The A-League Season...

I want to be pleasantly surprised but another season of abject disappointment will hurt too much so I'm setting the goal low.  That way even 6th will feel like we've won the A-League.

Yeah i see where your coming from. After last seasons blunder i think theres only one way we can go...and with all the hype im sure players and supporters alike will get together to put in a worthy effort, 6th and above is a great place to start.

Yeah some good signing MF but you still need to replace Fred - he made Archie and Donkey Allsopp look good

7th for the pheonix - you have only made like a couple good signings, dont get ahead of yourselves. the rest of your sighnings are a-league rejects. 7th.

double for melbourne

Mate, it's hard to see Melbourne dropping the 2007/2008 season..so I guess you guys are the 'team to beat'

Nix, I'd say will finish 5-8 - mid table respectability for the first season...

Before Allsopp came home wasn't he bangin them in for Notts Co? Man City - mate I'dlook good playing for them. Also Archie didn't have a great time in Holland from what I recall.

I rather Archie neday over Allsop. No doubt Allsop is pretty good but i prefer a quik out and out striker rather then Allsop up front.

Yeah well we can say Fred did make a big impact on the team and with him gone its not going to be an easy run.

Yeah he was banging them in for us, hes a bloody legend! We shouldve gone up with him and Mark Stallard, best strike force in the league! Shame about the rest of the team, and the coach.

See where you're coming from but strikers are only as good as their service.

Gah, I wrote a longer post but your server shat itself.

Basically I said that, it all depends on crowds.  You need attendances for motivation & to avoid division/conflict.

I'm going to hazard that WPFC will finish 5th or 6th, ahead of Queensland, Perth and maybe Newcastle.

aloisi came out on tv recently and said that he and the other players basically knew who was coming but herbet decided to release the signings like 3 every week.

Yeah, I saw that on THe World Game, SBS....I think I mentioned it on another thread but yeah..I was worried before that they would just be rushing around trying to look for players but when Ross Said that..(accidentally I think)...I think Herbet and Terry ave got things covered.

greeting everyone,
this is my first time on Yellow Fever and I gotta say that this website really rocks.

Now, I have a couple of questions.
I am an International student and I don't follow (or I should say I didn't use to follow) the A-League with great enthusiasm..until now

Living in Welly, I definitely wanna go to the Stadium and enjoy some great footbal..

Back to business:

1) when does next season start?

2) will there be season-pass's for fans to buy (that's what we usually do in Europe)

thank you

El Ser

1, Season starts: August 26th. (Pre-Season cup starts mid-July - I really should find the draw for that).

2, Yes.  No news yet on how much or when the season passes will be available but they will definitely be available.

Keep an eye here for the news.  We'll have it as soon as anywhere.

Surley, they wouldnt leave things last minute. They want the team together as soon as possible so they can work on other things.

oh great to know as I really want a season pass. That's one of the things I miss the most of my country.

By the way, what time does the A-Leauge usually play? And is it on a Sunday?

thanks again

Just a note on Sydney and Adelaide in the AFC...I think they are doing a fantastic job at promoting the quality of the A-league...Some of the teams that they ave come up against have players that if all the Sydney or Adelaide  players salaries are put together would equal or be less than that one players..And Yet both teams are running riot, totally destroying defenses and killing attacks..If it had not been for injuries in both teams and the lack of match fitness I reckon they would ave both been on top of their group stages easily.

yeah i rekon that if adelaide had all their new signings playing eg. agostino an sarkies and same with sydney possibly cocu or someone else good trhan both of hte teams would be progressing i think by seeing this it gives the a league belief that we can compeat with the top leagues of  asia.

Yeah its interesting watching the AFC, theyre making a name for themselves and looking good. Do think they could of done a bitter better earlier on if they had their sh*te together tho.

Too bad even if we win the ALeague we cant play in that, dam those asians.

NEW ZEALAND HURRY UP AND JOIN ASIA
Permalink Permalink
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
That can never happen....But maybe later on The New Zealand club can ask to be let into the AFC becoz they are part of an Australia competition..It would help to if The Phoenix had money and can make a " Donation " to the AFC.

Hellz yeah, if we make it on the Map with our football then maybe well start getting noticed and invited to tournaments. NZ football should be on a rise.

Erm, yes it can happen. Oceania will eventually be engulfed by Asia, 'cause Oceania is a bit of a joke anyway

Bring on that day! NZ need to get into Asia so we can have some meaningful international matches.

I thought I read somewhere once that NZS (sorry...FNZ) were thinking of making it that NZFC champions had to play Phoenix to see who goes to WCC.

Or maybe it was just me thinking it would be a good idea??
Anyway, it would be a good idea.

Another obvious problem with these ideas ?  In the Asian Champions League you are allowed 3 foreign players.  As we're going to have around 10 kiwi's and/or 10 Aussies we would have to recruit half a squad to enter...

...let's just wait for Stu Jacobs and the new Team Welly to get there.

3 Foreigners, dam thats strict. Well im not seeing us entering the AFC anytime soon so mayb in 5-10 years when NZ talent is half decent then we can look for entry.

thats crap

Just to clarify HN - the 3 foreigner rule - if NZ became part of Asia would other Asians - say Japanese - count as imports or would they, because they're from the same confederation, be exempt?
