work from the back four, I think Ridenton did well enough to be considered the incumbent once the AWs come back.

How the hell is he being racist? Keeping illegal immigrants out of your country seems like a good thing to do regardless of race.

Anyway, great day, All Whites AND Phoenix win!

Not at all,  just stating a fact.  If they are there legally there is no issue.

A makeshift team did very very well and could have scored several more. Defensively looking better with Vinnie and A Rod working as twin DM's.

At the risk of being called negative  let's not get carried away. CCM were sewage.

Hard to believe Jacob Tratt was an NPL player before this season. Lowry with a fantastic debut; great to know he's reliable if any of our CBs get an injury.

Krishna with a near flawless performance. Hopefully when Barbarouses comes back they can get some good combinations going.

Happy with that.  The sort of game we'd ditch in the past, to much anguish.

Not a great game though, and bigger fish to fry than Mariners.

But happy with that.

Roux made to look fairly ordinary defensively  by Watson tonight. He did look ok going forward though

Apparently Lowry made 12 clearances this game, very good positioning.  Dura is leading with 25 after 6 rounds.

Permalink Permalink

Apart from the last ten to fifteen minutes it was a great defensive effort,Dura will really have to fight for his position with those young bucks on his tail, just hope Ernie puts form before loyalty!

While Ridenton was solid enough I prefer Doyle (when he is in good form).  Ridenton might be a bit too slow against Victory next week but if Doyle's hammy is still dodgy then it's him or Parkhouse (= dodgy hammy as well).

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

not convinced after todays performance that going back to Kosta Roy Finkler is a productive enough combo..and having WeeMac in it as well.  Not direct enough.  Great win so I was 3/3 yday with England AWs and Nix..no money on it tho.

Ernie deserves a big nod for last night's setup. Tough selection issues defensively, but the newies all did well. With the AW's out Ernie was freed of his biggest problem to date - how to fit Kosta, Roy, Finkler, Roly and McGlinchy all into the same side.

Watson created problems for CCM from the start, and made a huge difference at the top, taking some of the intense marking pressure off Krishna.  Yes it was only CCM, but Watson gave us the option of playing more directly, and faster in transition, when we needed to be.

We aren't going to beat the Victory, or any of the top 4 sides by attempting pretty football for 90 mins. Kosta has to come in, but at least we have a Plan B option tactically now.

I'm ignorant, I'm ignorant, I'm ignorant (Yes, but if you have an enormous number who have lived in your country for years and you've happily employed them at cheaper rates under the table, and their children have been born there and grown up there with your children and then you decide....)

Anyway, great day, All Whites AND Phoenix win!

fify

though I think it could have been a funny/edgy chant at the football as not directed at anyone and in an ironic context.

Great win. Two well scored goals, solid defending and a hard working midfield. System is working, All Whites players will slot right back in and will give more depth. I think two 2:0 wins give them confidence for a solid performance against Victory. I'm Happy.

good win, nice to beat Newcastle and CCM, teams we need to. Lowry and Tratt surprised me, both played well. Ridenton a bit of a rough first half, but not his position

Generally agree, but the problem you mention is one of Ernie's own making. He signed every one of those players you mention without working out how to fit them all on the pitch together.

great win - good to see some of the fringe players step up!

That said I think this was a pretty poor CCM team so I don't think we should be putting Dura and Kosta on the bench next week.

It's great to know these fringe players can play at this level, and i'm comforted that if Rossi or Dura were injured that Lowry could do a good job.

Still have a bit of an issue with our midfield in terms of who we leave out.

I would be looking at a 4 diamond 2 with the two starting wide, leaving the top of the diamond to be a deep 9.

Looks like weemac might be injured so next week we could try Lia at the base with Roly and A-Rod as CM's with Finkler in that deep 9 position with Kosta and Krishna either side.

I still don't think Roly is playing that well for the team - sure he is talented and has amazing skill but he moves the ball too slowly at times and does not have a lot of end product (this season).  Could replace him with WeeMac when he is back from injury if Roly dosn't improve.

So you'd leave Watson in the team rather than bringing back Kosta? Okay.

Tend to agree.  We've also signed a number of taller players, so our corner defense is much improved and, with Finkler and that height, our attacking set play and corners should also be more a threat.

He's rounded the side out pretty well for plan B and to stop giving up easy goals at corners.  Which we did a lot last year.

We just need to see plan A/B score more against the better sides. Not so much of that so far, but it seems to be coming together.

Great that we now have enough depth that Ernie can sit people on the sideline to give them a wake up, like he did with A Rod and Roly.

This week's line-up will be very interesting!
