No point rushing Fenton back when he won't really affect the outcome of the game. Hooper might, even with 10 mins off the bench, so it's more worth the risk.

How big are our chances of winning without Hooper this weekend?

Brisbane don't look great, despite their win against City - they're a team we *can* beat. I'd put it at about 50/50 considering our form so far.

I think a narrow loss is the likely outcome, If we play well maybe a draw but I doubt it. I think we will have to wait until the CCM game for a win.

anybody else think that Rufer has been kind of poor, just looked really uneasy offensively and defensively this season. Thinking Payne could do better there once Fenton is back in RB...I'd take Devlin over him too

Actually if you want any team for the Nix, its the Jets. We have the best win % against them, plus our win % at Westpac (43.57%) is only slightly better than playing Jets at their home (41.18%) but our best team to play away.

Actually I do not think stats from previous seasons are any better than tea leaves when it comes to predicting who we should / could / beat this season.  It is such a different team we're fielding now that it has to be judged on its own merit, not on the merits of our past teams who regularly beat the Jets or whoever.

At the moment, we are likely to come up with a narrow loss or a low-scoring draw against probably every other team especially if they have the same coach and stable team, with a core of experienced, effective players. Improvement to those those "winning" odds will only come once Talay has a chance to work further with the squad of newbies that we now have.

There were some bright moments in (probably) every game we've played this season, but it has been nowhere near enough so far.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Nah....our midfield is too exposed. And that wont even help as well seeing that our AMs are too slow at falling back

I think it's wishful thinking putting Waine starting ahead of Sotirio. Yes we all rate Waine and want to see him start, but Uffie clearly trusts Sotirio to do the hard running and physical duels. I'd love to see Waine start, but he is still so young and I doubt Uffie will throw him in from the start against physical defenders like Aldred, Bowles and Pepper. Hope he gets at least 20 minutes off the bench to get in behind tired legs, he's bloody exciting

I agree. I can't see the starting XI changing much from the last outing. Sotirio actually had a pretty good game against Vic. His defensive work was good, compared to others, I can see him keeping his spot. And Davila looked better in a central AM role, I hope they stick with that.  Waine , Piscopo and Devlin all knocking at the door though an give good impact off the bench, which is good. Hooper as well obviously

Rufer needs a big game to keep his spot.

When Hooper comes on I wouldn't mind seeing a 4-1-4-1.

              Hooper

Sotirio - Davilla - Ball - McCowatt

               Steinman

Cacace  Devere  Taylor  Payne.

At wide AM.

Piscopo and McCowatt probably give you better attacking flair, but in that position both still have a bit to learn about defensive duties at this level.

Wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing a bit more of Devlin off the bench as well.

It's been good seeing Sotirio improve week after week. Still not consistent enough, obviously, but he's had some really good moments in there

That's a great line up and formation if our aim is to concede six goals

What do you suggest then ? when Hopper comes on. To make the most of it.

What I have suggested is pretty close to what we have actually done already when we were chasing games against Perth and MC. Rufer off at about the 60min mark for a more attacking player. Didn't concede any goals in both those games after Rufer came off, certainly didn't concede 6. Thought we looked ok in that formation at that stage of the game.

Confident of a win, but it is a must win game.

We'll create enough chances, and yes the forgotten man - Ball - is due for some luck.

Sotirio - Davilla - Ball and McCowatt is good firepower with a late Hooper appearance hopefully.

My only concern is Rufer - he does so many good things - then out of no-where gives the ball away badly.

He really needs Vinnie Lia next to him

That would give us too many scapegoats in one midfield...

I think the move to play Davila as a false nine is gonna help him. Playing more as a winger uses the skills he has much better than expecting him to do anything in the box.

I'm expecting us to line up like this:

Marinovic

Payne Taylor DeVere Cacace

Rufer Steinmann

Sotirio McCowatt

Davila Ball

Once Hooper is fit to start, Ball probably drops into that deeper role in place of Sotirio.

The problem is that both Rufer and Steinmann have this trait; most of the chances the opposition 'create' are from giveaways in our own defensive third.

One really good thing from this season has been Davila imo. I think that every game he has gotten better, and looks the only one likely to score. Ball needs to step up now. He works hard, but that's not enough for an import. He's got a great touch, but I feel like he doesn't use it as he could.

I actually think Rufers issues have been dueto the fact that Steimann plays the same game and they have been getting in each others way or doing the same thing at the same time which has meant they arent supporting each other but looking for the same ball and not getting it. Does that make sense? I think it comes down to Talay changing either Rufer or Steinmann's role in the team, one needs to be the more attacking of the two and the other asked to sit back and help the defence. At the moment it looks as though they are both being asked to do both attack and defend.

Does make sense. I think Steinmann should be the deeper of the two, from what I've seen.

Rufer's got to score sooner or later and he's been working to arrive late at the top of the box.  He's definitely the one of those two to get forward.

Davilla's due.  Ball's due.  Waine and McCowatt have it in them. Someone is going to get a spanking from us one day.  Half of it will be luck, because we're not great at converting.  But I'd be happy with a somewhat lucky spanking.

I think we are the ones that are going to get a spanking, wot we done to CCM last season is going to come back and bite us on the ass.
