Wellington Pheonix are about to conclude the signing of Hadjuik Split Brazilian midfielder Felipe Souza Campos. Campos is a classical number 10 midfielder. Campos is being introduced to the Pheonix by their Australain scout Tony Rallis who has scouted the player thru former National League player Steve Panopoulos. Panopoulos a former South Melbourne FC midfielder is now a resident of Rio De Janeiro and the person responsible for introducing Australian Player of the Year Fred to Victory last year. Panopoulos has also introduced a number of other players to Rallis for his approval.

Melbourne Victory website has him listed as one of two suggested replacements for Fred as an attacking midfielder.

Has this to say about him:

"Felipe is a skillful, creative midfielder - a true Brazilian playmaker. A great dribbler and passer, he is also capable of shooting powerfully with either foot.

"Has previously enjoyed spells at two of Brazil's biggest clubs, Flamengo and Sao Paulo, as well as Cabofriense."

If Maddaford is right in the Herald, this would seem pretty likely (unless he's getting his stories from 442.

Do we know the length of his contract??

it doesn't sound like juninho paulista.

Herbert says in that article "He has played at the same level as Daniel and is currently at a first division club in Europe."

Well, as good as Daniel sounds, he has never played in the English Premiership, and Juninho was an established national team player. And as far as I'm aware, he's not currently in Europe, as he has been playing back in Brazil.

So I would assume it is another player more in the mould of Daniel than an ex-superstar.

Sawu,

Have a read of the top post... this isn't the Juninho thread

Felipe Souza Campos from Hajduk is the man we are talking about here.

Quote from a Hadjuk fan:

Zero league matches for Hajduk, apparently he is fit and can run a fair bit but other than that, they didn't think too much of him.

So Felipe De Souza Campos Has Officially signed with the nix any thoughts on him or who the next two spots will be filled by. I think one more south american and then leave thethe last spot open so the nix can experiment in the pre season cup.

I haven't read through any of the posts on this thread, but wanted to say it is my favourite method of grooming.

That's what you were talking about, isn't it?

Ah, okay.  Thought I'd missed something.

There are understood to be some contractual complications, so his signing is far from done and dusted.

Meanwhile, Herbert yesterday laughed off speculation from across the ditch that the Phoenix are chasing former star Brazil midfielder Juninho.

"Next thing you know we'll be signing Zico."

As in, Ricki has been offered a tasty right winger, but he might not sign him because he doesn't have the same experience as Daniel or Campos.

Ah ok cool...But he would be cheap though which is good...Quality players for cheap is always good.
