Probably just having a laugh then. Or drunk.

We often get good numbers down to the club to watch Nix games HN so none of that carry on at Birko i can assure you.

Three for me, and two for them.

To avoid an embarrasing repeat of the Rojas fiasco, the winner could be provided a free ab circle pro.  Not a word of great training facilities will be spoken.

Despite going to Garin College, which doesn't usually bother attempting qualification for secondary school nationals, Erik has been able to make a name for himself at centre back and in the middle of the park for Nelson Suburbs. Erik was a regular in the heart of defence this season and being Year 13, went over to the United States in lure of a scholarship earlier in the year.

Hell yes! Good mate of mine, would love to see him with the scholarship. A class player!

I'm not convinced that he hasn't already attempted passing High School several times before...

Why do you say that? He is born in 1993 and is attempting Year 13 for the first and last time.

He is a student leader at his school for sport. Top bloke too and would be very deserving of this opportunity.KingRollo2011-11-02 21:11:34

Very handy defender with a bit of height for a school boy. He was a midfielder up until this year.

Here are some photos of him.

Jack Hobson-McVeigh. Named in the tournament team in Napier for the 3rd time in 4 years. Played in the U17 World Cup in 09. Had been training/trialing with the NZ North Island based U23 Olympic squad. Currently playing for TW i believe. Deserves his shot at a pro contract.

But if he currently playing for Team Wellington does that not mean he is already had trainings with the Phoenix?

I didn't nominate players who have already had that experience for two reasons. A) Ricki has already seen them and B) they have already had the opportunity to train with the only professional outfit in NZ.

Isn't the scholarship an opportunity to train with the Phoenix for a week? Then surely someone who has already trained with the Phoenix shouldn't be eligble/worth voting for.

I agree with this guy.
The way I see it (which yes, is probably quite different from how others see it) is an opportunity for a quality player, who still has heaps to learn and who has plenty of potential to go far in football (hopefully to a professional level) to develop themselves further as a player and give them a sense of what its like to train as a professional rather than a trial for the squad, which from some of the things said seems to be what people are thinking. Yes, Marco getting signed was very, very cool but this wont happen every time and I dont think its right to send the winner in hoping for a contract when (to me) its more about personal development, gathering further experience and knowledge of playing the game at a professional level.
I know that plenty of people will disagree, but thats where Im at, and no, not because I nominated Izaac and want him to win. If Im being honest there are other nominees that I think are more deserving and will benefit more that I will vote for.
Peace.

Hundreds of top class players get the opportunity to train with the Phoenix at some time or another, especially those in Wellington. Which theoretically is a trial in front of Ricki Herbet.

Just seems this scholarship has now become a better opportunity for those who haven't had that chance.

In the past I'd be screaming "Dakota Lucas is a great player, probably on the cusp of A-League." But it's not like Ricki doesn't already know his ability. Him training for another week doesn't do anything more for both parties, compared to giving it to an extremely talented kid from Timaru.

I like where this is heading.
