3 points. Ballsy. I expect a flurry of fury from those fans. Should be entertaining.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

The suspended punishment puts the onus right back on the fans and supporters groups to cut out the "anti-social behaiour" during the rest of the season. Masterstroke from Gallop.

Could not have summed it up better. You could make a good CEO Patrick.
Agree with Smithy that we are about to get more lols from their complaints.

I do like that the FFA condemned the ridiculous "it was them" statements that were released by both clubs after the incidents.

Thanks.
Weird (for both).  Imagine what a drum or kazoo would elicit then?

This season we've had Red Badge come up to our aisle several times throughout each match.  They seem to be wanting to be much more visible this season - clearly worried we will go all RBB on them.

Gallop has the experience of fighting fires when he was involved with league, this seems like a good response.

A cynic would say this is FFA's way of appearing to be doing something about this while not really doing anything at all.

Their forum has gone nuclear mushroom cloud. It's the FFA/Victorian police/rival fans/ground security/someone else's fault but certainly not theirs.

Perhaps, but the next time they fuck up, Gallop gets the satisfaction of saying 'we gave you a chance, you fucked it up, we told you so'

If Gallop really wanted to hurt them, he'd have fined them and taken points straight away, with an additional bond for good behaviour. This way they seem to be taking stern action while they're not really, and next time something like this you bet your bottom dollar FFA will find a way out so as not to enforce it (unless it's really, really bad, but in that case this kind of punishment would probably be completely inappropriate).
Age old trick.

No cynicism required. that's exactly what they have done. mainly to placate both sets of fans. Next up, bucket full of water and dry bus ticket. If it were Nix fans we'd have been docked 10 points. I'm glad that our lot, especially the aussie based ones are more mature about things and don't drop to this level. Sure we still have a few idiots but they just get drunk and annoy, no fights etc from what I have seen.

Dont under estimate Gallop,he handled him self pretty well through a number of cluster fucks at the NRL,and didnt seem afraid of playing the hard hand if it needed that.

Its an area they are going to have to  be very careful in handling as i can see some buggars trying it to cause trouble while hiding behind another clubs colors..

I'm with Patrick on this, I think Gallop has got this bang on. His experience in the NRL will be a real asset in how he deals with this.

I also think that he is unlikely to get as much pushback with this as he did say with the Salary Cap thing at the Storm. In that case, plenty of people wanted to blame the NRL instead of the Storm as they saw it as a manifestation of a ridiculous system (i'm thinking all those Gould pieces in the immediate aftermath) where here I think the entire game and media pack will be behind the FFA in wanting to cut this shit out.

A surreal element is introduced by the fact that the FFA own Western Sydney Wanderers.

As one Western Sydney supporter points out:

"I think it should be a fine but as the FFA owns us they can't fine themselves and want to put out an strong message."

Very true but you also need to keep in mind that while the FFA still technically own the Wandertards, meaning that any potential buyers and sponsors of the franchise will be watching this with very keen interest.

The reaction of the FFA does a couple of things here. Firstly it doesn't immediately harm the on field prospects of the club meaning that if the Wandertards miss out on ACL qualification it is not related to a deduction in points and secondly it still sends out a message to prospective new owners and the A-League as a whole that poor crowd behaviour is not going to be tolerated!

So, in my opinion, it isn't that they won't fine themselves because they can't but more that if they do that it have a massive impact on their ability to sell the franchise.

The reaction on various forums from many people is just bloody ridiculous, fortunately there are also many  who seem to have had enough of the lunatic element. Maybe this is the shot across the bows that is needed to finally get something done about them.

I agree with Ballane on this. From a disciplinary point of view, a threat of points deduction can be a much more potent tool of maintaining peace than the actual points deduction (which would only escalate things probably, with the morons blaming the other club and so on).

After the previous CEO (Ben whatshisname) who was of AFL background, I was a bit worried if Gallop would be any better. So far I am quietly impressed. He does not seem to take any nonsense when it comes to dealing with the mad and the bad.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

The thing is with all these solutions is....will the looney element whom get off on this sort of moronic behaviour take any notice or will it be business as usual?

Haha once again the Herald Sun is weighing in with some epic LOLS!

The use of the term "Cheer Squad", which is the name given to "active" AFL supporters gives you an idea of how seriously to take this article.

My favourite paragraph:

"Approximately 100 Heart supporters moved to the northern end of the ground and started to bait the opposition. This tactic was successful. For a few minutes it was chaotic as the crowd was becoming very hostile towards each other."

These few sentences to me sum up the Herald Sun and their Football coverage. To me and probably most people on this forum, that would read that a set of fans moved to the opposite side of the ground and began chanting at the opposition although I suspect the Herald Sun are trying to make something out of nothing. For me they need to define what they perceive to be "Hostile" before I actually believe that anything serious occured at that fixture.

Wasn't that the game where one of the Heart supporters waded into the Away bay and king-hit a WSW supporter?

Edit: Yes, yes it was. Don't know why the Herald Sun didn't point that out.
