Well done Sydney, ignoring the 2nd goal, we were clearly second best tonight.

Pity to end the season on such a downer but that lads and ladettes is Football. You win some. You lose some.

Alot of you are very bitter about this Handball incident but it doesn't really matter we played terrible all night. There is always alot of what ifs when you lose but tonight it was clear we were subpar.

I am sad that we did not make the final but happy about our season. Only team undefeated at home, Great games, great wins and great players. The season has ended but I am already looking forward to the next to see what Ifill will do and Daniel, the youngsters we might bring up and the new players we will have.

Maybe it is because I am drunk off my face but I am somewhat content. I feel next year we will truly be a team to reckoned with. And hopefully go one step further and win it.

my thoughts:

we seemed to have no energy, meaning we were second best to everything.  We couldn't pass wind meaning we never really looked dangerous.  Sydney are a decent side, so it is no disgrace going out to them on their own patch, especially with the cheating in the second goal that changed the way the game was played.  Iffil was clearly injured, and he is a massive part of our team.  I hope that c**t Payne breaks his spine.  I still have a hangover.

I still don't understand why there are hardly any yellow cards with the serious fouls. The amount of tackle from behind not called is unbelievable.

The failures at Barfifa all cleared the room after Sydney's fourth goal. I am proud that I stuck around to see Eugene Dadi put it in the net, and was there to hold up my Phoenix scarf at the final whistle.

Congratulations, Chris Payne, you have been instrumental in dislodging me from my previous SFC/Victory neutrality. Forza Melbourne! Smash the Scum!

There were parts in that match that resembled a Kung Fu movie. No ball, just lots of flying feet.

Im very proud of the boys. Its been an awesome year.
Tonight was a downer but hey, thats life.
Sydney were obviously the better team tonight. But we had some very nice moments where we looked like we were going to score. We just couldnt finish in the final quarter.

Lets try to be mature about the whole Paynegate thing.

Take the Sydney hat off please.

I've never shouted so many expletives in my life. f**k being mature, he cheated hundreds of Wellington fans that travelled over (great work btw) out of a fair game.

Ricki saying similar right now. Good on him.

If he signs for us I'll tear my hair out.

He'd better get boos.

But on a more positive note, congratulations to Ricki and the rest of the squad.  They did very well taking us this far.

Great season lads and next year the ring of fire is our fortress and when we travel we can go in confident and take out the league and then on to the ACL. That would stuff up the AFC.

Agreed loyal. Great work by the team, backroom staff and every single fan (even the bandwagoners). It's just too bad that the last memory in our mind to tide us over until next season will be that disgusting piece of cheating.

Gutted but happy with 3rd. At the end of the day, Sydney and melbourne do deserve to be in the grand final.

Sydney did very well to close us down early and give our key men little time on the ball.

Eh?? If both handballs were called, it might have been 3-3 and we would gone to extra time. We have every right to complain. It doesn't matter who look the better team as long the right calls are made. If the right calls are made, then the score would much closer.

More likely we would have that penalty spot scored, lead 1-2 at HT, have a closer game with a tighter defence and not deck the front with more forwards in the second half and then end up either 3-3, or 1-2, or 2-2 or 2-3 at FT.

Incredible season and am gladly still Phoenix till I die. Very unlucky calls made but only one will be left standing... MELBOURNE!!! BEAT SYDNEY HARD!!!

I think teams learn to play in big finals...we looked dreadfully tentative in the first 20 minutes. We just stood and watched them attack. In some ways their goal settled us down a bit. Then we equalised. From than point it was game on. we were keeping possession and building moves nicely.

Then came the handball goal...as the commentators said its tough to come back against a good side like Sydney once...but to have to do it twice is probably too much for most teams. I am not saying we would have won but the handball and them taking the lead was pivotal in how the game progressed. From that point we had to push again. At 1-1- you can play a different game with less risks. Half time the possession was only 53 47 to Sydney. If we had gone in at hlf time 1-1 then Ricki could have got into the boys.

I am not blaming the handball for our loss but you cannot argue that it did not change the game.

It was deliberate cheating..as Bossa said at half time...deliberate cheating. I'm gutted for the boys to concede a cheating goal. I hope that that C**t gets as much flack as Henry got for his.

Apart from that I salute the team...fantastic year...fantastic football. Thanks Phoenix you have been a joy to watch and support. We will come back next year better and stronger.

Big up's to the NIX. Great season even though we played like crap tonight. And yes Payne you cheating bastard. You have to be angry with that, but then again that's just football.

To be honest with all of you. A Melbourne v Sydney grand final bores the crap out of me.
