hmm Ive spoken to customer service people at sky before and i remember one woman who  I was talking too(Jill I think) was a football fan and was just as appalled at the balls-up that i had caught sky out on.
(she was a Gooner and they weren't showing the north London derby at all -let alone live)
Thats how i got the contact for the head of sports programming at the time.
If everyone is getting a response from Mia it means she has been doing the job for less than 12 months as the last time i spoke to the programming liaison her name was Maria. that was September last year.

Got a reply from Mia that I thought was different to others (till I saw Scoop's reply just now!):

Hello Paul

Thank you for your email.

We try to schedule LIVE events where ever possible but sometimes the decision has to be made to put games Delayed. The weekend is always a very hectic time for sports scheduling due to so many live events coming through.

I can understand that you are very passionate about your sport and we have the same complaints from other sporting fans who equally enjoy their sport and want every game LIVE. We were only going to bring in the Wellington Phoenix games, fortunately we were able to bring in more A-League match ups.

Any decision we take is never done so lightly but we do have to try and cater to all sporting codes that we have rights to. Despite this we hope you enjoy the A-League season we have to offer and I will pass your feedback onto our Sports Department.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

With kind regards,

Mia

I responded as follows:

Thanks for responding so quickly Mia.

My concern is not so much the number of live A League games (although I would like as many live as possible, I understand this is difficult to schedule with competing demands), but the lack of any coverage at all (even delayed) for the majority of games, when there are only 5 games per week and 24 hours a day on 3 channels available to you.

I hope your Sports people will have a rethink on this.

Regards
Paul

I've received the exact same email as you guys.
Big suck.
Not impressed with Sky's spamy, looped-reply system.
Emphasises to me that, despite the tone and rhetoric of these replies, there is no real care and attention behind it, mere words, no attempt to discuss or engage, just trotting out....   the party line.
Not unexpected, but sad really.

I am particularly grumpy about the possibility of not being able to watch the non-Phoenix Kiwis (Smeltz, Moss, McGlinchey, Brockie).

Iraq goals will be providing low quality coverage of most of these games hopefully but unfortunately its not quite the same.

I specifically asked in my email (quite nicely i mite add) not to be sent the exact same reply as every one else who brings up this complaint gets,  just proves they see a email concerning Football, and they put out a pre recorded response. Not good enough customer service.

It always baffles me why they put live in capitals.

As much as I hate to back up Sky, as I hate this decision as much as you guys, I don't mind being told the exact same thing.  Do you really expect different responses to the emails you have been sending? They have decided on a party line, and are going with it, and looks like they aren't going any deeper into why not to show it. (Kayaking not a good excuse obv!)

Not hassling, just being devils advocate.  After my many run-ins with IRD, I actually would prefer to be told the exact same thing, not something different every time.

Yeah, with the news about McGlinchey today I was thinking that this season is going to be especially interesting now with so many NZers at different clubs. There is that extra bit of incentive to watch live A League games to see how they all go.

Not that this would figure in Sky's decisions in the slightest, but it makes it all the more bitter a pill to swallow.

I simply don't believe this 'we get the same complaints from fans of other sports' line. This is the worlds #1 sport we are talking about here FFS!

Spoke to John Fellet CEO Sky and he was quite understanding and said he will follow it up with the Sports Department. I will follow it up again on Monday and see what has transpired.

As always Tony you are on the ball.

Great example of one of the top sports administrators in the country today (don't get a big head though you're only as good as your last post on YF ).

Cheers for that,Tony P.
We were wondering how that went.
By the way, Tony...   you may know...
Do Hyundai have expectations of the Sky NZ coverage of matches in their A-League?
Given they are such a huge advertiser and sponsor, (International rugby coverage, The Code on the Maori channel and no doubt others besides A- League) they would surely want to see maximum exposure for their brand?

I think Hyundai and the FFA need to tell Sky NZ to f**k off, and give the rights to another broadcaster like TV3 or TVNZ. Hell, give it to the Maori TV channel, they at least provide good coverage of the basketball games in NZ.

Talk about a wank shoot, someone needs to go postal at the Sky NZ offices and get rid of these morons ruining sports broadcasting in NZ.

If it was given to TV3 or TVNZ we'd be lucky to even get highlights of Nix games at 3 in the morning!!

Tony thanks for following that up.

It's a real joke how much coverage rugby gets over football. and although rugby is the national sport, there are clear signs that the tide is really changing. More people play football than rugby nowadays, and figures show a drop in interest in rugby in NZ.

It's a joke that sky would rather play a replay of grassroots rugby instead of the A-League season opener!

I wish there was some good competition around, as I would really think about switching alligiance, and perhaps many other people in Aus/NZ would do the same. It wouldn't take much to set up a decent football channell, showing England, Italian, Spanish, Australian and US football. They could buy the rights and then charge people $20/month or so and make a killing through memberships and advertisment.

I am a big fun of the 'cultural channels' on sky tv (i.e. discovery, documentary, Crime Investigation etc), but if I had to choose between that and being able to see some quality football on the telly, I'd probably choose the latter.

Just caught the end of a Paul Ifill story on Sky's local 8pm news bulletin.

He talks about wanting to come to the Nix while he's still in his peak, not when he's past it as some sort of retirement gig. Not his exact words, but that's the gist.

Good, positive stuff. Just what we want with the season so close.

If anyone has recorded it and can put it on YouTube, maybe post the link here. Cheers.

Here is a petition I made up, admittedly just BEFORE Tony P's message!

Still, if I get enough signatures, I would send it to them. The petition calls for live coverage of ALL the games so even with this news today, if you still want more - sign up!
