I’m always a fan of ‘Twist and Shout’.  Revs things up into another chant, doesn’t single out a particular player and can be used in any game situation.
Plus most people know the words, so they can get involved.

Missed this chant last year... might have to start it up again.

And to clarify my stance on we've got the ball it's definitely a keeper... just quite funny

Tickets purchased for this already, looking forward to a great match and hopefully a large crowd!

Is the offer only for the two bays that have sold out? Just tried getting tickets to aisle 30 but there was nowhere to enter the promo code KIWICLASICO...
How I dislike Ticketek...

When you click the link, you put the code in that page & then click on the Unlock Tickets bar. The $15 tickets are only in Bays 24U/24C/25U/25C. They haven't sold out yet, just blocked off for the normal sales cuz of the deal.

took me a minute to realise you have to put ‘KIWICLASICO’ not ‘KIWI CLASICO’

could be the issue.

Let me know when they come up with a chant as good as "we've got the ball!"...... Let alone "We've lost the ball!"
You think you've got problems? I'm trying to persuade the T-AFC lads that you should have some chants about the football *as well* as ones about apartheid and tino rangatiratanga

Chants against apartheid which isnt a thing in NZ and never really has been......ooook
I'm pretty sure it's about Israel/Palestine

Excuse the extreme cheese but I made a derby-inspired drawing and I don't know many people that would want to see it irl so it's going to have to be posted here.

Still not as cheesy as the "Kiwi Clasico" name, I reckon.

Love it, and how good to see something actually hand drawn rather than AI generated

Entirely relevant to football matches in New Zealand of course.

Three for me, and two for them.

Glad the promo code worked out in the end! Looking forward to the match hopefully, we’ll get a good crowd and some solid chants going. That hand-drawn derby artwork was a nice touch too.

Yes, which is entirely my point. I am the voice of reason in such discussions lol.

lmao I had no idea there was a snake in the Mexican flag...! Damn, if only Auckland had some cacti I could have definitely chucked that in too.

This is one of those 'any resemblance to reality is pure coincidence' moments.

Doesn’t inspire me to go.
It’s as unimaginative as the dreary football most teams dish up these days.
Someone should try having an original thought one day.

Was it always planned, or did they need to go away and reassess after the feedback on the name was overwhelmingly negative?

Agree, that's all they could come up with? Classico means nothing to anyone who doesn't follow football. So right away you've failed to engage the wider audience who don't know what you'r  talking about. Also classico means classic, which simply doesn't apply to this derby, yet. And won't for a long time.

I really hope it's "Te Matarohia". Calling it "The Classic" in Te Reo pays homage to the big rivalries of the world while putting a uniquely Kiwi spin on it.

The Nix have engaged with local Iwi in the past (E Rere Te Keo) so there's some precedent.

Biggest drawback would be the Aussies butchering pronunciation and you might annoy a racist or two.

If it’s something that has to be explained I hope there’s a bit more to it than just the classic.

Something to do with the Ikka a Maui with a canoe or a fish hook trophy or something. Most kids know the story of Maui fishing up the North Island.

"a racist or two" = "most of AFC mainstream active support", if the Facebook groups are any guide

Oh no. Anyway...

Hopefully that's more of the Facebook effect than a common theme among the support.

If they can vote in Chloe I'm sure they can handle a few Te Reo words.

I'm actually quite a big fan of Te Matarohia.

I wish the name had nothing to do with el clasico. I'm actually quite mad about it. It's so lame. Like others have said, it isn't classic, there hasn't ever been one. The vast majority of big derbies around the world don't have anything other than the most descriptive of names, the name doesn't give the game significance, it has that on it's own. And having it be el clasico but in Maori doesn't make it better. It should have just been the North Island Derby or Te Ika a Maui Derby until any other name developed naturally. The Te Ika Derby rolls off the tongue much easier than Te Matarohia, and I don't care if the shorter name literally means fish, everyone knows what it is meaning, and for fun you could even have some sort of fish trophy fashioned for it.

I'll ask this again, exactly how official is "the kiwi clasico"? A-League social media declared it official after the nix posted about it with that name on social media to market the game, but was this a unilateral decision by the nix marketing team? Was there consultation with Auckland FC? Did they think to ask fan groups?

Yep dont like the use of clasico if people want to use Te Reo in the name and keep it simple why not something like Aotearoa Derby or. Whatever they come up with needs to be short and simple and preferably something of meaning to New Zealanders no need to cater for others at all.

Keeping it simple is usually the best way to go.

So…the Vino Vengeance derby ?

Whoever ‘they’ are who came up with the name should have at least named it Kiwi Klasico for a bit of a NZ twist.
We’ve gone full Spain mode. In saying that tho, it’s just a title. We’re there for football and fun at the end of the day. People just love to complain about things that don’t actually affect their lives. Who really cares

Yeah, that really shows a total lack of understanding of what the word ‘classic’ actually means.
