And I, for one, welcome our new Spanish overlords.

There is a zero % chance of that happening - these kind of tie ups never eventuate into anything.  I'll repeat what I wrote in the other thread

The more I think about this the more worried/annoyed I get.  There is absolutely no reason for this guy, who is being brought in to recapitalise Terry's business needs to take a stake in the Phoenix (a small, loss making part of his property business).  I don't see why or how the Phoenix has become so integrated and integral to Terry's businesses that any part of it needs to be sold, and it scares me a bit that so much focus seems to have come down to saving the 'nix.

I really would like to know some more details of the deal and what rights this new guy has in terms of decision making, what his plans as an investor etc are.  This is being sold to us as him saving the club - is it actually that dire, and if so, was this guy the only potential investor?

There are a lot of unanswered questions and I would kind of like to know some of the detail beihnd this.

While it's not unusual for the rest of Europe to have to bail out the Greeks, I never expected salvation to come from Spain.

It hasn't.

As long as the football club continues to operate along more or less the same lines (but with more money) I really don't care. Much rather the club keeps going than it folded.

JD, thanks for repeating your post from the other thread. Pretty much spot on.

BTW, I think you've locked the wrong thread. This is not about a tie in with Racing Santander (well, I very much doubt it), but about Wellington Phoenix being caught up in a "solution" to a bigger problem. The whole thing has so many unanswered questions and is full of language and statements that don't fill me with confidence. The intertwining of Wgtn Phoenix, Century City Football (holders of the licence) and all of TS's other 'enterprises' has resulted in a very messy situation.

I don't feel comfortable about it at all.

I know, I know, its serious!

I agree - I just hope we get some information as to how the club is going to operate and whether this will have any impact on the day to day operation

We all need confidence in the financial base and ownership structure of the club to move forward, regardless of who is involved and what form it may take.

We all have questions which hopefully will be answered - not only for fans but also undoubtedly the FFA, for current staff (including players), and (importantly) any potential new signings.

The sooner this can be achieved the better for everybody.

As long as Wellington Phoenix FC continues to operate with competent management, I honestly don't give a damn what happens to Terry. He could end up in a cardboard box and it wouldn't bother me as long as the Nix were okay.

I feel very nervous about the 'solution to a bigger problem' concept.

Terry's got the club so intertwined in his business set up that everything could go down in a screaming heap. Hope for the best, but ...

Some people definitely have it in for the new Nix owner. There's a whole site devoted to accusations of fraud, but if you have a look there's not much evidence to back this up. A wide boy? For sure. A Ponzi-scheming fraudster? If he's supposedly ripped off so many Oz companies of late, why aren't they complaining? Needs more work. The conspiracy theories are at:

That they're umping on the wiki bandwagon raises credibility alarm already!

I for one think Terry is deep in the sh*t if he has to restructure everything to someone in Zurich, and I agree with the sentiments above about the Phoenix being tied so closing to Terry's other business failings.

I realise the Phoenix are a sinkhole for money, Terry knew this when he took the license, but is it too much to ask to have things structured so Phoenix are seperate from the rest of his business dealings.

Checking wikipedia, the first thing that Ali Syed did when he took over Racing was to fire the coach. So the "SACK RICKI" crowd might get their wish along with the "REPLACE TERRY" crowd. Be careful what you wish for.

Someone on the other thread was going on about some Kiwi who was willing to take over. I am going to assume he means Gareth Morgan. Screw that. Since when has that guy shown any interest in football?

Actually I have seen Gareth at several games albeit in the Deloitte lounge with his missus ,he even did a lap around the pitch before a game last season on his motorbike .
Lets face it his son Sam could buy the Phoenix with the small change in his back pocket if he had any desire to !

I can't comment on Gareth Morgan's interest in Football or not, but the Rufer academy at Rongatai has been partially funded by Sam Morgan.

The Morgans are shrewd investors, only interested in making a buck.

I would find it very hard to even imagine them wanting to buy a business losing so much money with little or no chance of any return.

As for Racing, it smells like a smelly thing IMO.

Interesting stuff! Ownership issues are the fking worst- especially trying to understand half of it with the bits and pieces of information that you get.

Of course funding the Rufer academy at Rongotai is a slightly smaller financial commitment.

One thing that could be an opportunity if Sam Morgan did get involved would be for trade me to get into ticketing. The surcharge on every transaction from ticketek seem a touch extreme. No idea whether he would have the slightest interest in owning the phoenix though.

I have no confidence at all in this "solution". Terry is getting into an arrangement with some big sharks here

"Spanish news website Vavel.com reported that when WGA was founded in 2008, it had a capital base of US$53,000. Three years later the annual report claims a balance of more than US$1 billion, which it pointed out was probably one of the greatest increases in history. It suggested, Vavel said, a large enterprise, with thousands of employees and hundreds of companies.

Yet Vavel reported that WGA operates from a small Switzerland office, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that their Bahrain office came under question late last year, after a government investigation into their "source of funding". According to Vavel, there are fewer than 20 employees and a cadre of personal bodyguards that accompany Syed.""

I hope Terry has some hedging or a loan swap of some sort, otherwise the low Euro zone rate will seem peanuts if the NZD drops.
Still, congratulations on restructuring.
On the football side of the equation it is great to have a footie mad (part) owner.

I would have to agree ,the only benefit I can see from owning the Phoenix   football club would be the advertising exposure in Australia  especially if the team is successful over there.
Other than that the only reason for owning the club would be egotistical and I don't see the Morgan's,  Sam or his old man as that  sort of people , but its a nice thought though!

""In the midst of the Blackburn negotiations, an effusive Syed revealed he had never been to the city and declined to name any of his favourite players, despite saying that purchasing the club, which was then 20 million in debt, would be a dream come true and fitted his business model perfectly.""

Footie mad owner. The only part of that that might be true is the second word

There is philanthropy. Getting involved in sport in your hometown which will encourage more kids to get out off their asses isn't the worst thing in the world.

Sam not Gareth, I believe was the interest a while back.

How old is Sam Morgan? I'm sure he's good at making money but I'm not sure I want someone younger than me owning my footy team.

I think the Morgans philanthropy is more in line with starving children in Africa, as opposed to lazy ones in Mirimar.
