We need Brown back people dont seem to like him but he has heart and can be very good on his day as he showed at Newcastle. Mulligan will come good and we need his set pieces, also has a little bit of pace. Costa needs to get played what else can ricki do hes got talent hes got pace and on the right he will rip up. Bertos has been sh*t and while Hearfield has been our best player we cant leave out Gao and his skill. Covs has been good but do we really need him when we have Smeltz ?

                           Moss
Mulligan   Mckain  Durante   Lochead
               Brown
                           Ferrante
Costa                                       Gao
                          Daniel
                          Smeltz

Bench:
Paston
Dodd
Bertos
Hearfield

Even though there will have been a 2 week break between games, RH will have had little time with the Nix as he is away until next Thurs with the AWs.

Hi People,

I'm a NIX fan from Sydney and am trying to work out the best (cost effective way) to get from Rotorua to Wellington for the CCM game... Can anyone please advise if what plane, train or bus options there are?

Thanks,
AT

Bus would be cheapest I'd say: http://www.intercity.co.nz/

I certainly wouldn't consider that the 'best' method though, I'd much rather fly: check www.airnz.co.nzArsenal2008-09-03 15:52:47

I like it, although not sure if I'd put hearfield there ahead of bertos, Costa could do the job as well

"We're going to stick with that [4 4 2], no matter what, for the next four or five weeks and see how that goes, because I think when you tinker with the formation a lot of players don't really know where they're going or what they're doing."

quote from Durante in Stuff.co.nz today - i think this makes sense
I like tautologies because I like them.

Good to hear we are sticking with a formation for awhile.
Watching the replay for the first time yesterday I'm not as depressed as I was about last week now.  Though I think Johnson, Kwasnik and Hearfield had absolute shockers.  All 3 for given the ball away, Hearfield and Johnson with their stupid shot selections and dreadful passes and Kwasnik for just not giving a sh*t.

But the 2/3 positional lapses by Mulligan should be forgiven since it was his first game for us, though he should be fined if he tries to make long passes next game but he does have a nice slide tackle.  Lochy can't always be expected to play brillantly and Gao worked a lot harder than I thought he had.

By the time Doddy come on (20 to go?) I was already in a state of manic despression so I concentrated only on his back heel that went straight out.  But he in fact played a blinder and played within his abilities, except one long pass upfield and to his right which he should ban from his game.

So hopefully with; Daniel in a more central position and Gao on the field at the same time, Leo free to run and run, Ferrante to scavenge, Doddy to get in the opposition's way, our defence better related with each other, Smeltzy back to full health and maybe Costa will be given a chance, I'm now back to being an optimistic Phoenix fan and can't wait for the game Sunday week.

I'd check Nakedbus first for bus trips, much cheaper but smaller range of options.

For flights, Houseoftravel.co.nz lets you search all three airlines for the cheapest fare.

If you book exactly the right day in advance (is it still 6 weeks?) Naked bus has $1 (+ 70 cents booking fee) anywhere around each island (eg. Auckland to Wellington, Christchurch to piction)

Nice find on Naked Bus.

But he's flying from Rotorua and only AirNZ fly there.

well now that we know we'll probably be playing 4-4-2, here's how I'd line up:

                              Moss

 Mulligan      McKain       Durante        Lochhead

   Bertos        Brown      Daniel        Gao

                      Smeltz   Coveny

Paston
Dodd
Hearfield
Kwasnik

give Moss a run up front and Smeltz a spot alongside McKain...  in goal Michael Ferrrrrrante.

Well it's different....
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

As much as I love Gao and think he brings a lot of energy to the pitch, with a yellow card from the last game, is it such a good idea to start him against CCM?  He's been getting quite a few when I've seen him play and I'd hate to see him benched for getting another one.

Also, on a side note, if I'm going to buy a Nix jersey, are they just generic or do they come with player names and numbers on the back?

Generic as you get them, if you want them named and numbered the best bet is to talk to the guys at Champs Sports.

Congratulations to the All Whites on progressing to the next stage of World Cup qualification.

With next week's return match against New Caledonia being a "dead game" as far as WC qualification is concerned how about - in deference to the Phoenix, who pay most of his salary, and the fans who shell out and turn out to support the Phoenix, Ricki;

     - releases the Nix starters from the All Whites squad so they can return to training for next Sunday's game

     - returns himself to the Nix to support his captain in turning around the poor start to the season.

The benefits of doing this;

     - fringe All Whites (including 2nd tier Nix payers) will get to experience international football - in a low pressure situation.

     - the assistant All Whites coach will also get the opportunity for the same experience

     - Herbert will show commitment to the Nix and it's fans and, very importantly, to his captain and the squad members left behind to work on turning things around.

     - we won't have starters for next week's  Nix game who are jaded because they have recently played 2 internationals (one in heat and humidity).

If we are to make the top 4 we will probably have to finish higher than CCM (top 3 looking like Adelaide, Sydney and Victory) so this Sunday is a 6 point game.

If we are to stop the rot we have to start winning.

This week is a bloody important game !!!
