Very original. The worst comment of the year.

Thanks buddy. Worst comment of the year SO FAR if you are taking that stance.
But on a more serious note, at the moment it looks like Smeltz will be at Gold Coast next season, and not with Turkey. Of course i would like him to go to Turkey. But, personally,  I am getting tired of the Smeltz drama and I will want to get revenge on GCU for calling us sharks, money poachers etc. Tbh Leggy, do you not want us to smash GCU next season? Would you rather us be a complete walk-over for them. Im pretty sure no-body does.

And by the way, Im pretty sure that isnt worst comment of the year. I'm sure we could all(bar you by the sounds of it) think of worse ones.

I get your drift, but the wording of kick the s--t out of them was silly. We want to beat them with class and skill. By doing what you suggested we would end up with a few red cards, and we would have shot ourselves in the foot.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Heh. What i meant by kick the s--t out of them it was more like pretty much just hammering them score-wise. Not literally kick them.

I was told WELL before the October deadline that he had an offer from Gold Coast.

Pot, kettle...

...and as for Smeltz caught in the middle crap ? Please... absolute claptrap, if he could go to Turkey for three times the salary he'd be on a plane today.

[QUOTE=Midfielder]United CEO Clive Mensink declared: We wouldnt be conducting business in a similar fashion to Wellington. We would be more honourable than that and we will be asking for there to be some sort of official investigation.

Like the way you have honourably skirted the salary cap with the jobs for wives scheme ?  Like you honourably ignored the October deadline for talking to players ?

Oh and it's entirely the same thread.

...oh, and while I'm off on one.

 - Smeltz All White place in jeopardy ?
1, Tony P has no authority over the All Whites.
2, Shane is way to clever to genuinely think his AW's spot is threatened.

...and Tony P has fronted up.
He told us they had an offer, he talked to Smeltz and ask if he wanted it accepted and he said yes.  What more does he need to say ?

Just a shame the journalist is so busy spouting the party line he didn't bother to think about the implications of the crap he's being fed.

The biggest give-away in that article was right at the end:

Midfielder wrote:
United head coach Miron Bleiberg said: ''Shane will be with us for at least a year, if at the end of that time there is another offer and he still wants to go, then maybe we would look at it because you also have to be fair to the desires and wishes of any player.

Bleiberg has been on his moral high-horse right from the start of this bullsh*t-fest and for him to concede that Smeltz might now only play one year of a three year contract and that he "wants to go" says it all really.

There seems little doubt to me that either Smeltz or an agent of Smeltz asked the Phoenix to process some paperwork within the transfer window to at least keep the Hacettepe deal alive while they talked to Gold Coast about it. So what? That's just business and Gold Coast were within their rights to then say no. Why they have been boo-hooing about it so much is a mystery to me except that having one of their star signings trying to jump ship without kicking a ball isn't such a great look. And much easier to blame the Phoenix for some alleged skull-duggery than admit that in public I guess.

News, you and I both know why GC are pissed off and we also know they have reasonable cause to be.

Notwithstanding the fact that we'd all have rather seen Shane in Turkey nobody in this sorry saga has a moral high horse to mount.  Nobody.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

It has all of the makings of a great rivalry. I want us to beat them...and kick the sh*t out of them. But mostly I just want Bleiberg to shut his mouth

The word legend doesn't suggest current

Anthony Wilding won 4 wimbledons in a row. Can't think of any others besides Bjorn Borg and Roger Federer that have done that

Whilst litigating these sorts of matters in the press seldom serves any useful purpose Tony has every right to correct, through the press, the assertions and accusations publically made by GCU.

That said - enough of this bullsh*t - let's get on with building our squad for next season.

I actually hope this ends in some sort of massive blow up, to often stories like this just peeter out (e.g. Brad Haddins wankfaceness). Hopefully we get a bit of two and fro and it eventually comes out that we were in the right, Smeltzy stuffed up and that GCU are absolute f**kwits

Gold Coast CEO Clive Mensink had earlier questioned Wellington's conduct over the Smeltz saga but on Monday wanted the matter "put to bed".

"If we decide to go ahead with a complaint (to the FFA), we will probably do it discreetly and in-house - there won't be anything public," he told AAP.

"But the bottom line is Shane is locked in at the Gold Coast.

"He was here on the weekend looking at houses, so he's right to go."

Nice attempt at a back-down by the Gold Coast. Two points though:

1. This "scandal" ain't over until we say it's over! Gold Coast might want to "put it to bed" but to be frank there's f**k all else going at the moment so let's see if we can't stretch this out a bit longer.

2. Smeltz house-hunting on the Gold Coast doesn't mean sh*t. He's probably just looking for somewhere to invest all his Turkish Lira!

, pretty sure I've had a few that were worse than that! Besides, never mind winning beautifully! I'm all for giving them a few kicks here and there if we win, and assuming it isn't too nasty...

The actual facts are irrelevant.

This is a thread based on rumour, half-truths and ill-informed speculation.

If you start bringing facts in you'll just ruin it.

The only thing that has been established beyond doubt in this whole farce is that Clive Plamer is the spitting image of Mr Creosote (see thread under News Discussion) and Milon Blibbleburg (or whatever his name is) is a complete t**ser.

We've not heard anything from Shane on this or too much around the time of his GCU transfer speculation either. Perhaps acting on advice given to him, but in this latest case he could have said something that put the Nix in the clear (if they were that is). Just strikes me as being a bit inconsiderate.

He'll be with GC from next month, I don't think he's likely to come out and put the Nix in the clear as you say. That would essentially be saying his new employers were in the wrong. It's a dead issue here.

Just in case the Nix, GCU and Turkish offers fall through Shane thought it might be helpful to mention Adelaide was a possibility - personally I would think he was better advised to keep quiet until the dust had settled on the transfer mess he was in the middle of.

Ouch - that hurts

"But the sight of players like Shane Smeltz, Michael Thwaite, Tahj Minniecon and Jess Vanstrattan taking the field together was enough to delight a crowd of onlookers, including club owner Clive Palmer and his family".

Wonder which of the places in the background is the Ben Buckley's blinkers memorial salary cap backhander for Smeltzy.
