Me too. Now that League is over I guess they need something to fill the schedule.

Could have just said that to begin with tbh, even if it wasn't true.

Except that games werent being ditched for NRL they were being ditched for sh*t. I suspect its only getting shown now because they can no longer use it as an excuse.

Am still mad at sky, but glad that will finally be able to see some A league. Lets just make sure we keep viewing it!

Just got back to NZ after spending 10 days in the Gold Coast, and I have to say, I love FoxSports. They show so much football, and combined with ESPN I could see myself sitting down just watching the TV all day, revelling in the great coverage that they provide.

Qualify for the World Cup and see what happens over the next 4 years...

I dont know if qualifying for the World Cup will do it even. The Kiwi league team won their world cup, and they still get second rate coverage behind the rugby.

Bollocks they do.  All their NRL games are live (or 2 hours delayed when two NRL games clash).  Plus there are a few U20 games Live.  Plus the Super League games Live.  That is not 2nd rate. 2ndBest2009-10-09 13:31:43

Well, having stayed in a motel for a week with only the UHF channels, I can say Sky Sport still sucks donkey dicks.

They had replays of golf, some random tennis event in Thailand, and some MotoGP stuff on, while the LIVE A-League games got relegated to Sky 3.

I had a wander around the bars where I am staying in Auckland, none of them had Sky Digital to display on their TVs, so suffice to say, A-League will get sweet f**k all coverage around New Zealand as long as Sky keeps off-loading it onto Sky Sports 3 channel.

I know there are a lot of business who still only display Sky UHF channels.

A lot of hotels carry SS2 - City Life Auckland, Sebel Suites, Quaywest... are places I usually stay.

No hotel carries SS3 that I know of in Auckland.

Heritage hotel had SS3 last year in December I believe. Watched Nix vs CCM on it while I was staying.

They didn't when I stayed there - forgot to add them to SS2 carriers, but they're the same group as City Life. I usually stay in the Towers wing rather than the hotel wing, so perhaps they're different.

I should add that City Life did have SS3 during Euro 2008, which was a pleasant surprise.

PS: Sky once told me that any hotel that has SS2 has rights to SS3 as well, though most elect not to include it. When SS2 first appeared at the City Life (coincidentally or not, after I gave feedback that I would have to stay somewhere else during Euro 2008 if they only had SS1), the Discovery channel was dropped. I suspect they have a fixed number of channels they can fit into their system?

It sure has, we used to get phoenix and one other game. Now I think were getting almost every game each week? maybe every game
Permalink Permalink

Every game has been live pretty much, a few exceptions when there were rugby finals being played and the odd game was played delayed.

Otherwise, looking much better from Sky TV. Still not showing the intros and outros that they provide on Fox... those bits are good to watch.
But the games are definitely on to watch.

Coverage is very decent nowadays. Still probably not as good as Fox .. But from what we were getting its a vast improvement.

What is annoying though is NO analysis on EPL games or Phoenix games. Half time with that annoying music is, well, annoying!

Has anyone got an August SKY Guide yet?  Be keen to know what's lined up in terms of live coverage of games not featuring the Phoenix.  First game is next Thursday at 9.30pm - Heart v Mariners, followed by games at 10pm and midnight Friday, 10pm Saturday and 5pm Sunday.

from the latest Listener

Thursday at 9.30pm - Heart v Mariners = yes

games at 10pm = no

and midnight Friday = Perth v NQF = yes,

10pm Saturday and 5pm Sunday = not in that Listner

Thanks tigers.  Can't see the 5pm Sunday game getting on live with so much league and rugby on at that time...I guess Melbourne v Sydney (undoubted game of the round) on Saturday at 10pm will be unlikely too, although the All Black test is at 7.35pm that night, so no 10pm rugby game.

At least we get to see the Heart's first match.

what about those 3/4 channels they used for the winter olympics ?

surely SKY could get ONE of these back to show HAL games for a few weeks.

It will all depend on potential advertising revenue to justify such a thing.

Now if Hyundai and Volkswagen could put aside their differences and get together for the sake of NZ football,
(not to mention target a healthy, growing sector of the NZ sports market basking in the All Whites afterglow).....
with a bit of help from Macdonalds, Export 33, Sony,Quantas, Westfield and the other recognised A-League and NZ football sponsors we could have that channel.

Would take a concerted effort from Sky marketing  to develop the package..or are they just order takers??, ...
plus input from NZ Football... what marketing expertise do we have on board??...
step right up Mr (ex Sony) Glading! ...

...and Ropata's your Mums bro.

All 5 games appear to be on Sky - though 3 are delayed; 2 by a whole night.

As already mentioned, The Melbourne H vs Central Coast and Perth vs North Queensland matches are both live.

Adelaide vs Newcastle and Sydney vs Melbourne are both delayed from Friday and Saturday nights respectively to the following mornings at 10am.

If I'm reading it right the Brisbane vs Gold Coast match is delayed by only an hour, being shown 6pm on Sunday night.

Round 2 has three matches live with one delayed overnight and the other played 3 hours later the same day.

sooo glad I cancelled sky early last season when A-League was ripped off, same thing this year.

Just do what I did, cancel sky, get larger broadband allowance and watch all games live

Anyone know if SBS show games?

actually, one would think that Sky would cash in on footballs success in an effort to atttract more viewers. Sadly I think they continue to keep their heads stuck inside a Rugby ball.

SBS don't have the A-League, it's only on Foxtel in Aussie. There's no A-League on free to air, although I'm guessing that'll be part of the next TV package negotiations

Talk about useless.  Hopefully when the NRL and whatever else is done then we'll get all games live except in very exceptional circumstances.
Permalink Permalink

I can certainly understand if there is live sport on all 3 channels that they have to shift the A-League a little. It's annoying but an all-Oz NRL clash would rate vastly superior to an all-Oz A-League match.

As long as they fit as many live matches as possible and delay the rest by the a reasonable amount then I am content.

Will stream any match not shown live over the PS3 anyways.

Does anyone reckon a 'football channel' would be a viable option for Sky?

I'd like to think yes, but it's most likley a no. I remember seeing some ratings a few months back which compared some sort of rugby game (might have been a Super 14 game) and an All Whites game (I think it was the Mexico friendly sorry for the vagueness, I feel ill!). Anyway, the rugby blitzed the international football. Comparative to rugby, football doesn't rate well. Would be good to see the average Super 14, NRL, and Phoenix game ratings. I would assume the Nix games would be far below the other two.

In time I think this will change. Just right now I don't think football is viable for Sky, or else we might see some god damned NZFC on the tele as well!

I actually don't mind too much on how many they are covering. think its quite positive. I mean realistically, only the true fans are going to wanna see games like fury vs marriners every week live. I don't mind the delays as I'm sure the games won't be getting too many views.

I would like them to show more GCU games, plus planes and raw seeing as they do have kiwi players. But overall they just gotta give us nix coverage.

And I really think what they should do is get a really good pregame show for the nix, because thats really where the football fans will be watching. That'd be the best option in my opinion

August and September are the two months I blow my interweb allowance for the month.

Another roadblock t a football channel I suspoect is that rights for overseas football are probably a lot higher than rights for overseas Rugby.  We'd love a channel with Bundesliga, Primera, Serie A and the Championship but the rights to them would probably cost more than the the entire Rugby Union rights for the world cost them and that includes them financially bankrolling SANZAR.

Can't believe how 1 year has gone so fast and we are talking about the same topic.

Foxtel has all the games live over here, no delay. Sky will come good in October like last year. At least they showed the Boca game live.  Answer is to increase your internet download to 30 gig and tune in to Iraq goals.
