How bad is the commentary tonight...

I"m not usually a fan, but tonight was the worst I've ever heard, in any sport, by anyone. Amazing. Were they both pissed?

It was just an awful conversation about the A-League between Dewhurt and Harry for 90 minutes.. gah

Why were they even talking about the A league playoff picture and Melbourne Heart during an international match between Japan and NZ?

Dewhurst treats a football commentary like 90 minutes of dead air on his talk back show that he needs to fill up.  He does nothing to add to what the pictures are showing

Just let us know what is happening on the field and i'll be happy.

When it comes to Dewhurst, that's my usual MO - abusive and thoughtless. I really can not stand him for commentary.

Dewhurst does a fantastic job at Breakers games so this is not a 'he's just a fucking wanker' post. He does have skills for certain jobs. The Breakers is one, football commentary on TV is not.

Largely what you wrote, I agree with. He calls it like its a radio show and no one can see the action yet, we can! Some times, the pics speak for themselves. He is also poorly researched and makes numerous errors. I just think if he is going to be as monotone as Fred, then less is certainly better and shutting up is a far better option cause then its not just this 90min monotonous drone or as you say 'rather be in bed'

Jeff, I think you might have the wrong Andrew when it comes to the Breakers, thats Andrew Mulligan of The Crowd Goes Wild fame. I haven't watched them in a while so that could have changed.

Dewhurst does (or did) do the stadium announcements at Breakers games.

Commentators - do they have any training or education? Do they know what they are trying to do?

Football commentary we get now is full of people talking over the game on the screen, rather than adding to the experience of it.

That's a bloody good idea. 

With rugby I noticed last week that they had a "referee noise only" type option. 

I say move forward with the alternative commentary approach...

Fred de Jong and Grant Fox could be twins, both are bad monotone boring commentatots.

Dewhurst also does a lot of tennis commentary too. Although I dont watch enough tennis to know if he is actually good or not compared to others. His long pauses of saying nothing for extended periods of time seem to work alright though 

Epic fail at tennis too. He is consistant, I will give him that.

Dewy also does the tennis and some rowing. He's everywhere. Like shit in a field.

Dewhurst and De Jong were at the Nix aftermatch function today. Nobody seemed even remotely interested in talking to Dewhurst.

Stealing a living

I'm sure he's a nice guy but the commentary is just horrendous. Even the most exciting games sound dull with him at the mic.

De Jong is as exciting a commentator as he was a footballer. Dewhurst should stick to voice overs for Radio ads. These two are part of the problem with the whole package
