not sure about Clebo at Lb -though I'd like to see him on the pitch again, i think he lacks the mobility and balance to be a fullback

Daniel would do ok, i reckon, and regarding the criticisms of him in the air, i think it's true that he's the only one in the side apart from Smeltz to have scored with his head this season, and whilst it was a looping header his jump was well timed

have Lia or Old got a left foot than they can use for more than just standing on?

You referring to the Felipe header? Cant remember a Daniel header.

Don't necessarily need a left foot to play LB. If ya can pass with it, thats good enough.

So with no Paston, Lochhead, Christie, Smeltz and Brown (international duty) and maybe Aloisi (suspension), and Lia injured, we're at the limits of our squad to even have 15 for Newcastle?  If Felipe can't play with his hamstring I presume our 15 will have to be:

Moss, O'Dor, Old, Cleberson, Dodd, Ferrante, Johnson, Daniel, Elrich, Coveny, Paladini with substitutes of Draper, Spoonley, Brownlie and Barbarouses.

A real test of our depth.

That's 3 strikers on the bench...

Well to balance up the team I'm prepared to sign a short term deal as left back cover.  I last played about 15 years ago for a Wellington Olympic social team but have looked after myself so the team will now be:

Moss, Cantona forever, O'Dor, Dodd, Old, Daniel, Johnson, Ferrante, Elrich, Coveny, Brownlie with substitutes of Spoonley, Lonegunman, Hard News, and Paladini

Couple of the subs in there for when Griffiths goes crazy with a blade!

Hell no, I'm garbage.

Incidentally, I reckon you'd see two strikers and Clebo on the bench in that 15.

How's my driving? - Whine here

I wasn't very flash either - maybe we could both get contracts for the Glory then?  Love to hear if Lonegunman is up for a subs position - probably not with us today since QPR got their first win of the season!!

Daniel scored the first goal of the season with his head.  He is good in the air, the only reason he doesn't score more with his head is because he takes most of the corners and is the second option for free kicks.  He is also on the ball quite a lot, so is more likely to make a cross than be on the end of one.

if Aloisi is suspended and Brown is with the All whites who will wear the armband

Dodd is the obvious choice.  Although Moss, Johnson and Coveny are all reasonable options.

First game vs Melbourne? (the Nix's first goal ever)

It's 6pm NZ time - we are three hours ahead of Newcastle at the moment (daylight savings and all that)

In the first game of pre-season (when Aloisi was suspended and Brown was injured) Covs was skipper.  Agree that Dodd and Johnson are options too - Dodd is the only one of those three who you can guarantee will get 90 minutes to be honest...

A-League website and Newcastle Jets website both say 3pm kickoff (which is 6pm NZ time)...

...but the programme guide on the SKY TV website says 4pm start...

I'd imagine it's 6pm and SKY have made a typo.

I just went to double check on Sky and they are saying 4-6pm. Now I'm confused.

For New South Wales -- ie Sidknee and newcasill

Daylight saving starts on Sunday 28 October 2007 at 2 am when clocks are put forward one hour.

We are currently 3 hours ahead of them, so 6 pm kickoff here for sure

I miss Clebo!.....It's a pity for him (not the 'Nix) that Dodd and O'Dor have been a good partnership...2nd half of Melbourne game he was great, then had a dodgy game against CCMs and then went missing...?! Could be time to go full Brazilian (not a painful hair removal procedure!); Clebo(LB)-Daniel(LMID)-Felipe(MID)-George(RMID)

Cleberson deserves a second chance, but maybe he isn't doing well with tactics in training.

I think that if Spoonley was brazilian, people would be suggesting that we start him either left back or up front.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

lol anyway, as has been stated before, all 4 Brazilians on at once cannot happen, as only 3 are allowed in the game squad. Clebo seems to be the short straw, and though the juries still out on George, we shall see when he hopefully gets a start and some decent ball to show us what he's made of

Would we all agree that imports are normally your best and generally highest paid players? So why would there be a rule that says you can`t play one of them? I believe this is not the rule. If it is the rule, that is stupid.

It would be a shame to have Daniel playing a defensive roll, even if he was a left back in Brasil. All his best work has been done getting forward, especially down the flanks. 3 of the goals against Perth were laid on by him. OK, one was a corner but we need someone to carve out chances after last week's toothless effort.

Hate to say it but whatever defensive combo is picked there's going to be plenty of heart seizures again this week. Advise deadening your nerves with plenty of lager.

I wonder if Costa or Draper will get a run this weekend? Ideally I would like to see Draper get on for 5 mins at the end of the game. Assuming we are up by 2 at that stage of course. Other than that I think anymore game time for the youngsters this weekend could be costly for the Phoenix.

If we build it, they will come...

Haven't you seen Lochhead this year? He's made plenty of runs down the flanks.

yea that could work, they signed him with attack in mind but hasn't he spent a fair ammount of time at wing back?

apparently he can't tackle for peanuts though. Plus it might be a bit of a waste
