watta shitfest, maybe we do need a new striker. getting real tired of this finishing, atleast stien and kenny do things off the ball, brockie is now all round useless. Alberts balls forward are a joke too, while louis crossing is still as crap as ever.cant even score from two open nets, Ernie must be cutting his wrists by now.

And what the fuck was Siggy doing on their first goal ????? On his knees trying to chest the ball out of the box ?????

Fuck off. I've had it with him. Bring in Boxall.

Such a frustrating game/season.

This. I just had that feeling. I wasn't even surprised when Reddy saved it.

eyes and body language eh. Haven't seen a clearer case of it since the Bahrain game...

Yeah that and the fact that I just had no faith in our finishing. I used to sit on the edge of the seat the whole game jumping at every shot. Now I barely move. I hate this.

Because across the board we are not good enough. Nearly, but not quite.
I don't mean to dis-agree, and it's all down to the interpretation of what you meant there
but it's not across the board, as I see it
we did a good job of creating enough chances to win that comfortably
but two players butchered most of them and another guy made (another) dumb mistake at the other end and put us behind
that's 8 players doing a decent job and three letting us down.  that's fixable.  Ernie is doing a fine job getting us playing a good game of football.

Un fuckin believable.....I have never in all my years of playing and watching football seen a game like that.

Should have been 6-2...Reddy 10+ saves and he didn't even have to move left or right.

This team does not need a new coach....nothing wrong with the buildup work....they need the best ferkin sports psycologist that money can buy. Stein and Brockie have completely lost their mojo......they have completely lost their confidence in front of goal.

Un ferkin believable.....I'm going to bed and wake up tomorrow and hope that was all a bad dream!!!!!!

Never a truer word spoken. The only time I moved was after Brockie did that thing for the second time in a week. I stood up and walked around my living room half laughing half crying.

I counted 3 Riera long ball passes that went over the goal line. He was shocking. Yes a couple of through balls were great but that's not enough.

Strongly disagree, Riera is one of the few Phoenix players who can pass a ball accurately. You can definately see the Spanish in him.

Many a times he picked the ball up in our half and played it out into safety with confidence.

He had a strong game and deserved his first11 spot.

By the way I predict a 10k+ crowd for our next home game. Because people won't believe how rubbish we are and want to come to see it for themselves haha

I have to agree. In terms of dominating the game and clear cut chances, a saved penalty and a missed open goal from 4 yards out (AGAIN!). We should of won that game with any other striker. Get Shane Smeltz into the Pheonix do a deal for Brockie and Hysugems.

we've made an artform out of losing. That really was an exquisite loss. It would be difficult to say that CCM beat us. We gifted them the goal and managed to spurn chance after chance...I think Merrick should say to Brockie and Huysegems take a week off and get hammered on 3-4 of the days- up from two...go swimming, climb a mountain, read a book, shag, get a tattoo don't think about football unless you watch a bit of European football, perhaps even watch some cricket...play Bertos and Boyd and Boxall...

no more shooting practice. Need of an exorcist and sport psychology and team building. They're all good players who know how to score goals, but they aren't doing it.

Feeling quite flat at the moment, was positive before the game but wow the final 3rd is woeful.

Siggy needs to just welly the ball away instead of trying to chest the ball under pressure in the box. Has made a few errors in the last few games.

Lia- have backed him this season, but he can go. how many times did he pass a ball to a player who was marked by two coast players (stopped counting at 10), and his misplaced passes.

Our strike force is crap. Not a single natural goal scorer among them, might as well play one of our CB's upfront.

Over it......until Sunday

The hardest thing to take is that like many recent games we were all over them  and were definitely playing better than them as well - except of course for the finishing. Apart from that the tactics are working - we played really well and created heaps in the midfield and front. Its the last bit of finishing that is killing us. Even the penalties! They had one massive chance that Moss saved while we had 2 with open goals, a penalty and several other close misses.  While its no consolation yet I am sure we will spank someone very soon. Hopefully starting with Sydney.

Not sure im convinced about much of the anti Siggy feeling just yet.Not sure i heard it right but isnt he  towards the top of a couple of the key defensive stats.Probably wouldnt look so bad if some of our so called strikers were at the the top of their stats.

Commentary team said he was leading the league in clearances and interceptions ... but that's three times in three weeks his mistakes have directly led to goals.

plus last years series of goals from him jumping out of the line
whether Boxall is better is the big Q tho'

Dont you mean he made the last mistake, its as much about what happened before it got to him making a bad decision.

On this I totally agree with you. It's a matter of when. I just hope it happens sooner than later.  To be fair though, our shooting is woeful and the midfield appear shit scared to pull the trigger. What they haven't figured is that if they miss one of our team may pick up the rebound/loose ball and do better.

I agree, and more so, I take a lot of positives from the game tonight. I think we are moving in the right direction, tactically.
Ernie seems to have fixed the midfield, which was our Achilles' heel in the past. Lia, Muscat, Riera and even Hicks played well, although as many pointed out, a better team would have made a mincemeat of us tonight - CCM would get a B minus school grade tonight.
Defence was a bit of a question mark, but not terribly so - Siggy had a howler with the goal and nearly cost us another identical one with yet another chested ball to the opposition attacker.
I do not think we would have had a different result with Carlos on the park, except for the penalty assuming he would have taken it.
With our improved midfield the forward line is harshly exposed for its pedestrian quality; and that means our task in the January window can be to find a nimble, effective, self confident striker.

Though equally we had some good shots too. Brockie's free kick was a good one. But yes finishing was poor. Greeny, Greeny lace up your boots!

Twice he's failed to clear free kicks and he failed to clear the cross in this game. That's part and parcel of a defender's responsibility. Not sure how you can blame anyone else for Sigmund not doing his job. Don't get me wrong, I think he's playing well overall, but it doesn't matter if he can't do his job when there is the greatest threat of a goal being scored.

Hmmm it's glass-half-empty for me. We looked good in spells because CCM were really quite poor overall and failed to shut down our - let's be honest - very ordinary midfield. Same goes for Roar last week, they played well below their potential. In both cases we failed to capitalise, and no amount of tidy passing can paper over the cracks: this is a team in crisis.

We can dream and hope for a January miracle all we like but to all intents and purposes the season is over for us I'm afraid.
