Heard mention on Radio Sport that he was 'interested' in the possibility of signing with the 'Nix though wanted to focus on the qualifiers first... has been training with San Jose also...

Thoughts?

cant see it. He'd prefer the States I'd say.
We really could do with an attacking central midfielder - not a holding one.

I think we've got attacking midfielders coming out our ears, I'd much prefer Brockie, or Zlatan Ibrahimovic

You know we belong together...

I think 'on paper' we have attacking mid-fielders coming out of our ears... I have not seen a lot of attacking flair from any of this yet this season though

agreed, daniel, gao - especially attacking, bertos, hearfield, alos attacking mids, daniel has had his moments but more of a wide player as with gao, I see hearfield as the one to do the box to box work, he has the strength and poise to play there.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Personally I think a striker to partner Smeltzy is a much higher priority than another midfielder.

marquee?

and - on current evidence- worthy of a start ahead of Dodd or Johnno

not a bad investmnent and could perhaps free ferante, or brown to move forward

and/or allow ricki to use daniel at the head of the diamond or trinity with less risk than at present

Although we need a striker I think it is important to sort out the central midfield. We are leaking way too many goals to win any games and it is starting from the center of the park, and thats not always the defenses fault.

I think he's EXACTLY the player we need.  Sit in the middle of the park and spray it round, help us keep possession.  Ferrante and Elliot would be an excellent combination in the middle.

agree for sure,

don't rate dodd or johnson sadly and is possibly the reason for our downfall!!!!

solid from centre out would be a good start to us being a solid outfit at the moment we're looking sh*t in the centre and the defence is not attcking the attackers, we're staying too far back and letting them pass thru etc.........

This is my opinion, yes plenty of players in his position but are they any good? If we could have the luxury of it I'd like to suss out if Tim Brown's our answer in midfield first cause he is alot younger than Elliot, but Elliot would be a great addition no doubt.

Injury issues may threaten continuity, but worth the gamble if he wants a (massive) paycut to come home.

The club could certainly organise a guest stint for Simon, especially as he is yet to secure a club, which would be an excellent indicator if he would fit in the team and brings something worthwhile to the team. How long is a quest stint, 7 weeks? Could be beneficial to both.

Aren't guest stints 4 weeks?

Elliot is a quality player in that holding midfield position. The measure should be does he improve on what we've got and the answer is a resounding yes. Still hanker to see McKain in that role, he looks like he has all the right qualities and has done it before.

It seems that it is 7 matches/weeks:

Srhoj has been training with Perth for the last fortnight following his return to Australia and completes the Glory's 23-man squad, although they have the option to bring in a guest player for seven matches of the season.

Elliot, isn't he 34 and spent a lot of the last two years injured? Ok Covs is 36 but pretty damn fit. But we also know he's a 45 minute man so to speak. Elliot did alright at the Olympics, just that long injury spell at Foolham worries me.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

He is younger than Richard Johnson, only just. You are right that he has had injury problems recently. Still would be happy to have him as a guest player, not a must have but would be nice.

Great.  Another injury prone Fulham reserve.  Been there, done that, brought the pie shirt.

There were rumours of a Hull deal before the window closed, but as a free agent he can join any time.

On tonight's evidence, I'd sign him.  Good midfield fulcrum (is that a word?) and great dead ball delivery.

yep that sure is the word and he looks the part (doubt we could afford his wages, unless Terry is in a (true ) marquee frame of mind

agreed he played well and showed he is better than Dodd and how Richard Johnson have been playing

agree whitby...  Richard Johnson fills the holding mid role reasonably well as he is positionally pretty aware and has good vision.. but Elliot has better distribution than he and Dodd. While you'd be worried about Elliot doing an injury I think he is more than worth the gamble...

I agree. I thought his dead balls were average in the Olympics but tonight his corners were a consistent threat while his distribution in the center was very tidy. He picked Smeltz out nicely a few times as well and would be more than at home in the A-League I'd imagine.

Played well tonight, on that form different class to Johnson and Ferrante. Fitness looked good and he could slot straight into that central midfield role for us. Liked the fact that he looked to pick out forward players and runs from the midfield. Even more impressive he actually found the players with his passes.

if we had one less central midfielder, I'd expect the club to seriouly try and sign him up, still not sure if filling our last spot up with another midfielder is the best option after seeing how lost we were without Smeltz up front last weekend

I'd sign Peverly overhim, they both played holding roles at the olympics and Pever;y stood out as a much better player, both is passing and keeping possession.

Also he's only 20 and doesn't have an injury record like Elliotts A'N'E spread sheet.

No need for him at all.

on the other hand, elliot's played 50+ games for the AWs, 200 in the MLS and a dozen in the premiership. i like peverley but there are different kinds of risks in selecting players. cmon

I'd sign Elliot on a guest stint, and if he's any good keep him.  He could thrive with the Phoenix, but then there's always the injury worry that would render him a waste of money.  So yeah, get him, but we need to be careful (still would rather Chris James as an U-23 Marquee - or Winston Reid <having never seen him mind you> for that matter).

good comments agree see the article in sunday papers elliott seems to have missed the boat in the MLS, and certainly had a long injury record at  fulham, at 34 yrs   not the answer, lacks the required pace  to deal with top quality attackers , evident in the AW game where NC able to burst thru our central midfield just couldnt finis, better option peveley or even more so ivan vicelich ?? why havent we got ivan

Elliot played well, and he has done consistently when fit.
However, New Cale gave him a heap of room in the midfield, whereas Johnno and Ferrante have someone all over them in the A League. Very hard to compare. The few games I saw him play for Fulham he managed well with little time and space available

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
