I wonder if Ricki will bring a couple players in from the cold?? After two complete shockers ( i missed this game bar for radio coverage for the 2nd half) people should be getting dropped.

Brin in Mulligan and Costa with Rojas on the bench. Youth and enthusiasm from two of htem, and one hell of a point to prove from the other.

Yeah lets advocate a radical change in bringing in players out from the cold while we are chasing the playoffs....

The best players are for the most part, been in the match day squad for the last couple of weeks. Mulligan and Rojas do not fit that bill and now is certainly not the time for that.

Grumpy old bastard alert

I was wondering that while watching the game - is it just coincedence that the clubs from the biggest cities (SFC and Melbourne) or with the most 'money' (GCU) seem to be light years ahead of everyone else even with the salary cap?

It makes you think what these three clubs are doing better than the other 7.

Pretty ordinary night there I have to say. Yep, 20/20 hindsight and all that but I can tell you my heart sank when I saw three lined up across the back. We had some good moments in the 1st half but really we were restricted to a lot of long shots which is indicative of a team struggling to break down a defence.

The only bright spots were a couple of decent YF chants ("You should be at the tennis!" and "A dingo ate your baby!") plus the inflatable sheep. Was a bit demoralised by the sight of Nix players arguing and waving their hands at each other but there you are, that's what happens when your form goes out the window. I hope we can kick on from here.

We weren't asking much of you guys, a draw would have been fine but sh*t, you didn't even keep the goal difference down.

Still, ta for the 6-0 vs the gold twats

I think Ricki was too slow with his substitutions last night, and thought he brought the wrong players off - excepting Sigmund.

Thought Siggie had to come off earlier (in fact I was dissapointed he started), nnot because he played particularly badly but because he's not a natural right back and doesn't offer support in attack that Hearfield does (who I think is a much more effective RB that RM).

He brought on Bertos and Caceras  - 'yes!' I thought - this will give us the width we need. But he took Dadi off so now we can get crosses in, but there's no-one to meet them!

And Barbarouses for Ifill.... yurk!

And I don't think we should be missing Lochy that much - Muscat works reasonably well as a LB. But his abscence seems to have made Ricki change what I think is an obvious back four of Hearfield, Durante, McKain and Muscat.

My dearest Nix

This is not an easy letter to write, but I think we need some time apart.  You know how I feel about you, it was love at first sight.  Something happens when we are together but when we are apart it's like you don't love me at all.  l love the way you look, love the way you move and I love to watch you.  Oh, how I love to watch :-).  But all my friends told me I couldn't trust you and they were right.

Every time you go away you cheat on me with our Aussie friends.  Some overrated, flash chancer comes along and you just lift your skirt, drop your pants and lie down.  And now it's happened twice in the last week.  Well, we can't go on like this.  So I am going away to Christchurch this wekend, alone, to try and make sense of it all and forget about you. Whatever you do, don't try to follow me.  It won't work.  I've succumbed to your promise of a wild weekend away in the past and you've let me down.

You always promise me it will be different next time but it never is and you just go back to your bad old ways.  Perhaps in a little while things will be different.  I can imagine a time, perhaps in August, when we are both at a loose end and you will flatter your eyelashes at me like you always do and I will come running once more.  But for now I hurt too much to contemplate that.
Farewell my love

Outnumbered in the midfield, especially through the middle. Their midfielders shifted to close down our play down the wing and made it hard for us to switch play. Too much space in the middle of the park for Angulo and Hernandez to pick passes and with the pace of Thompson and Kruse we got caught out. Perhaps in hindsight Ricki would have gone with 3 central midfielders.

Hopefully we can move on from this and don't let it affect us.

so frustrating watching our guys with the ball - you can see a good early pass on but they want to try and beat some-one - lose the ball and Melb put t to goo use..... aarghh... make the ball do the work - stop trying to dribble through the other teams (goes to most most players inc Ifill)

My judgement is still out on Dadi - yes he scored 3 goals early on but really prances about and did not really see him act as target man, receiving ball and distributing...mind you strugle to pas it to him anyway.

Was looking froward to Greenie and Dadi up front, shame our midfield was playing on another pitch.

On the bright side  C Diddy was looking splendid on the sidelines chanting away (before everything went quiet).  Notably it took all my 46inch widescreen TV to fit him in and the hi def really did show all his flaws.

A few points:

Playing with a fricking kangaroo on our tops sounds like a nefarious aussie scheme to screw us over.

Not that it would have made a difference but anyone else think their third goal was offside? The dude who made the run down the right (Kruse?) was just in our half when he received the through ball...none of our guys were. Not a peep from the commentators about it of course.

The oz commentators sure love Melbourne, and our convict cousins accuse ours of overt bias?

Kevin Muscat = t**ser.

So depressing, oh well good on the positive dude a few posts back, thanks mate made me feel a lot better

I would like to know what happened at half time...what was said? what was the tactical change?

Coz at half time we were well in there. wE conceded an unlucky goal but had lots of shots ourselves. Brown went close twice and Ifill had one saved and blazed two over the bar. The possesion was close to even and we were not being overrun.

Then the second half....what a disaster. We fell apart in midfield. We stopped close marking Hernandez and they tore us up. Melbourne are a very very good side...if you let them play. But they are not a 4 goal better side than us.

This has probably been said before but whenever you watch the Phoenix compared to other teams, the ballcarrier is always isolated, especially in midfield and hardly ever given an option of an easy pass. They are always expected to beat the player and get a cross in. This happened more so in the 2nd half last night and we constantly lost possession.
This isn't rocket science but it annoys me when we get the ball and everyone else runs away from the ballcarrier.
I reckon the standard of passing and build up play in the NZFC is better than what the Nix come up with.

I reckon you haven't watched much NZFC then. Check any of the 8 sans Manawatu and Auckland.. Simply horrible football. You'd see more hoofs than a Taranaki dairy farm or a Manawatu university bar.
