Blind? Dunno if we want blind people stumbling all over the FZ. Tripping over the illegal kids that have been smuggled in......

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I can kind of see where the Club might be coming from, from a Health & Safety type perspective. Maybe!

Still think it's a bit of a strange one, tho'. I wonder what the other A League clubs stances are on restricting kids entry to specific parts of their grounds.

Hmm, very interesting. Self appointed guardians of morality and good parenting?  Well, it's very nice of the Club to be looking after the interests of our kids, but I can see a fairly large can of worms being opened here.

I can kinda see where the club or ticketiek are coming from, not wanting kids in the Zone, given some of the complaints that have been made about the behaviour in the zone. I don't necessarily agree with the call if it is the case, but the last thing the club or ticketek want is complaints that someones kid has been hurt, soaked in beer, etc whilst in the Zone.

I know what you mean Prof.  They are just covering their arses, and you can understand that.  The last thing they want is negative publicity because some parent, who let their kid go alone to the FZ, goes apesh*t about something that goes on there - like swearing for example.

It's just 'safety first' but mostly from a publicity perspective.

Can't imagine they'll restrict Family Passes though football_mum.  After all, it's up to you if you want to corrupt Junior Champs 1 and 2 or not...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I agree with the safety thing and I am fully aware of whats going on around me when I take my boys there...and as for corrupting them they have grown up around BNU supporters so yellow fever is tame compared to them

That's true.  Living with Champs #1 going to the Fever Zone would sort of be like Sunday School for them wouldn't it?

Used to love refereeing BNU. Enjoyed the 'banter' from the sidelines and the stuff I used to get from Sandy and Chris S, amongst others, on the park wasn't bad either.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'd be interested in what they have to say. Essentially if kids are accompanied then its up to the parents, unaccompanied i think shou,d definately be a no. I['d even go as far as saying something like children under 12, must be accompanied by an adult.

I think that's exactly what they're aiming for Prof.  Kids under 16 must be accompanied.

You can see where they're coming from although a few of our younger members will be very pissed off indeed.

Maybe we should run a "Rent a Fever-Parent" system to find grown up YF members to accompany junior ones!  (that's a joke by the way...)

My kid didn't want to go last time because the older kids told her the team had a disease (Yellow Fever).  I had trouble explaining that the "nighty Knights" didn't exist and that she couldn't do rolly pollies down the grass at half time at North Harbour.  Must admit, if we'd swapped places, some of the Knights matches would've be more satisfying.  A bit hard explaining the grass stains to the missus.

i can see some of the under 16's been annoyed but, its their parents that are going to be the ones that complain to the stadium and the club when their kids come home smelling of beer etc, usual thing, these parents want to send their children to the football but dont care where they sit what they do until one of them gets into trouble.

I think this is completely ridiculous. If they said that the Fever Zone is R16 then that's fine, I don't agree with it but it's consistent. What they are saying is you can go in there if you buy a single ticket or you are part of a family ticket, but you can't buy a money saving season ticket for yourself. I find that ridiculous, and pretty unfair. Unless they are planning on banning all children's tickets in the FZ.

As for restricting under 16s in general, have we gone mad? Do they think its some kind of debaucherous group going crazy? It's just a bit of fun, do they stop kids going to the Kop? No. More PC rubbishjames dean2008-01-23 16:28:13

So theorictally i could get my brother to buy a concession season ticket (he's 18) and then i could just use it. As im 15 and I don't turn 16 til october .

And also you can still hear swearing when your not in the zone- "Your so sh*t its unbelievable is pretty loud

so looks like Helen Clarke is running ticketek now.... (no offence to any HC fans)

What are they going to do ban R16s from four ailses ever side of the fever zone.

Its stupid..... how about letting parents decide whats best for their kids

We will be setting a family zone alcohol free zone for next season but if parents want to take the kids to the YF zone then I will not stop it. It is their decision and thats fine. Selling single childs membership to the YF zone is another issue which I will think about.

I think that Tony has it spot on, as always. Having a family only zone is a great idea. I for one won't be sitting their but if I had younger kids I think it would be an definate option.

I think theprof and Tony P have got it pretty close to spot on.

I can see why Ticketek aren't keen for kids to be in the zone, they probably got hammered by parents complaining about stuff that went on in their last year.

But saying that I think not selling children's tickets to people in the Zone is taking it a step to far. I think as long as they give a clear warning to people buying tickets in the zone about what they can expect there, and potentially insist children's tickets to the zone are purchased with an adult ticket I reckon that would just about cover it.

Tony

I went to my first footy game as a 12 year old (Swindon Town vs Port Vale for the record) and have had a passion for the game ever since, when I say a passion for the game I'm not just talking about what happens on the pitch.

The Town End at the County Ground was the equivalent of the Fever Zone, it contained the group of supporters that generated the atmosphere.  As a kid, nothing that compared to standing in the Town End and getting caught up in overall experience of a Saturday afternoon, learning the chants, celebrating the goals (like no other part of the ground) becoming a recognised regular, getting the bottle to try and start a chant for the first time (and the relief when others joined in), Saturday afternoons have given me some of my fondest childhood memories.  Not once did I feel in any danger, threatened or uncomfortable, if anything I knew that as a kid others would look out for me.  Of course I heard bad language and occasionally saw individuals acting like idiots, but I heard nothing that I hadnt heard in the playground and seeing the idiots made me realise that wasnt the type of supporter I wanted to be.

The years spent in the Town End as a kid have shaped me into the supporter I am today, there are many words I could use to describe the way I support my team but the one that I think really counts is loyal.  The Phoenix are now seeing the benefits of the supporting through thick and thin mentality that my growing up with STFC has given me.     For the sake of the club in years to come please give the kids a chance to be a part of the amazing atmosphere of the fever zone, if you get it right now youll have laid a solid foundation for not only years to come, but generations.  Think about how good you'll feel when you walk around our fair city and the Phoenix shirts outnumber those from Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Cheers

but you will stop it. cause if the parent has a ticket to the fever zone and the kid dosn't then the stupid stewards guarding the zone will say "sorry your kid dosn't have a ticket to enter here" then the adult will be forced to stay with the kid and sit in someother random isle. theres 30,000 odd seats in stadium we fill average 11,000 of them so in theory there is a whole 19,000 seats worth of quiet family zone their for them. let whoever sit wherever they pay for.

I think times have changed quite a bit since you were a 12 yr old DLB - now if a child gets bumped by a shirtless drunk guy - he can get done for assault or worse, or if a kid goes home from the game a says to his very protective parents "f**k the Nix were awesome", guess who gets the flak. Not the parents for allowing their impressionable youth to go to the footy but the club for allowing such behaviour at the game!

Its a sad case of PC bull, but the club has to look out for itself.
