Rival Fans Group?

New to the forum and supporting the Phoenix (I'm foreign). Just out of interest how well received would a rival fan group be?
Perhaps rival isnt the right word as its all about getting behind the team. If there was another group that sat at the other end of the stadium it could improve the atmosphere further. A bit of friendly banter being sung back and forth is always fun as well.
Are there enough fans in Welly to get one going?

What are your thoughts?

9k at the last match.  10k at the first

Would be good but need bums on seats to get a good banter going.  Would FZ split into two groups?

I'm not convinced it's needed, just seems it could be a potential cause for animosity and has become so at other A-League clubs (although I can think of some Fever I'd like to send there).

I also have a challenge with people near the away fans.  To me 'a bit of banter' just needs one idiot too boozed to take a joke and a punch thrown and 'football crowd trouble' is on the front page of the paper.

I suppose if we had 15-20k games on a regular basis a culture would develop as in most established clubs (e.g. Gallowgate end vs Leazes end, Sth side/Paxton vs Park Lane).

A-league seems to be well free of any argie-bargy between fans (as opposed to a few years back) so that does need to be maintained.  The few hardy Oz fans that make their way over have and should be welcomed and encouraged although I guess they will always be few due to the cost of travel.

Not needed imo, splitting the fans can end badly even if its friendly at first and lets be honest who would want to join a rival fan club when this one is easily the best in the league. Can't see many on here joining another Wellington phoenix fan club.

I think it could certainly work.
The majority of the Fever are good natured enough to take it in the right spirit, rather than as a threat.

The problem is that all of the most passionate & committed Phoenix fans are card carrying, sworn for life Yellow Fever.
At the moment there just isn't the support or motivation to start anything new.

Who knows, maybe in 5 years Hard News & Feverish will have a massive falling out, and go separate ways.

If Melbourne are down it goes awfully quiet, and with 3 times our crowds it's hardlu surprising they make some noise.

We're the North end is their party piece and it comes off well, but there isn't a lot else to them.

Not that I'm holding us up as the greatest supporters group ever.

Yeah Marius has a point... we have more domestics among the Fever Exec than a meeting of the United Nations.

I suppose the size of the support really is one of the main factors. The larger the membership of Yellow Fever the more people will disagree with the direction etc of the group and consider branching out. I've seen it happen back in the UK.
The game on saturday was my first match, thought the Yellow Fever were awesome, certainly put the rugby (NZs number one sport?) crowds to shame.

I'm trying to think of Bloc 5's rival group... it was all in fun, from what I remember

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Theres already a group that sit down the far end. I've joined them a few times, including on Saturday, when the nix are playing that way in the 2nd half. Its good fun when there are oppossing fans down there, as on Saturday, to rarke up.

Block 23 Kings Army:

Basically started because we where all students at the time and Bloc 5 insisted on sitting in the expensive seats. I think some of the lads had lofty ideas of trying to get more fans on the other side to sing as well but it originally popped up as the economy auction.

There would have been about 20 of us on a good day.

We also liked the other side of the field in the Mt Smart days as we had good banter with the beach, Harry even managed a smile when I was cheeky enough to give him a "Where to Harry? Bench thanks driver" (you'll need to remember the Kings advertising campaign at the time to get that)

As much as I hate giving Malbin credit, their "jump for Melbourne Victory Ole Ole" thing is pretty darn good.

So true.

One of the "things" about the nix is the YF.

If there were more supporters coming along to matches it might be sufficient to get another group going, but it would have to get its numbers from newer supporters rather than the ones currently going.

thats true, but there is nothing to start a bit of aisle division when it comes to the chanting - we sit in the middle of 21 and can already hear the chants starting on both sides of us. we just need some decent chants to make it work!!

edit: by decent, i mean ones that would work with two groups as 'rikki herbert's' and 'we'll be coming' both rock

Went to a game in Olsztyn Poland in 2008 and they had the hardcore on one side of the pitch (ballons/flares etc etc and the older more sedate ones the other.  It was great with clearly rehersed routines of the side I was on responding to the hard core and them acknowledging it.

I would prefer to think of this idea as "complementary" fans not "rivals".  Dont want alcohol fuelled passion/angst.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

exactly what i was thinking. it would work really well. any ideas for chants though?

It's one thing to have two locations when you have 20k every week, but when we sometimes have 5k do people really think there is a way of starting a second group without making two half-arsed groups ?

HUGE no for me.  Foolish idea.

not two rival fan groups, but two parts to a chant based on aisles. basically, anything for some new chants before disco makes a full blown resurrection

Not enough fans for it really. Can imagine it sort of naturally happening in clubs with large numbers. They sit in different areas etc, would make sense. Here itd just split the crowd into way smaller groups, and would make for a quieter atmosphere and stuff...

Allegedly
