good stuff. toss up between Jono and Brown (though I would be tempted to drop Ross and play both)

Yeah I mean in terms on the 3 holding midfielders, they need to play 2. I'm convinced on that point. I think that the only one that definitely picks himself is Johnson because until he got sent to the bench for what ever reason, he was in form.

In the end, you can argue about Aloisi being the captain and shouldn't be dropped, but yet he is slow (I'm taking political license from other posts) and Brown being injured but being the VC, I look it like this. Aloisi is the captain. The role he plays is not a glamour role. He is experienced at this level and proven. For me that wins through and I don't think he is out of form like others make out to be. He just not one of the 'glory' boys' (excuse the term) that has all the limelight.

Personally I always like the 4-3-3 formation seems to work on FIFA 07 so here it goes
                   Moss
Lochead      Dodd           Odour          Christie

      Elrich        Johnson          Daniel
    Filipe           Smeltz          Brown

Aloisi, Costa Babaros the young dude, and Old

Yeah, 433 on FIFA 07 works so well.

Brave calls but I agree if you play 4-4-2. Though I'd go 3-5-2 as follows:
-------------Moss--------------
-------------Dodd-------
--------O'Dor-----Lochhead
-------------Brown-----------
Elrich----Johnson/Lia----Aloisi-----Daniel
-----Smeltz-----------Felipe-----
Bench: George, Ferrante, Johnson/Lia, Paston

Pasty had his chance and blew it. George has impressed but not enough to start.
Elrich and Daniel will have to work their bollock off but Daniel can and I'd bring Ferrante and Johnson/Lia with 15-20 to got with fresh legs. Ferrante will score eventually, the law of stats states it.

What do people have against Tim Brown?

I haven't got anything against Tim. Thats why I have him starting as the holding midfielder.

Its no longer a problem.

to many holes in the midfield so time for a change 4 - 3 - 2 -1 (assuming everyone available)

christie / dodd / clebs / lochead

brown / aloisi / johnston

elrich / felipe

smeltz

not impressed with daniel lately, good on the ball but his passing is poor, need to vary our attack by being a bit more direct at times rather than down the wing and crossing every time

I think we're over complicating the formation, 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-2-2-2....blah, blah, blah

I'd have to say the solution to our problem is straight forward, my formation for the weekend would be:

Moss Christie Dodd O'dor Lochead Brown Elrich Daniel Felipe Coveny

                                                  Smeltz

I think giving Smeltz the license to roam would be very advantageous in this ground breaking 10-1 formation.

Ah the flat back 9.

Genius.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Good idea maybe not the flat back nine bit. But one player to be up front and just go themselves, run at the goal and try to score. It may start to pull wings into the middle to defend leaving the thing we all love to see on the field.... space out wide.

oh yeah then score goals and win the game.

maybe not against Perth, but it's a good idea against Queensland...bring on the hideously ugly 0-0 1 point!

I'm sorry if you misunderstood my post, I was actually suggesting that the 10 just line up on the goal line and that Smeltz plays primarliy a defensive midfield sweeping wide attacking role looking to use his pace out wide to strike straight down the middle.  Obviously given such a limited role fitness shouldn't be a problem......

we can't lose playing that formation! drawing 0 -0 for the rest of the season shoudl see us into the top half of the comp! Would take it into penalty shoot outs in the finals though and we may be stuffed there!

We'll be fine in a penalty shoot out, after all we have "the best keeper in the league" apparantly.,......

You crazy young kids and your rock music!

For a defensive team, with some credibility in football terms, how about

                        Moss Paston

Christie   O'Dor Dodd Cleberson    Lochead

                Aloisi Brown Johnson

                        Smeltz

Yes, the old two keeper trick!

That sure would help in the "should I come for that cross or stay on my line" scenario and will make the Pens in the latter stages of the competition more manageable.  Does anyone have a direct line into RH, he may not be as cutting edge in his thinking as we are......

Clebo is still in NZ and injured, so you'd need O'Dor.

I did like someones idea of Ross sweeping if we were determined to play with a Sweeper.

I have to disagree. I'd rather see Tim Brown sweep if anyone. Ross is too prone to rash challanges.

Its no longer a problem.

How about we split the difference and say Johnson .

I'm not convinced about such a big overhaul, what I would do if I wanted a defensive solidity is play the first choice back 4 (plodder, Dodd, O'Dor, Lochy) but play the three defensively minded midfielders (Brown, Aloisi and Johnson).

I was hugely suprised last week after Ricki spoke of wanting a defensive mindset and a clean sheet that he changed keeper and then started only one of those three, with an in-experienced defensive pair.

In Summary - last week I would have played/expected.

----------------Moss
Plodder - O'Dor - Old - Lochhead
----- Brown - Aloisi - Johnson
---------- Elrich - Daniel
-------------- Smeltz

With Felipe off the bench after a few weeks out.

This week is now trickier because of last weeks result but I suspect we should start like that to try and ensure some security, perhaps with Felipe starting ahead of Daniel.  If we get through the first 45 looking solid, find a way to make a change that gets Daniel on instead of one of the more defensive Midfielders.

It's pretty conservative, but we need to get confidence back and then start going on the front foot when we get home, particularly as Perth look a much better side these days.

So this week (to start):
----------------Moss
Plodder - O'Dor - Dodd - Lochhead
----- Brown - Aloisi - Johnson
---------- Elrich - Felipe
-------------- Smeltz

I like it, the xmas tree shape works for Milan so why not for us. We are playing away from home against an improving side, you shouldn't play 5 attacking players with the amount of ball that we give away!!

Anyone with any faith and self belief in their own  ability as a football player  will do for me ,it will be  about attitude as much as its about formation this week i mean how many times do you keep shuffling the same pack of cards? we really must take the game to Perth as they  are the worst  side in the league,i just hope Aloisi gets the finger out and starts to take command of the team especially the defence after all thats what he is paid for !

Drop Daniel for Aloise. Daniel is the most overrated member of the Nix team - he keeps on losing the ball and despite looking good at times and being busy has acheived nothing on the feild apart from milking a penalty.

wake up sunshine

you obviously weren't a Phoenix fan when he scored a brilliant goal v Melb, or in the games up to and including Perth were he and lochead terrorised the opposition down the left, or when he whipped in corner for Ross to score, or when he headed in v melb at home

your analysis is sadly lacking in perspective

Subs: Barborouses (want to see him get game time), Felipe, Old, Ferrante.

I know many people will disagree with Brownlie, but I think he and Smeltz could do well together. I was impressed by Brownlie when he came on for us in our first game against Melbourne.
