Todays match clashed with the Warriors playoff as well - pity about the scheduling.
Our last two matches have been rubbish, the Lions are on a run, marketing is virtually nil compared to last year yet the crowd was 900 bigger than last time......Meh
The fact weather was completely crap against Melbourne kept numbers down needs to be considered.

6000-ish on a crap night when hopes were high, vs 6900 on a sunny day after the Adelaide debacle. Wonder what it could have been had results been better...

so all of a sudden costa is going to be the saviour of the phoenix ?? were one win off 4th place ffs!

Yes, but given that 4 teams out of 8 get to the playoffs, we're going to be one or two wins away from a playoff spot all season.

Having said that, I'm inclined to agree with Fred Woodcock in the Dom, it was an improvement on the last few games, we kept a clean sheet, and we finally took a point off CCM. Far from perfect, but it's a start. More patience is needed.

The only thing frustrating me is that we seem to have gone backwards from pre-season, but perhaps the other teams didn't take it as seriously while the Nix tried to make a point?

also the Nix have taken to warming down this year - so i dont blame people for not wanting to wait for 20min.

This is a big factor IMO. I'll admit it, I used to stay in the zone to cheer the lads off all of last season, but don't do it anymore because of the warm-downs.

I'm kind of wondering whether I should be upset by those, I mean people want to cheer the team off the field, but we're not anyone's lackeys to wait around for 15-20 minutes after the game's done to do it. I mean, if they really want to do their warm-downs straight after the game, why not just acknowledge the crowd (and not just the zone) before starting the warm-downs? How hard is that? I don't know, I'm starting to feel a bit more than just meh about all this...

That's how they do that in Korea - teams go and acknowledge their home/travelling fans, then get on with warm downs. The fans pack up their banners etc, then go outside to cheer the team again as they get on the team bus.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Yellow Fever isn't to blame for low attendance, most of us are there win or loss. The problem is the lack of interest from the general punter - especially with the honeymoon period over.

Total attendance = Yellow Fever (mostly stable, static quantity) + general sports fan (mostly unstable, dynamic quantity). We need to raise the second, not worry about the first. Which means the club needs to provide incentive for others to come along - be that on-field results, or even off-field promotions such as "kids get in free".

...preferably on-field results

was always gonna be 0-0 with Jono and Dodd in the middle. Get Gao more time. I like Hearfield, dont like Mulligan at the mo - get Sigi in there. Covs needs to stay onside.

Was that you a couple of rows behind me who started hooked on durante, high on ferrante?

Im going to be there no matter what. I love The Nix even though there last and playing average. I get Phoenix fever about two days out and always end up putting Phoenix/Phoenix  on at the TAB.

Im not going to wash my Yellow Fever tee until we get back to back wins! (I would want to be very careful around pies and/or sauce)

Really looking forward to the Friday & Saturday night games in Nov/Dec. Get on the diesel and let rip!

well well well.......it did'nt take long for the wheels to fall off!!!!

this is the realitiy of supporting a professional sporting team. For every Man U in the world there are hundreds of broken arse stuggling teams with their loyal band of supporters.

The reality is that in NZ the sporting public is fickle.....they will follow whats trendy and who is winning. If the Phoenix start wining people will come..simple as that. There are probably only 4000 to 5000 max dihards who will follow the Phoenix no matter what.

The problem for the club and for football in NZ is the FFA will not be happy at all with sub 10000 crowds, especially with so much compitition for A-League spots. Also last season Tony P said the breakeven point for the club was about 8500 per match.

So what we have is a club making a loss every week. Terry is rich but he is not stupid...he won't keep backing a financial dog. So my advice to football fans....make the most of the Phoenix while they are here. there is no gaurantee they will be here in a couple of years time.

Everyone wants some quality DM's......whats Vuchilichs number....and a marque for Elliot perhaps?

"The wheels falling off" coment is my reaction to the OVER reaction of many in he forums on this site. Sure the start has not been flash. But there are 3 months of football still to play.

What happens if the Phoenix win the next three matches....we will be sitting nicely in mid table. People have over reacted. Partly because of over expectations.

This club will survive....it will have good spell and crap spells, thats football. For some to say they will never watch the Phoenix again.....get a grip. Make your judgement at the end of the season. In the mean time get your ass along to the ROF and support the lads. That is the biggest contribution you can make to support football in NZ. Show your support through thick and thin. Otherwise there will not be a pro team in NZ to support

Agreed.
Elliot has what none of the other centre-midfield options have: an excellent passing game

It is not just about passing, our movement has been lacking, throw ins are an example of that

Elliot would be a backward step at 34 years of age

He might be 34 but he is still a hell of a lot better than Dodd, Johnson and Ferrante. One of the midfield must be able to receive the ball and pass, preferably forward occasionally. Elliot can do it and have not seen it from the nix midfield this year.

We signed Coveny at 36 and Johnson at 32 (I think?). So I don't think age will come into it.

Muscat did pretty decent at 33-34. He's falling off now though. Tiatto aint bad either.. (35)

Both dirty c**ts but good players most of the time and important parts of both QLD and Melbourne. If you're good enough you're young enough.
