He should go out on loan to a lower league club.

Full 90 this morning in a 2-1 come from behind win.

After an even first half in which Gozie Ugwu saw a header cleared off the line for Reading and Tim Payne saw his header brilliantly saved by Jonathan Henly for Rovers, it was the second half that would see the goals.

It was a lively start from the visitors, showing good control when in possession but slowly Rovers came back into the game. A Raheem Hanley cross from the left was just ahead of striker Jordan Preston, before Tim Payne fired over with a shot that was always rising.

Rovers responded with a great chance of their own on 29, Bradley Bauress doing well down the left flank to send over an inviting cross, Tim Payne heads the ball powerfully down but Jonathan Henly in the Reading goal pulls off a superb one handed save.

Payne appeals as a good foil for McGlinchey. He has always been a player mature beyond his years and has stepped up to every new level he has faced. He is physically strong, solid in the tackle and has a good touch. The 19-year-old is inexperienced (seven caps) but the daily grind at Blackburn (Payne has been at Ewood Park since early last year) where he usually turns out for the reserves, would have been invaluable. He would also have the ability to link with the attacking players during the rare forays forward that New Zealand will be able to make in the away leg.

90 mins for the u21's again, I think he is slotting in behind the strikers from the squad list but not 100% sure on that.

Apparently Tim is trialling with Toronto (Ryan Nelsen thread).

I hope he's successful, especially if he can get regular game time.

Osorio & Bradley are the first choice centre mids but Bradley will be away for the WC, so they will be needed some depth whilst he is away. Good chance to establish himself at a decent level. Hope he does get picked up, even tho I would like him in a  Nix shirt.

Makes sense. Tim Payne would have been there at Blackburn with Ryan Nelsen who obviously rates him.

Nelsen got him the trial, after Hay recommended him & had him stay with him for little bit.

This is good for Tim. Hopefully gets him playing first team or a bit of first team football and out of reserve hell. If he settled there permanently, even better.

What's the scouting report on this kid? If he can play half decent as a DM, he may get some mins, esp during WC time.

Still on trial at TFC, which I suppose is a good sign that Nelsen doesn't think him as crap

His latest tweet is geo tagged back in the UK.

I really hope we are looking at him

Hopefully he is just back in the UK to formalise a loan deal. If TFC doesnt want him, I would love to see him in a Nix shirt.

Back in the UK according to a tweet from Howieson - the two hanging out together - so has he actually been released o not?

Not officially but it looks like he will be when his contract finishes this season.

He's been cut?

From the tone of his twitter account, I think so but nothing official yet. Nothing from TFC about signing him either.

You would suspect he would head home. He has more of a chance of signing here and playing good minutes in a decent league you would suspect (where he is also well known) than trying his chances in the lower levels in England where he will be 'just another youth footballer off contract'

But in reality it's pretty hard for players to let go of the UK/Euro dream, and they generally have a good crack at it before they give in.

Fuck this stupid game

Yeah, hard to leave all your mates & girlfriend to come back home to start again.

Yes it is. I completely agree with that sentiment. The otherside of it is that you could potentially turn into a Rory Fallon type player and bounce around everywhere/anywhere getting a gig or come back to a place where you would probably have a solid gig for 10 years.

There is hardly more security in a gig at the Nix - just ask Cameron Lindsay.

Are you actually comparing Cameron Lindsay as a footballer to Tim Payne?

He's comparing the scenario. Same thing happened with Cameron Lindsay.

Right. So by the same token, Tim Payne, a far better footballer than Cameron Lindsay will ever be, will have the same thing happen to him? Unlikely.

Nothing wrong with Fallon's career in the UK. Better then most kiwis and if Payne is good enough to play for similar clubs, then from an all whites prospective I would be happy. I don't know however if he really is at that evel, time will tell

Auckland will rise once more
