Well maybe they should be, like their parent company did in England to astronomical levels.

Because, of course, football was a minority sport in the UK before SKY came along.

I won't even begin to point out the flaws in that comparison.

The schedule on SS3 Saturday was thus - 6.30-8.30 New-MH replay 8.30-9pm Red Bull Action Sports  9pm-9.30 Premier League Preview then at 9.30 they showed the live Tards-Glory game

The NQ-Syd game started at 7.15.

There was simply no excuse for not showing the game.

Thats pretty sh*t if thats the case.

It has expanded to levels I doubt they even thought it would though since then.

Additionally, minority sports in the UK are pretty well covered by Sky there too...i.e. Rugby League/Union, Speedway and all sorts.

And yes, more people yadda yadda yadda...Sky here could still do more.

You cant just 'yadda yadda yadda' off an argument, especially when it is a major reason/s in the difference between coverage in the UK/Australia and here.

Yadda yadda yadda = argument winner everytime.

I can't imagine Aussie gets HUGE ratings for the football over there either though? Of course in real numbers its a lot more than here, but proportionately it can't be much more than here.

Anyhow, I am bowing out now because Sky have already shown they won't be trying too much harder with their coverage, other than with the welcome addition of that Football League show.

When Sky promise to show 'Every game live' for NPC, NRL etc it leaves no room for football.

There really isn't enough room to show everything live, or even delayed.
The fact is - satellite bandwidth is expensive. And its running out. I'm all for a SS4 but that won't be happening soon.
Apparently Nat Geo HD and disvoery HD are next on the list, and HD channels use 4x as much bandwith as SD channels (also a reason why sky as F all HD stuff).
Delayed coverage still requires the feed to be sent to Sky which is expensive.

As someone said before Sky is a business and football just isn't profitbale enough - yet.

Do Sky really get that high ratings for 'every NRL' game?

Outside of Auckland, are all those extra NRL games that popular?
Permalink Permalink

Way more popular than extra A-League games.

Think to yourself how often you see someone in non Warriors NRL kit vs how often you see someone (other than Stefan) in another A-League clubs gear...

Very popular. NRL is a massively popular competition in New Zealand, and has been for a long time.

True this. I've never even seen Stefan, so I've never seen a non-Nix A-League shirt (apart from the away zone at the finals last season). However I've probably seen every NRL shirt worn by someone in the public. I haven't even seen a Phoenix shirt outside of Wellington (apart from my brother's).

I hate the lack of coverage as much as anyone, but there's probably fewer of us riled up than we care to acknowledge.

Sorry, fellas, but I'd rather watch an NRL game than sit through some of the sh*te games I saw in the A League last weekend.

Out of all the sports i follow and i'm a big fan of Spurs, the Warriors, any cricket, the Breakers, the one thing i must ABSOLUTELY watch live is the Nix...(and Spurs but  sometimes their games aren't covered, and rarely do i get up to watch them live)

I don't think I've seen a game of A-League other than the Nix games, it just doesn't interest me, whereas I'll probably watch a couple of non-Warriors games over a weekend.

Although have just started listening to the FourFour Two Insider A-League Podcast, which is quite good and I now have a better understanding (interest?) of some of the other A League teams, so maybe i'll watch one soon...or maybe not...

Especially as the NRL is coming to the clutch end of the season - finals three weeks away and so many teams scrapping for places in the eight. While I don't watch every NRL match, if they took off some of the games that are on in the next few weeks and replaced them with Round 4 action Central Coast vs North Queensland or whatever, I wouldn't be that impressed (would probably still watch it mind).

It's also an awesome competition to follow, I do recommend.

We've scored three goals, the Fury have scored five.  Heart haven't looked like scoring unless the opposition do it for them.

Given Melbourne Heart(s) name, it is no surprise that they churn out turgid, boring football. They are simply trying to emulate their Scottish namesakes.

Another Saturday, more bs from Sky the lazy monopoly.
Perth-Newcastle starts at 7.15 and on SS3 we have ATP World Tour Highlights, Youth Olympic Games highlights, Red Bull Chronicles and Women's World Tour highlights on instead.

But I'm sure those of you suffering from Stockholm Syndrome will pop up to tell me how unfair and unreasonable I'm being to Sky.

Thsi weekend their coverage of anything remotely like soccer is almost non existant....God I wish there was another satellite company or a football channel, then I wouldnt have to watch replays of replays of rugby whether its the itm cup of some obscure in the middle of nowhere team that only two people, a dog..and his friend have ever heard of.....bloody golf..and worse Tennis.........I hate Sky

I realise as soon as I say this there isnt a chance in hell of changing anything that Sky does, however it may be worth petitioning them and at least letting them know how we feel about their football coverage(or lack of) New Zealand football is supposed to on the crest of a wave at present...some bloody wave  when Tv wont even show it!!

It can't hurt. The issue is ratings. How many people want to watch football, essentially at the expense of other codes. Perhaps the best way for anyone to know how much hunger there is for increased coverage is a petition, or at least a facebook page!

I believe ratings for non-Warriors NRL will always trump non-Nix A League. So we can't expect A-League to be shown live at the expense of league or rugby. I'd be happy with the Phoenix plus one other game a week live, and every other game delayed by no more than a couple of hours. They should atleast be played the same night.
