Brown won a lot in the air, but to me that isn't really that impressive, did his headers always find a man, does it allow us to get the ball down on the ground and play... NO.

He is looking to play a smipler passing game i think at the moment which i think is good - he can't do racking cross field passes, or 10 yard through balls, so just get the ball lay off and make people chase you.

Average game, with one quality moment to go with his shocker earlier in the game.
I take esception with the aerial stuff because he is our only player that really gets up for headers in the middle of the field. Without him, we would have no aerial presence in the middle of the field.

He played ok yesterday and he is not at all like the haters profess.

He had a good game - but that doesn't magically make up for all his poor ones previous.

Hopefully he has more good games - so people won't be calling for him to be dropped. No one sounds/sounded like a Brown hater to me; they simply thought he was playing crap. Which he was.

Needs someone to watch him for an entire game and then give stats back on his performance.  Yes he has won matches but too often Im shouting  at the TV for him to track back or even move towards the ball.

This.

Cue someone to go and find old Confed Cup or World Cup qualifier GPD heatmaps from 4 years ago to prove how much work he does.

Its fine to measure his stats but they need to be measured in objectivity to others. If for example he doesn't track back 5 times in a game, that's probably a big deal. But if 4 others don't track back 10 times, which is worse?

Therein, I beleive lies the problem of peoplse perception of Tims performances. When he is back people want him forward, when forward people want him back. Simply put a Central midfielder can not be everywhere at once.

I would love to see a statistic of the distances he covers during a game, which I think would surprise a number of people. Not only is he up and down the park, is also covering plenty of ground laterally also.

He covers very high up the pitch and chases the ball a lot, not to too much success though. They generally just pass the ball around him, and he continues to chase to no effect. Most of his challenges end up being fouls cause he tackles when the player has already got goal side of him.

I don't think he covers much ground nor does it quickly. He is what he is. A great team man who tries his heart out and pops up with important goals but he simply isn't quick enough. He is not winning any 50-50 balls, even 60-40s are a bit of a stretch. He doesn't get in good positions to receive the ball and thats why the number of touches he gets is so low inspite of playing in the middle. Quick players just glide around him unless he brings them down.

I don't think he played well at all against GC but the goal was great and extremely important. He went OK in the Lia, Muscat, Brown midfield we used last year but his role was quite different, effectively in Sanchezs position although the way he does it is completely different.

A VERY insightful analysis IMO. Well done.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Actually, I'm still a bit hungry Timmy and Friday is Pie Day

THe main problem I have with Browns current positioning is that it is buggering up one of the most exciting players we have recruited for a while. Sanchez is supposedly the central playmaker that we have been looking for. He has shown in flashes all the skills need for that role. Except he is getting dicked around by Rickie's need to play Brown in that forward position.

Sanchez should be the "go to man" for most of the Nix attacking...thats what a playmakers meant to do. Herbert however is unable to settle on what Sanchez is meant  to do and its becoming clear, especially in the last two games that Sanchez is confused as well. Brown needs to get out of Sanchez's zone.....he's playing way too high. He lacks the speed of thought ,and passing ability to play in that part of the field. Fine for him to make late runs into the box to try and score but he should be back in DM for me.

If Rickie wants to see how to use a playmaker he should watch how Heart have been using Fred. IMO opinion the best half of football we have played this season was second half away against Perth. No Brown, no Lia.

Yes, welcome.

Now - what colour clothes will you be wearing to the 29 Jan game against Heart?

4. sl*gging players off. The forums are not a place for sl*gging players, fans, or officials off without a defence of your position (Jag you pedantic Scots git). Eh? WTF????

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Tim Brown is not a poor player. He is not currently in great form but he still has scored some spectacular and important goals this season. He is however IMO playing currently playing in a position that does not suit his set of skills.....and for that the coach should take some of the blame.

There is a big difference between criticising a poorly performing player and indulging in some sort of vitriolic witch hunt........some people have crossed that line.

Or maybe the fact that he's 3rd highest goal scorer for the club.
Not saying he's the greatest player ever, but he's been with the club from day 1, plays his heart out, and for me the constant bagging of him is getting a bit old.

Not if it is high and mighty and stupid.

And if you take offence or are insulted don't be a cry baby either.

But being sarcastic is OK.

Okay he has the heart the size of a lion but realistically he shouldn't have a spot in the middle of the park when against Newcastle Jets at the cake tin 5-2 game it took him over 50 minutes before he won a tackle and at professional level it is not really good enough.

I just think it is time the Phoenix had a re jig rather than Ricki playing his 'boys' like Brown , Lochhead etc

He has hardly let us down and the times he has been out injured in the years has coincidentally been we played poor.

New Zealand Football is not who you know, its who you blow. Ricky needs to stop playing his favorites and give youngsters a go such as Lindsay. Obviously if they're not up to the standard go back to the original line up
